I bought the single of this track on 45 rpm vinyl in 1978 - on brown vimyl ! Great days pre -CD and imternet streamimg. Also - the band were a great alternative to the likes of Genesis et al and all the disco Donna Summer/John Travolta/Bee Gees stuff back then. Pure nostalgia - don't you just love it ! It's great, too, that today's generation can appreciate this great British Rhythm 'n' Blues band via internet platforms like TH-cam - who are probably still very underrated.
i bought this single in 1978 also on brown vinyl & cool for cats on pink vinyl at Waterloo station before a school trip to Belgium,my 1st 2 singles ever.
If anybody thinks the band look rough on the promo films, you should have seen them live. Rough, ready and one of the best bands of all time. If Lee was still with us he would have put Rag 'n' Bone man in the shade with his fantastic voice and "mouthie" playing. Once a fan of Dr Feelgood, you'll always Feelgood.
I saw them numerous times and all \I can say was attitude...stood eye to eye with Lee numerous times as they often were not at big venues....mesmeric, the whole band ...
Still the greatest Rthym and Blues track ever recorded bar none. Style and Menace what a combination. R.I.P Wilko and Lee. Dr Feelgood got into my system from the start.
Wow......that 20 second guitar solo is so underrated, its criminal...... Bass player sublime. Great, great band, who should have been massive, and I mean massive,. Of their type, we will probably never see the like of them again........ever
Gypie Mayo was such a good guitar player. Very different form Wilko, of course, but he really brought something special to the band. And you are right, we'll never see their like again.
I love Wilko, seen him a number of times, even when he played with the blockheads. His sound is unique and the early Feelgood recordings have an individual sound that wasn't repeated. However Gypie gave them a more cohesive, rounded and complete sound which is what helped give them their only top 10 single. It was however Wilko's guitar playing on their no.1 album stupidity, so you pays your money, you takes your choice. Whoever played guitar, their sound was great.
I suppose it is a bit like farting in church, but I always though Wilko was a one-trick pony. Great for Dr Feelgood, but I always preferred Gypie Mayo's guitar playing.
@Naz Nomad The band hated him -- all that talent and all that speed. But the rest of those fuckers had the absolute pure bollocks... they aren't a band, they're a road gang.
the lyrics are based loosely on an incident in America when the band had been drinking white Russians ( milk vodka and kalhua) were pulled over for running a red light. Wilko was still in the band then
Lee is performing from experience. One of the greatest frontmen in the history of recent times and a true talent that lost his life to excess. In other words a true Rock star. RIP Lee, you've left your mark big time.
And I am priveledged to have been able to call Gypie Mayo a friend of mine. I met him in the early nineties, and became friends with him not knowing who he actually was, I just knew him as a guitarist called John I met at the local music shop. Really nice guy and one hell of a guitarist.
@MIKE J l cannot be 100% but he played in bands largely unknown or off the radar.I think the band advertised and he won his audition. In the 1970s brilliant guitarists were in abundance,so many remained obscure and unlucky.Mick Taylor of the Rolling stones is one that got a lucky break as did Type.regards David
@@oughtonoughton2634 Sorry late reply Jane.. Glad you like my choice while I go up in smoke! What a band, eh? So underated, i could never understand that. Heard them first whilst repairing juke boxes.. That was it! Doc was ALWAYS the test record! xx
Never really gave the band a true listen until much later.. Why did we think we were really rocking, just listening to Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe ? Pretty d*n fine music by those two, but these guys, they mean business !
your never believe how I got into this band but back in them days I was young and the picture cover to the 45 had a lady with the band dressed in white tan tights and high heels . I had to buy it . the song was great I still love the band and ladies in tan tights and high heels lol :)
I was just in London this last weekend. I was staying at a hotel near LHR. Anyway, I walked to a local pub and this song was playing as a video on the TV. I had never heard it before...
When this came out I was a 13 year old punk fan. I bought this because I liked it and I suppose it was the start of my musical taste expanding. Had to keep it seperate from my punk stuff. Bucking the trend back then could be a nasty business.
One of them looks like bloody mic jagger, another looks like a drunk stepping out of a bar, the drummer looks like he just came home from private school and the bassist looks like a middle aged dad trying to feel young, but this band is sick🤘🤘

