I love how eobard thawnes story is literally the reverse of Barry's with Barry's started at season 1 and ending at season 9 and thawnes starting at season 9 and ending in season 1
I love how at some point reverse flash just kinda shows up in legends of tomorrow at some point and starts wreaking havoc for the crew and whatnot, and then we find out that he is currently running from like time death or something (it's been a while since I saw the episode). And the time death thing looks like a zombified version of the flash.
The thing about CW Eobard is that whenever he’s wearing Harrison Wells’s face is meant to convey to the audience that he’s the oldest version of Reverse Flash that was erased in Season 1. Up until he strands himself in the past by killing Barry’s mum & steal Wells’s face he’s always meant to look like original Eobard Thawne. It’s just convenient for the writers to continue with the version of the Reverse Flash who *KNOWS THIS SPECIFIC CW VERSION OF BARRY ALLEN’S FLASH* over the older version of Reverse Flash who had only knew of the *ORIGINAL TIMELINE ZERO COMICBOOK ACCURATE VERSION OF THE FLASH* that never got shown beyond a single brief glimpse & was never seen or heard of ever again.. Also in the final season Eobard straight up told Barry that everything he’s done throughout the entire series was apart a calculated plan to kill Barry without losing his powers by creating a Retro-Causality Paradox like he did when he killed Barry’s mother preventing Barry from becoming the Flash that young Eobard idolised into giving himself Superspeed & eventually becomes the Reverse Flash we see today.. Because his original plan in season one was to create the positive Speed Force within Barry so his Negative Speed Force could come back into existence, convince Barry to create timeline erasing paradox while he simultaneously gets out of the timeline to escape from the coming paradox he presumably had set in motion & if all else fails & he didn’t escape the Paradox then he’d be able to escape the Paradox regardless because of the fact he sent Barry to stop his younger self from stranding himself in the past & being doomed on the destiny line that will lead to his permanent death.. (Hell even the video confession he made Barry was just to put Henry in Zoom’s Crosshairs so that the only other person who was tied to that night where Eobard had stranded himself in the past would have given Barry another reason to go back & stop past Thawne albeit as an elaborate last ditch effort ruse from beyond the grave which ultimately ended up working out for Thawne.) & up until the end of Season Two “Wellsobard Thawne” would’ve permanently stayed dead but because of CW Flashpoint a version of Pre-Season 1 Reverse Flash will always know that he’s going to get stranded in the past for 15 years & eventually dies from being erased from existence, which is what ultimately led to him surviving being erased in Season One because he had planned out ways to warn his younger self whenever his plans would fail so that he’d plan ahead for it. TL;DR: He’s basically “Bill & Tedd”-ing himself whenever he’s about to lose to the Flash & or other DC heroes that comes his way.. 🫠
The reverse flash is my favorite villain of all time, counting Thawne and Hunter (comic hunter, there hasn’t been a real adaptation of hunter outside of it, zoom doesn’t count because besides the name he has nothing to do with him) I really like the contrast between the two too Thawne is like: “It was me Barry, I killed your grandma so you would doubt yourself, feel grief, becoming a worst superhero!!” While hunter is: “It was me Wally, I killed your grandma so you would become a better superhero to save other people’s grandmas!!” Also, i really really recommend the Geoff johns flash run
But just to continue Inertia would be: “IT WAS ME BART I KILLED YOUR GRANDMA BECAUSE IM A MANIAC AND WANTED TO” Daniel in the other hand: “It wasn’t me flash new 52, I didn’t kill your grandma, bro Im just trying to kill my father”
"Therw hasn't been a real adaptation of Hunter..." THANK YOU!! Everytime there's arguments of people saying "Barry stole all of Wally's villains" they bring up moments like Wally's Ex (Magenta, who's a Child in the show), Savitar (which is a lot more like Future Flash from N52), and the biggest example: Hunter Zolomon (who's so different from the Comics, he might as well be a new character). The funny part is, anyone who brings up CW Zoom as "Barry stealing Wally's villains" kinda show off who read the comics and who didn't!! ------ I agree with you on how they contrast their rivals! I want to add to this as well!! I love that both R. Flashes are basically a dark mirrors of their counterparts, and how you can learn so much about their characters' through them! Eobard Thawne - Barry Allen : something that you can appreciate is Eobard Thawne is evil for the hell of it, he thrives in messing around with super speed and is inspired by The Flash of the past. He's a Master Historian who uses his Knowledge of History to apply to his powers, allowing to be at any moment in time and know how it can affect the time stream. Likewise Barry Allen is a Master Scientist who applies his Knowledge of Science to his abilities, so he can do the most complicated manuevers like phasing, vortexes, and turbines. Where Thawne is evil for the hell of it, Barry chooses good because he loves helping, thus why he works for CCPD. Barry was a Hero before his powers, just as Thawne was Cruel before his. Their powers just allow them to enact what they desire most. Hunter Zolomon - Wally West : Hunter Zolomon came from a horrible family, where his father was abusive, just like Wally. But something where they also Mirror is how they both stand as the symbol of a broken ability that simulates each other. Time & Speed. Hunter & Wally both wants to be Heroes, want to be better, but how they came around things is different. To summarise their beliefs, they're like Spider-Man Fans, where 1 believes death, sadness, and sacrifices is what makes them a Hero. While the other believes the consequences, effort you do, and how much you can is what makes them a Hero. It's funny how Thawne/Allen mirror each other by going the opposite way, to meet the same destinations, while Zolomon/West Mirror each other from the same destination departing seperately.
