This is starting to feel like another Skull & Bones or Beyond Good & Evil 2 type of situation... I hope the new Ubisoft Montreal team manage to pull this project together, a Prince of Persia Sands of Time Remake deserves a great launch.

To be fair, it's a remake. They don't have to create an entirely new game, the mechanics have already been designed for them. All the studio had to do is update the assets to a modern look and they could have released the trailer to an overwhelmingly positive reception. There is so many basic things wrong with that trailer though, that I think that studio is simply incredibly incompetent. Ubisoft should have seen that coming though, because they created that studio and should have recognised the competence of the people working on it.

It’s because publishers will make a deadline for developers to finish a game so the game doesn’t end up like Star Citizen where your developers spent 10 years for only 10% of a game(if you can call it that). Some publishers though gives developers a ridiculous deadline of a year, sometimes less to produce a game. The end product of some publishers pushing this kind of deadline are developers working non-stop crunch time and the product is completely broken and unfinished, which then causes said developers getting laid off. So far the best publisher seems to be Microsoft actually learning their lesson from back then and now are allowing developers to take their time to make a product, but to also remind them and push the developers to not take 10 years to make a product.

Cheap software created by low paid and inexperienced developers is actually *really expensive* when you look at the technical debt and substandard results. I'll be far happier with the game we will hopefully get at the end of all this, but it just won't be the same. If they kept more in touch with fans about the development of SoT Remake I'd feel a lot better but we have all been left in silence and it just aint right with the very game that honestly kind of put them on the map 20 whole years ago. It’s pretty clear cut what happened. They though of making a reupdate of the game from the original, thus the lower grapics as they weren’t redoing them from scratch but just paintcoating, and gdd ad ve it to a minor studio.
Then Covid arrives. Now, I’ll admit I may be wrong, but Mumbai? That’s India right? They handled it horribly, so the studio probably didn’t work the thing at all.
They get to the status check date and realize the game is in the ground, and…they didn’t just shift it, It’s abundantly clear they told Monteal to start again, thus the undefined release date and the pre-order cancellation.
Overall, it’s very indicative that Ubisoft sees this as a quick buck project and they are shifting gear only because they got caught heavily pants down and in need to play this right now.

Just a reminder Ubisoft had their cheap labor mobile sweatshop studios based in India Pune / Mumbai working on this so called "remake" since early 2017 only pulling them off in May 2022 after the backlash got bad enough

I was 100% on board with what they initially showed. Yes, it just looked like a remaster, but it was all this game needed. It looked like a visually improved version of the game, but still kept the visual aesthetic of the game I played on Xbox 19 years ago.

Had a feeling it was doomed once the price was announced. Clearly a budget title from the start, such a shame

The day that dev was using keyboard with only one finger during Ubisoft forward event was the day I knew this was dumpster fire.

Just what the heck is going on with Mick Gordon and ID just straight up not paying him for 11 months.

Yeah, if I had to guess, maybe YongYea has some skin in the game (like having done voice work for id Software/Bethesda in Doom Eternal) and he didn't want to tick off one of his clients since it's a huge source of revenue.

Don’t forget that at one point there was going to be a filter for the entire game and a skin set for the prince that would make the game look like the original but it was a PRE-ORDER BONUS.