Great comment Allan.
I have to agree 😭🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸💯🆗

Lucky enough to have seen them live even if I was right by one of the speakers at the front
Saw them three times..not with Wilko though. Great times.
Sparko's work on the bass always under-rated. Keeps everything together.
One of the best bands from these shores deserved more recognition...
I grew up in New Zealand and had their records , people would say who the fuck is dr feel good ? when they looked thru my record collection :)
@SMC Gmail who underrated them and how is it a crime ? They were an amazing blues rock band
Just raw music and I love it.
In the 80s this band almost single handedly kept blues alive. Always a good band to see lives . Good times guaranteed.
A band that played bloody hard, drinks, cigs and fists. The best and toughest pub rock band ever and the best thing to come out of Essex.
Somebody said '...The Sweeney of rock'. Sums them up perfectly. Grubby suits, sweaty faces, booze and ciggies. And one of the best frontmen ever.
@@threadbear Definitely!

Extremely underrated band. Absolutely amazing. They were still good after Wilko's departure. But, they were their best with Wilko.

Play this at the loudest your speakers can take. Mind blowing your neighbours will love it.
The band were never truly appreciated at a national level... but us East End kids followed them everywhere. Canvey Island's finest.
Im 74 loved the song from day one lol love from coventry 😂
They were massive in America, they had name bands supporting them
@@kevinobrien1259 im 74 i loved the song from day
I never think Sparko gets enough credit for creating the spine of the Feelgood sound.
@Naz Nomad The band hated him -- all that talent and all that speed. But the rest of those fuckers had the absolute pure bollocks... they aren't a band, they're a road gang.
One of the best RnB bands ever...That is some guitar solo
This song packs more in less than 3 minutes than many more double albums. Hard Rock at its purest, rawest best.
Oh Yes..!!
You say that about a basic blues rock and roll song. LOL
I think Lee has forgotten the milk part and gone straight for the alcohol. Period. This band was pure rock and roll. They sweated rock and roll.

chris walford yep and you can bring it back too

Great description
Hahahaha
RIP Mr Wilco Johnson,,, there will NOT be any like you & thanks for the sounds!!,
Wilko and he didn't play on this track it was the also late and great Gypie Mayo
Takes me right back to the 70s! still listening in 2021

Saw the first gig he did with them in Cardiff after Wilco' left when they introduced this song, less visual than Wilco but a stunningly good player.
Gypie was by far the band's best guitarist. Wilco was excellent but usually limited himself to repeated riffs rather than solos
I think so too. Much as I like Wilco, for me he's a bit of a one-trick pony. Gypo had a lot more to offer a blues band like the Feelgoods.

Lee Brilleux had such intensity! What a legend
Up there with Jagger
R.I.P. Wilko (he didn't play on this track, I know, but his influence is still felt)
RIP Wilko bless you for your contribution to new wave and rhythm and blues.
Such a talented band, I love the energy in this song especially the late, great gypie mayo's guitar work, the tone on his guitar and solo are superb!
A brilliant no nonsense kinda band!!
I saw these awesome guys live in market harbour in the UK when I was 16 and loved every minute of it and still listen to this day 🔥🔥🔥
In any format/combo . . . .Lee was always never going to be less than completely awesome
This is some kick ass rock'n'roll !

It is Jan 2022 and I am 56yo. I am floored as to just HOW this song/band flew under my radar. Great song. Going to look up more of their music now.

Shame that they never got the breaks - or promotion - to make it huge, but then again, maybe it’s why they are legends now
