They are indeed. I think the more stable geometry gives confidence and all-day comfort over fast road bikes and they are lighter and more sporty than touring bikes, almost the best of both or a compromise of both depending on your point of view.👍
Cheers Chris, you're not wrong, that is what it's about and the Isle of Wight was great. Some of the group had to pull out last minute on this trip, so seriously considering going back with them in June for another go.
Ideal for bikes. Only 10 miles to Christchurch from Lymington or 30 mins must be faster than train and much cheaper from that station. I clocked 90 miles for one lap.
Yes, was an option but quite happy to meet others from further afield on the train. Looks like we're going back early June as some of the group had to pull out at the last minute. It's the Randonnee this weekend so the ferries will be packed with cyclists.👍
nice video guys, strong riding in that wind! that route looked really good to take the hardtail around before doing the Randonee on the gravel bike next year - defo need the rowntrees trail mix for that one :) the IOW is brilliant for cycling, such a good mix of trails and smooth roads, lots of elevation though - and Blake is a legend :)
I live in Spain and we have windmills in the land of La Mancha. I don't do tourist stuff (some rides, Arts) but I love seeing it. If you're an advanced cyclist maybe I have something to offer, aside from bicycle stuff I do clinical research.
Thanks for the sub. I'll be sure to take a look at your channel. We do all sorts of cycling but don't put everything on youtube as it's not really a vlog, more a record and to share the rides with the others that take part or might want some inspiration.
@@WheelersAtLarge There's about 1 million bicycle Channels, the fact that we have any subs is terrific and the fact we keep growing as even better. I'm very happy I found your Channel. PS: Good editing.
@@WheelersAtLarge I just picked up a new subscriber and believed it was you and hoping it was. At any rate I posted an Olive Oil video, I usually leave a blue location link and I used the Isle of Wight to celebrate our meeting.
Why skip from leaving Wootton cycle track before going back to Medina at 18:30, to going back to Ryde. Surely it was Bembridge windmill, Appley beach at Ryde, then Fishbourne, Wootton, River Medina,
Thanks the comment Thomas. If you mean why was it skipped in the video, I seem to remember the camera was charging for some of the route. We did ride past the windmill so possibly rode the route as you've suggested. We were lucky enough to visit again in 2020 but at our own pace so a little better prepared and did include more of the route.
The route we took started with the first 4 hills of the 7 hills race so you may be able to find that as a gpx file. We went out from Yarmouth around to Freshwater bay on a rail trail then up over the top from there towards ìow bike park.
Very enjoyable, and certainly show the versatility of those gravel bikes!

Great video, very enjoyable. Looks like you really enjoyed that ride and had fun. That’s what it’s all about.

It's a very good video.
@@WheelersAtLarge I bought my gravel bike in Wales, Great Britain has fantastic cyclocross too.
Hello from across the pond. Another great video!
Thanks, it was a good day. I must get around to a bike check sometime... 👍
I live on the island and grew up in Rookley. Glad you enjoyed your day, I’m lucky to ride these trails, roads in a regular basis. Just subscribed 👍
It was one of our best riding days, despite the gale force winds...
Been following you a while and come across this one iv done the randerlee 3 times love you gravel rides I'm looking at getting one
We've never ridden the road loop, so hoping to get over there this year. Glad you're enjoying the rides, cheers for the comment...👍
Great video Mike, keep on riding. I am with you trying to loose some weight.
Yes, bad habits are creeping in. Must spend more time on the bike, less in time in the fridge... Good luck with your efforts...

It was £8 return for the train, and as we weren’t sure what time we’d finish riding or how tired we’d be, the train was sensible option

Looking forward to our next trip to the island. I hear the 2023 randonnee has been announced already...👍
@@WheelersAtLarge 30th April 23 - hopefully the weather is better next year :)
Fantastic. 👍I live in Sandown. Need to get me bike out. 👍
Definitely, the roads are the smoothest I ever ridden and some great off-road too.

I don't suppose you are able to dig out a GPX for this ride?
I'm sure IOW Shakedown is under the the files tab on the Dorset Grit and Gravel FB Group👍
