A correction: the list of mantles is not tied to the previously unlock mantle but the number of monsters hunted, let me explain: I never got the Magmadron mantle, I looked for it on the list and nothing, I have only hunted one magma almudron, after hunt five, and not getting the mantle, it becomes available for purchase for 150 coins, so it's no need to get the mantle before to be available at the list
Funny, Magmadron was how I found out how to properly unlock them too. (Technically mine was Malzeno, but I got it naturally on the fifth hunt, but she helped discover the pattern after I fought Magma.)
That explains why I didn't have the Abysall Mantle of Gaismagorm on the list in the beginning even though I got it before. Thanks for that correction! :)
it's mainly for those people that have trouble with those monsters. For me Valstrax is a pain to deal with, and his mantle is just not dropping for me. So my time is def worth 300 coins if I have easier monsters that I can reliably take out quickly.
The point is that some mantles have ridiculously low drops, like Espinas and his 3% global drop rate, and you'll eventually be sitting on those coins anyway, so it's a good addition regardless
7:15 small correction here. I have not received a Valstrax mantle(Draonsphire) but it is still available to me. I verified this by looking at my hunter's notes and that material is still a ??? to me. So I think the materials will show as long as you have completed either one hunt, or a certain number of hunts with that monster.
About the mantles I don’t know what unlocks them because it isn’t “having one” for me: -I can buy Goss Harag Bile+ despite never having fought Goss Harag in Master Rank -I can buy Lunagaron’s Mantle despite never having obtained it. -I am unable to buy Shagaru’s Mantle despite having two in my inventory, -I am unable to buy Rajang Heart despite having obtained two earlier(I have since used both, but I have obtained it)
I think it has to do with fighting an equivalent monster in anomaly investigations (if it exists) and if you’re achieved a certain level. Prior to the the update I’d fought every MR a monster and only unlocked certain mangled after achieving certain anomaly investigation levels or obtaining the mantle itself. Everything should be unlocked my AI level of 81
It seems like the mantles/rare drops become available after you've hunted that monster 5 times, and it has nothing to do with whether you've gotten one before or not. I have most of them unlocked, and the only ones that aren't there are from monsters I've hunted less than 5 times. Other than that, really helpful video! :)
It's hilarious to see people complain about rng and their guild card shows 3 of said monster hunted. If people can't farm a monster how are they going to farm those coins?
Honestly wish his list also included gems and not just mantles. I've gotten mantles, but some weapons I want need to be upgraded from high rank and I am having awful gem luck.
I wish I could trade-in my mantles for investigation coins, I could be getting so many Outfit Voucher+ if that was the case, or other mantles that I might need. I have 5+ Mantles for a lot of monsters and I'm almost never going to actually use them, but they're worth so little in melding, it's basically a waste.
Grinding a specific monster for its mantle might still be a lot faster than going for the same investigation quests again and again until you have enough coins. And it's less tedious imho.
I've had really bad luck trying to get a magmadron mantle, ~25 magma almudron hunted and not even one, but the mantle is still available to purchase from bahari. I've also gotten an Astalos mantle on my first hunt, but it isn't available. I think his stock is tied to how many monsters you've hunted and not what drops you've gotten.
Something to note when attempting to join a multiplayer investigation: Choose your desired target _before_ you choose the desired minimum level. For some reason, if you try to enter the minimum level first, it resets back to 1 when you choose your target. It's really annoying and initially made me think the Research Requests were broken.

