I'm a local adker , Essex county. Tracking is tough up here because alot of private lands that border the state land and or split down the middle . Makes it hard to track unless your willing to do unethical things. I'm not a fan of trespassing so I opt to track as far as I can and sit on watch or still hunt the border lands . I get my buck every year

Having hunted southern Colorado from my childhood until now I've hunted in a lot of deep snow. I always keep a high powered rifle without a scope for days when the snow is falling so densely visibility is not far. Over the years I've become a good tracker and it's passed down to my son and grandkids. The density of these woods make visibility difficult.
The problem here is the mix of dark woods and then huge amounts of open hardwoods. A good 1.5-4x scope with quick acquisition works great, if it’s snowing hard or it’s falling from trees a peep is key
What’s kind of boots are you guys using. I know most people use rubber boots while tracking. I a done a little tracking with rubber boots but would love to use leather just worried about wet feet.
We use a variety of Crispi boots and haven’t found a bad pair yet. Any brand of gators is good to use with them!
I wear llbean 8" high . I use sno-seal 2 coats the 3 coat mink oil I put on in July at night then put them in the back window of my car all day at work the oil soak'in well in direct sunlight.i also put a white rag over the rubber to the sun of it . Never had wet feet. I also use the little Bungie from a game camra to go around the cuffs of my wool pants and that keeps out everything
