I’m heartbroken on how heavy the character assassination of Cordy and Conner goes but they both did play what they were given with full conviction. Which agreed that the Cordy Character isn’t real Cordy but an imposter. It’s more they wrote her out of the show before letting the character be redeemed. ❤😔🔥
This was a masterful look at everything that went right (and horribly wrong) with season 4! I couldn't agree more with what was said about the Las Vegas and Jasmine storylines, as well as the infamous Connor/Cordelia "romance". (I need eye-bleach from rewatching those scenes, lol!) And, wow! How much did the Beast storyline feel like Indiana Jones G-rated fanfic? Been thinking that for years!! Excellent analysis!👏👏
Every single season 4 fanfic I have read is better than the actual season. I just have very little nice to say about this season and will just leave an algorithim comment.
Something weird I noticed about angel season 1 through 4 is that every episode where Wesley uses guns is an episode where Cordelia is either pregnant or will be impregnated by that episodes ending. Not sure why that happens but keep an eye out for that next time you watch the show.
Great video! Season 4 is a VERY bumpy ride and its a shame as there are glimpses of greatness there! The Jasmine arc is probably the highlight, with Wesley's Dynamic with Lilah being fun to watch! I also loved Gwen and wished they did more with her!
I appreciate these videos. The editing, commentary on the writers, and the injection of humorous clips. Particularly, the singer in Wesley's head, Xandar montage scenes, and the Conor hit by door bits. My only criticism is the audio balancing. If that is something that can be improved.
I laughed a lot in this review. Also glad you didn't hate this rewatch as much as you thought you would. Your comments on Mere Smith and fanfiction are a good lens through explaining why I quite like a lot of it. Because this is the season that's got battle royale, big Buffyverse crossovers, Secret Wars or Infinity War. And though most is all over the place its got epic icon punch up in delicious spades. I enjoyed giving it the benefit of the doubt until getting to 'Inside Out' which is the utter worst showing a hand of cads: a royal should-be-flushed; no plan; utter bile. I appreciated your comments on the treatment of Charisma Carpenter. Those clarified the link between awful creator and an awful creation in a strong argument.
Yes Wesley’s blood is stronger than an Animal’s blood when it comes to an Vampire! That’s just common sense In almost any vampire lore rather movies books or TV shows. Human blood gives them life and strength !
Writing staff wise obviously Minear would have been best to replace Greenwalt, but it didn't happen in that order. The first thing to happen was Whedon sold Firefly to Fox and recruited Minear as Showrunner for his new show (Minear signed a deal with Fox mid-season 3 of Angel). Drew Goddard then applied to both Buffy and Angel, both Greenwalt and Noxon wanted him, forcing Whedon to arbitrate. Noxon had found Goddard first, so he went to Buffy. Realizing that this left Angel short of writers Whedon moved DeKnight over to Angel. DeKnight wrote 'Seeing Red' knowing he was moving to Angel and to curtail spoilers claimed that 'If Tara died he'd leave Buffy'. Meanwhile Greenwalt's contract with Fox was ending, and Fox 'weren't stepping up to the plate' or more plainly weren't offering the money Greenwalt was expecting. Greenwalt had another offer and left. David Simkin was hired as new showrunner, but departed following creative differences after only a couple of months and was never credited on an episode of Angel. Meanwhile Marti Noxon who had been a Consulting Producer on Angel for the first three years was stepping up her involvement on Buffy as showrunner and was also Pregnant, and thus unable to continue on Angel. David Fury was drafted in as a replacement with the intention that he assist Angel on occasion but primarily work on Buffy. Due to the shortage of writers on Angel, Fury ended up primarily an Angel writer. With so few writers its no surprise that DeKnight wrote the premier, Only Bell and Smith were actually retained exclusively from the previous year. Following the loss of Simkin, Jeffrey Bell was promoted to showrunner. Bell had only been a co-producer on the S3 premier, he was promoted to producer mid-way through S3, and Supervising Producer for the S4 premier. By episode 2 he was named Co-Executive Producer and Showrunner, a rapid promotion that would have normally taken several years. Despite the move to Firefly, Minear was still involved in Angel and assisted Bell in showrunning Angel part time, despite only writing the finale Minear had some involvement throughout the season. However Minear's deal with Fox led to him being moved by Fox to Wonderfalls at the conclusion of the season. In Season 5 there was a plan for him to return, either to write or direct 'The Girl in Question' but a scheduling issue lead to him being unavailable (in the end Greenwalt returned to direct the episode) Mere Smith meanwhile left Angel at the end of Season 4 to join 'Tarzan'. At the time Smith and DeKnight were in a relationship and Angel's renewal was far from certain. The couple decided that it would be better for Smith to leave and ensure that at least one of them had a job next year in case Angel wasn't renewed. Perhaps ironically Tarzan didn't last more than a few episodes whilst Angel ran for the full 22.