Thanks for the tips but I don't think the mantles unlock like that. I don't have the Narwa mantle available but I've already got at least 3 of those because I have a complete Narwa armor set and multiple Narwa weapons.
For whoever finds this ancient video, this is actually bad advice The time it will take you to fight research request monsters is usually way longer than it'd take you to just fight something like great izuchi solo over and over, you lose out on the +1 bonus and would need to do 10 runs instead of 5 (unless you luck out and roll izuchi, baggi or wroggi) but it's incredibly fast and risk free. Izuchi has something like 60k+ health even at higher levels which is super low compared to your general fare of 80-100k base, health is multiplied by an amount per player in the quest so if you end up in a 4 man quest vs an annoying monster and you and the others are scrubby at fighting it you will literally be there forever chipping away at like 250k health monsters just to get a measly 2 completion marks, so don't do that if you're in a hurry
I think the mantels are based on something else I had zinogre skymerald despite not having one till a few hunts ago. Narga mantel I don't have but it's in the list with bahari

He does kinda have a point. Even the high level A5 investigations usually give you 4-7 basic amber essences. It's more resource efficient to just do a relatively easy investigation instead.
I generally stick with what I have on the first roll unless it's something bad, since I'm not absolutely crazy about min-maxing, though I have gotten lucky on some of my rolls.
I'm not so sure about requiring to get the mantle once to be able to buy it... I never got a magmadron mantle ever, but after playing a lvl71 magmadron quest it appeared in the list.
So the main objective for these hunts is to just destroy the afflicted monster as fast as possible? Or do I have to do partbreaks? Im running a wyvern ammo HBG build and it melts monsters but I am concerned of whether or not I need to partbreak if I want to get the most out of the investigations.

I feel like it would be faster to just actually hunt for the part you need rather than do all that effort for the coins. At the moment, I only do those as a side thing while leveling up and never my focus.
Hunt the infected version of the monster you need. If you fail 150 times in a row then you can buy the mantle. And you will be very happy that it is an option.

That can't be right. I am %1000 positive I've never gotten a Nargacuga mantle, I've been trying to get one for the longest and I've been hyper focused on checking for it after every Narga hunt and shiny pickup. Yeah I just checked and it's still "???" on the parts list in my hunters notes. Same for Epinas and gore magala mantles and they too are on my Bahari list.
I have a similar thing going on, I can buy Mizu, Goss, Zin, and Lunagaron “Mantles” despite never having got them. And even tho I’ve got Rajang Hearts, Shagaru Mantles and Magma Mantles I can’t buy them.

the funniest is when you star that system and he tells you "hunt x monster at x level" for the first time but... it just so happens that ti's physically impossible to get that monster to that level in under 4 quests. no, before anyone says anything, this will happen because you can only join quests up to a specific rank unless you have a lobby i guess where a friend has the one you want so till you have the rank grind progressed to a certain point you will miss out on a lot of these. yep, same as the old MHW system, you have to have been blessed by RNJesus once already then you can use this to bypass his cruel whims.
I never got mantle of origins and I can buy it ,so this is wrong in vid that depends if you ever got one or not.And yes I checked even materials in large Monsters and Allmother got 2 hidden materials which I never got which must be a Mantle and something else. I was trying to farm one for last 10 Allmothers and nothing.
maybe it is something particular for narwa and ibushi, I need some mantles from other monsters (like magma almudrom) that I never found and I can't meld them, they are not available for me in the list. And moreover, the mantles from the new added monsters aren't available, at least in this update. I found a mantle from lucent nargacuga and I don't have it available for melding in the list

Maybe for monsters of a certain tier it's unlocked by default and for other there is something involving their afflicted version or something else, but who knows, I can be, and probably I am, completely wrong xD

Game almost all need a mantle to lvl 9 or 10 150× 150 =22500 coins ive done 200 master rank quest and only need like 5 -10 mantles to finish all weapons its more annoying getting afflicted bones pelts and blood. They wait for game to really put the grind out
This video was rather useless, and just seems to state obvious bits of information that everyone can easily figure out just by spending a short time with the Title Update.
On anomaly investigation, bring peart breaker, every part break you get on ANY monster you get the same reward as picking up an aflicted resource point

I’ve been using the search system to get the right request. It also gives you a chance to get the investigation for the next hunt :)

So I would like to point out that I never got an abyssal dragonsphire but they are showing up for trade for the investigation coins.

Part breaks are very valuable on afflicted monsters. Increases your chances of getting additional afflicted parts.
I did that online Quest thing and for some reason it didnt count for me. I guess it bugged out or something.
