I did the same exact thing in the early 70'2 after Nam, had the same horse problem, and had a mule with me also. I did the Pacific NW trail, the first time I tried but failed, and planned wrong. The following year completed it.... praise God. Yes, I came back a different person...after the war,I need that, changed me for the better. Semper- Fi.

Friend of mine, his father went into the blue mountains In Oregon for a few years after Vietnam. Luckily for him, he grew up packing into those mountains. So it was second nature to him. He still rides into our elk camp every year. Guy is a legend. Im sure it was insane back in those days. What a life you lead Dennis!

My uncle used ro use my childhood address and my faimlys house as his home base when he was an OTR driver. He kept his cars, guns, motorcycle... ect here. He saved alot of money that way and me and my brother were always excited to see him every month or two when he came to town.

You know that the early mountain men bought provisions such as coffee' sugar and salt so. No shame in bringing such things. I do however love the pure way you go about these adventures. My father did the same in Alaska in the late 40's and early 50's. God bless and I'll be keeping a good thought for you and yours.

Number one I am a retired fish and wildlife officer from Alaska and I can guarantee you if a man is starving the hunting laws do not apply.
Number two you actually have to kill something to break a law to begin with,
I'm thinking behind the scenes The producer slips you a sandwich in your sleeping bag along with the hot hands😮.
And certainly a sack of cracked corn for seven.

Support crew does not automatically mean food or shelter. It does mean more for him to ultimately consider/worry about than himself & his horse.
Honesty is a major part of survival & filming survival, as it happens, when it happens. There are enough of us that know about real life survival to help keep most of these survival shows fair & square. If you don't think it's on the up & up don't watch. There are plenty of others to watch.
I am enjoying & identifying with this trip enough to want to see more from Laramy.❤

It really blows my mind with so many rules on what/how you have to hunt in the middle of nowhere. Wasn't like that growing up for me. If it passed on my land of 80 acres then it was fair game. And we ate dear, rabbit, wild turkey, beaver, and snake. No rules. Mind you we also had a very big garden and other farm raised animals to eat as well. We only killed what we needed to live. And we always ate what we killed and tanned the hides, dogs got the bigger bones. Good way to grow up.

Horses are so cool. At 56:43 the horse stars to look back to the right at the rider as if to say..."Hey man, I thought we were a team? Don't throw me under the buss in front of these guys? :)" Perhaps it will encourage this green horn to step up as he learns. Horses usually do. Heck, I'm 54 and I don't walk into tall grass - well EVER. Good temperament shown by the trainer. Peace

The mountain men utilised what was available at the time. They even learned from and utilised accoutrements the Indians had. I’m certain it was a constant learning process of trial and error.
Without question, they were tough and rugged men who blazed trials into the unknown wilds.
We can never fully duplicate their lives, but we can have fun reenacting what portions of their lifestyle are possible.
I’m an IronHorse mountain man. I blend the old with the new while riding my two-wheeled Horse named Old Lady Harley. Let’s not be too harsh on Sasquatch. He’s having a good time.

I watched this last year once and I'm watching it again on my breaks from working on some of my lifelong dreams. At my age (72), I suppose you might say it's one of the items on my bucket list, but with a strong body, good health, the grace of God and a degree in mastering old school larnin', I am (and I say this under my breath) finally in a place where I feel I can act on them. I used to work for a man in North Idaho who trained horses. Then we would ride them ten miles up the mountain to fine tune them for what this handsome feller (okay, you too) is doing right here. We saw BIG cat prints, moose and elk dropping and evidence of bears in the hood. They're all up there just 20 miles from the B.C. border. When we reached the top, we could see all over creation including Canada. That's one of many I can tic off my list; smiling from ear to ear!
But for now it's pause and back to making another one happen.
Until later, the absolute best to you and yours! Don't stop what you're doing!
    Peace out,
    Naomi🌹

First time watching and enjoyed every bit of it! 💪🌄 Appalachian here. I also love the mountains and I loved that even though the mountains are different regions. The mountain life is still the same.

Love this so much. I cant help but imagine the troubles of trying to film everything at the same time like when youre hunting you cant just set up cameras and keep walking back to pick them up as youd be risking spooking game all the time so id imagine there were a lot of re-enactments in order to portray what happened to the viewer. Awesome job 👏

Thanks for the epic story and journey you took us on brother. I appreciate everything you do and I truly enjoy how you showed us how a real mountain man has to struggle to survive in our beautiful wilderness. God bless you and your family. Can't wait until you do it again so we can enjoy the next squatch journey.

Well brother, I picked at ya a little, but I agree with your philosophy and the ending with the family was a beautiful touch. God bless.
I lived in Montana and worked on a ranch for awhile years ago; 40 miles northeast of Missoula. It was a great experience. If I ever get in your neck of the woods, would like to meet up…

We never tied out horses solid.. We tied them to a tire or a big log that they could move by raising their head. They couldn't run away but stopped them from getting hurt on a solid tie..

I have an Adams arms p3 .223 wylde and use stock milspec spring and a kynshot hydraulic buffer so I'm pretty happy with this set up in a piston rifle but I'm thinking to go to a heavier spring