not that bad to me, has some of my favorite episodes. "Awakening", "Orpheus" and "Magic Bullet" are all in my top Angel episodes. I agree about the sabotage of Cordelia, but at the same time I think Charisma did a great job playing a messed up emotional abuser, it felt pretty real and familiar. If anything, I'm more upset with how they brushed off her death in season 5, the characters didn't seem to mourn at all and that always didn't sit right with me.
Jasmine was by no means an abuser. It was a carefully planned plot. The Angel gang were all used to bring Jasmine into existence. Of course the writer's hadn't planned this from day one. The plot for season 4 (and the rest of Angel) had to be suddenly changed to incorporate Carpenter's real-life pregnancy. Whedon wasn't justified in treating Carpenter badly, but it is understandable he was angry.
did they really though? its litterlally not her. one of the most edge of your seat seasons of television, its angering because we care but thats also why its good
About "Supersymetry" Im fairly certain Fred straight up killed one of Holtz's dudes with a crossbow in the previous season. She hits two, one is injured but moving, the other isn't
I never hated this season but for me things didnt get started till the beast showed up. Also hot take but i didn't see this as a character assassination for Cordy cuz it wasn't Cordy. From what I always understood she didn't come back from the higher plane till s5. Everything in s4 was Jasmine.
It's interesting because Jasmine had the same motives as the Avatars in Charmed. People had to die for this world of peace and love to work and neither scenario worked. I really liked that
Oh no… not season 4 😂 this was my least favorite season, by far. I liked the Angelus arc, but not much else. Especially not the thing with Cordelia and Connor
Also, that door clip you keep adding is hilarious. I found Connor extremely annoying throughout this season. He had like 4 functioning brain cells at most and ZERO common sense. Then again, though, Angel is his father, so 👀 I guess being extremely dense must run in the family
angel and angelus are certainly seperate beings and they definitely dont share thougts. they share a body but are not at all the same person. genuinely confused on how you disagree with this
I always wished she had come back in S5 as a member of Team Angel. Honestly they could've used Gwen as a love interest for Connor she was closer to his age!
@@benjamintriplett3 that would have been terrible for the same reason faith and Connor is a terrible idea that this reviewer suggests. Connor sucks and has absolutely nothing to give in a relationship, they could both elevate him sure but why would either be remotely interested in him? how could he be a good partner for either? Gunn and Fred shouldn't have had the contrived bs break up but since they did Gunn could have been great for Gwen.
Man that zombie episode had the chance to be really cool but it was so lame how each of the characters had bladed weapons, yet decide that punches and pommel strikes were all they could do, putting down Gavin being the only exception. Damn you, censorship
All of season 4 is just a interpritation Revelation (the final book in the Bible). When i look at it like that I am able to get passed some of the creepy plotlines. The Anti Christ (Jasmine) blah blah blah
This show was meh at best til conner came and brought some FIRE. It was mahed potatoes and conner brought the seasoning and garlic butter. First season that got me into the show then went back to watch the previous seasons. Before season 4 i would catch an episode here and there and was just so boring. Too masc for me. Conner is like his moma. Darla spiced up season 2 and he spiced up the angel series.
The zombies weren't raised by the Beast. I'm sure it's said in the episode that it's Wolfram and Harts mystical security system.
Yeah it was a security system Wolf em and hart had!

Did I miss the recap of Faith getting attacked in prison by an agent of the First? The woman who attacked her had a Bringer's knife.

There is no Cordelia/Connor romance. Charisma Carpenter was not playing Cordelia Chase in season 4.

Wesely stays strapped, Cordelia gets clapped

Angel season 4 is a crime against humanity.
🤣🤣🤣
It’s definitely the show’s weakest… but I’ve seen far worse lol

Thanks so much! This was definitely the season I had the most fun with when making the Buffy and Angel videos, and I’m so glad others enjoy it :)

love this season

Andy Halet reminds me so much chandler from friends in this episode
We need a f*** Off Connor like how we have for Dawnie
It was a shame how they did Cordy and Gunn for that matter.

Jasmine (who has taken over Cordelia's body) seduces Connor because she needs to be born to a human woman to take human form and take over the world.
