    What happened to normal cell.....? May they prone to starve of glucose

  • @ze5737

    I DONT know what will u think of me guys ,but I have a foolish question to ask .
    The explanation in this video was so good ,that urge me to raise such question .
    If co- virus did it job in glycolysis in the host cell - Can we take more glucose in any form then during the time of suffering in order to compensate the glucose that have been broken down by the virus ??

      HI Zenyorika! No question is a foolish question!
      Coming back to your question. 2-DG is a glucose analog and not glucose. 2-DG inhibits glycolysis. So, if you intake more glucose once you are infected, you are serving the infected cells with more glucose and hence the rate of glycolysis and glycosylation will increase! and hence the infectivity and reproducibility of the virus! 2-DG inhibits this by blocking increased glycolysis of the infected cells.

    Can u explain how this 2DG selectively targets the virus infected cells not the uninfected cells?

    • @BiprojitNath
      @BiprojitNath  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi @boris 25! 2-DG is basically an analogue of glucose! targeting infected cells is based on the fact that infected cells are highly glycolytic in nature! so the uptake of glucose in the infected cells will be high! But, again 2-DG does not have "DRUG LIKE PROPERTY" so it is not highly specific to infected cells, rather cells that are highly glycolytic will also take up 2-DG, for example, a tumor (its highly glycolytic, and hence will take up 2-DG. I don't have enough data from INMAS Work to appropriately tell you what modification has been done on 2-DG to make it highly specific for covid infected cells! Hope it helps!

    What if normal cells uptake the 2DG, is there any side effects for that if not then why its only affecting infectious cell and not normal

    • @boris2512
      @boris2512 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I heard this 2DG selectively targets the virus infected cells ..If normal cells takes it up it will be very serious since it will stop the glycolysis in those cells thereby stopping further pathways like tca cycle and electron transport chain
