    Trains 21 is a documentary of railroading in the 21st century and a look at the fascinating world of transportation. On this channel we deal with all aspects of trains with a strong focus on the Northeast USA.
    The goal is for you to learn a lot in a short amount of time.. A major infusion of knowledge in just a few minutes.. And if those few minutes distilled some of the best railroad information in the industry, we feel that we've done our job..

    Tribute for SD40-2 Locomotives from India 🇮🇳. These locomotives can never be old. Long live SD40-2s.

    Best and most versatile loco ever built in my opinion. I repaired locomotive electrical systems for 12 years and worked on a lot of models.

    This is the start of a great highlight on the diesel that changed the rules through many of its predecessor units that helped make it possible for the 40-2 to become the icon it is today.

    The D&H livery is beautiful, the cursive lettering on the shield is messy but must be traditional. I appreciate your detailed insights, a lot to take in but I enjoy coming back to listen again.

    I remember the Susie Q era. I live in the Washington DC region and it was pretty cool to see those "Yellow Jackets" and "Lightning Stripes" on a regular basis (not to mention that Conrail was still a thing).
    Nonetheless: long live the SD40 and SD40-2.

    In the mid 80s to the early 90s when on my way into cleveland I'd pass collinwood and get a view of the loeocomotive facilities. It's strange, I kept expecting to see a variety of locomotives but only ever saw the familiar 3 fans on an EMD long hood - 40 series power. It was as if that was the only model they used.. heh. I have seen 38s on that line, mostly around willoughby, but until the dash 8s came along that was about it.

    I do greatly appreciate all the effort you have put in this episode and the next four. I can not wait to watch them. But I would like to pose a guess/question for you and your comments section. What do you think will be the longest lasting EMD product SD40 and iterations, or the GP40 line?

    Excellent video! Glad you brought up BNSF's GP40X (now classified GP25X) and GP50s, there's one of each working the 101 local at Jonesboro, Arkansas, saw both of them this morning as a matter of fact! They also operate a North local that runs from West Plains to Springfield, Missouri and is usually powered by a pair of SD40-2s (BNSF 1777 and 1998 respectively), although there are instances when a third SD40-2 is added when the local calls for extra horsepower. Happy holidays!

    Green Bay has the ESCANABA AND LAKE SUPERIOR RR regional that still uses SD40-2'S from Green Bay North on the former MILWAUKEE ROAD track to Pembine, Iron Mountain Michigan in the Upper Peninsula, and Channing, MI., plus other track that are semi abandoned but used for car storage. Three(3) diesels are still painted Conrail Blue. Which also matches the E.M.D. and G.A.T.X. Lease Fleet units. But, unit 1338 is called I.S.L.X. and painted in the GREAT NORTHERN livery of Orange and Green for the "EMPIRE BUILDER" Passenger train. And those colors also match the GP40 Number 400. And the special BALDWIN 300 Class RS12 used frequently on the Presidential Inspection train. Plus other special excursions. MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎅 🤶 🎄 ❤ 2021 A.D.!! AND, HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022 A.D.!! GOD BLESS EVERYBODY WITH WISDOM, HEALTH, HAPPINESS, AND PEACE ON EARTH!!!!! ALLELUIA!!!!! AMEN 🙏.

    GATX, my friend and I gave them the nickname "Gay-tex" since the 1990's. At the time we didn't understand what or who the railroad was (before google), so we called them as we thought. As of today, we still call them by their nickname as it seems fitting.

    what locomotive is the most sold is it GE ore EMD

  • @dave6695
    @dave6695 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The IC GP40X you showed with a photo had nothing to do with nor was from the second group of 23 GP40X units and was not connected to or had anything to do with EMD developing the 50 series, and is a very different GP40X than the GP40X used by EMD to develop the 50 series. The GP40X painted IC orange and white was used by EMD to develop the GP40 series in the 1960's.

    • @ProLGL
      @ProLGL 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know you aren’t asking me, but I know a lot of ppl who work for CSX and live in the heart of CSX territory, I highly doubt it. CSX is very big on saving as much money as possible, and special paint schemes such as heritage units just spend “unnecessary“ money.

      @keithmoore5306 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ProLGL yeah i don;t see it happening either but you hear things here and there and it's a question!! although i do hope they got a good deal on that grey paint some of the engines are sporting and will be painting more with it! that tri color looks a hundred times better than just the yellow on blue!!

    Why is the Reading and Northern reporting mark RBN and not RAN? Is there another railroad with the RAN reporting mark?
    Also, since NS abandoned the Nineveh-Albany line, who owns it now?

    • @Trains21
      @Trains21  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      R&N's reporting mark is RBMN.. I'm not aware of any Nineveh-Albany line that's been abandoned. Thanks for watching.
