Blonde redhead’s songs are just otherworldly, nostalgic and soo ethereal. This song makes me feel like i’m in a whole another dimension, far away from here, floating around, freely and carelessly in a surreal painting. After all i’ve said, there are still not enough words to describe how their music makes me feel.

Such a fantastic drummer. This drummer made me appreciate how much drums can do for a song. Probably my favorite drummer of all time, seriously. And, of course, everyone else is also amazing.

You might like to check out Topper Headon from The Clash if you aren't already familiar. Guns of Brixton, Tommy Gun and the ' heed the call out"(?) song esp. The Drummer from the Canadian group 'Battles' as well. I actually like Ringo Starr's laidback, sometimes energetic drumming too.
I think her singing is really good in this song also. (Like an Asian version of a singing angel chorister in a Van Eyck painting.)

Today is Jan 29, 2022. I just learned of BR Jan 25th, 2022 as they opened for another band I went to see. Sat 12 rows from the stage. I didn't know what to expect. Their set was good! This song... This song just stuck in my brain. A couple days later it was still in my head. I had to dig in and find out more about BR. Surprised to see this was posted in 2007! I thought they were a newer band! Nope.. I learned they formed in 1993 and released ~9 studio albums. How did I go so long without knowing about BR?

To be fair, only 238 dislikes around 5 years later. A very very tiny percentage of individuals... Compared to over 2 million views and 13 thousand likes...
Considering how many miserable people exist, that's pretty excellent in retrospect.

    • @PlaysWithChildren
      @PlaysWithChildren 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@fruub True, but many people are not really listening to music when they hear it, or don't know how to really listen at all. All they can do is hear the surface level of the song and they try to find songs that have the catchiest melody or hook in the vocal and don't know how to decipher good music vs mediocre music. There is such a thing as objectively good quality and bad quality music but people want to believe that all opinions are valid. I mean, I like lofi music and avant garde music and extremely ambient noise music and punk bands that can barely play their instruments, and I understand those things are not for everybody for sure, but certain music is undeniably aesthetically pleasing to the ear and this song definitely falls under that category. Even if it doesn't blow everybody away, it is still a head scratcher that anybody would have a hostile reaction to soothing music such as this..

    Twenty-three magic
If you can change your life
Your tainted heart (your tainted heart)
My tainted love (my tainted love)
    Repent now
    How many times
    As long as you live
    How many times
    The world will go around
He was a friend of mine
He was a son of god
He was a son of a gun
He was a son of god
He was a friend of mine
He was a son of god
He was a son of a gun
He was a son of god
    Twenty-three seconds
In you I see a chance
    Twenty-three magic
If you change the name of love
    Your crazy heart
    My crazy love
    Repent now
    How many times
    As long as you wish
    How many times
    The world will go around
    How many times
    As long as you want
    How many times
    The world will go around
He was a friend of mine
He was a son of a gun
He was a son of god

Man...this song is -just about- perfect. As a songwriter myself, it kinda kills me that I didn't write this....it's just one of those super rare songs that come around every now and then that are just transcendent and timeless. I love the mix of the steady EDM-ish break-beat along with the shoe-gaze guitars. And the chord progressions throughout this song....gah, they're just gorgeous. It's such a _simple_ chord progression, but through the incredibly tasteful and intelligent use of inverted chords and descending chromatic bass-lines...those otherwise simple chord progressions sound undeniably rich and complex. Ok...enough ranting about how much I love this song; I could easily go on for hours about how perfect this one song is...but it's better to just smoke a bowl, let the sound wash out of the speakers, and bliss-out.... :)

I think it's all about the soul in songwriting, many musicians when asked what makes a great song/tone/style they talk about the technical sides and skills but the soul is the most important thing when you produce, when you forget all what you've learned and just let yourself go and feel it, have fun :)

Perfect...sums it up. It's tasteful yet eclectic. Timeless yet contemporary. Not too complicated not too simple. Perfect chords. Perfect melody and rhythm. Just perfect. Definitely one of those songs I kick myself for not writing. It's so simple and obvious it sounds as though it was always meant to exist.