I added a lot, but I just wanted to add something to appreciate the characters involved. Personally, I love the characters, they're amazing and I wish they can reach their fullest potential!! Unfortunately DC disallows them, by giving Batfamily & SuperFamily every writer on the market.
To add: I like how Barry doesn't kill people, because he doesn't believe in that... But the 1 person he doesn't mind killing is Thawne, because he'll come back anyways, and never existed to begin with.
I really like your video and how you put your points out clearly. I'm also occasional. I haven't read an even one flash comic, but I am a big flash fan. Due to that show and Justice League unlimited so I get you and I believe that he is the best villain with all the points you put out and to think that he's almost like death itself. Always there, never going to leave.
The line in season three episode one that made me really perk up was when Barry went to Thawne to have him kill his mother again, "and I hate you. And I sometimes wonder which of us is right." It showed a level of self awareness in Thawne that I didn't think he had. He understands right and wrong, good and bad. The horrifying part is that despite everything he's doing he believes he's in the right. That it should happen, that it's justified. That's an entirely different wrinkle that I didn't really see coming.
But whether or not thawne knew zoom was gonna kill Barry’s dad or not he still didn’t do it out of kindness. Literally his whole speech is to get back at Barry after death and he’s like watch I’ll free your dad and you’ll still be unhappy. He did it purely to have a last jab at Barry and show him how broken he is
You almost got it right. In the flash television show they bring up the fact that because reverse flash is always in the negative speed force time traveling he can never officially kill him. Every single version that the flash does come against has a different origin point. That's been reinforced by a past or current visit. If you want the full understanding of what's going on with reverse flash I would say watch legends of tomorrow. Where they deal with a reverse flash that was killed while holding the spear of destiny. They reconstructed him brought him back to life and then put him at the beginning of World war I with the murder of Francis Ferdinand to make sure he protects that part of the timeline. This is the reverse flash that gets reborn inside of the flash universe before the final battle.
Eobard Thawn is easily one of the most Iconic Villains in all of superhero comics, think thats where DC wipes the floor with Marvel the Villains are so much better
Guys, this may sound crazy but since there's a multiverse. What if there was a universe where the reverse flash is not only faster than the flash but faster than walley west. Imagine what he would do when you're sleeping at Night. "Statically 100% of peoples DNA could be traced back-"
I honestly think his story would be better if in a way I know the flash movie was ass but having bary visit another bary who has lived with his parents and takes it for granted would be an interesting way to introduce the reverse flash heck you can even say in the bed if it becouse if his speed he was able to escape but their was a side effect that he turned into a kid and got stuck in the 21 at century without his speed and hates his other time reminante so much that he gets rid of his name and gets adopted and takes the name Eorbard Thorne which could explain his obsession and in a way a consequence of Barry’s action honestly it could also be cool if the reverse flash has to kill his own mum to make sure that he is born and could explain why he is so smart because as a child he has the mind of an adult which makes it interesting

Reverse flash his little to no character motivation in any version ever created. Less than broly does for goku. Hes a greay villain but they honestly have almost never ever given him a proper reason to hate the flash. But it kinda makes sense because the flash is a good guy who was born way before revrse so how would he really have a real welll written grudge against him
This is foul, and undermines a crap ton of Flash's Villains. Not to mention, the fact that some of the villains have high potential, and writers basically maintains them nerfed beyond belief just to not complicate themselves on "how did Flash beat this character with one of the most Broken abilities?!"
@@prashantgiri1642 Can you name Examples? I'll name examples as well, but I'll use it in response. I'll also add the potential of their Abilities, if need be.
Why'd you undermine cw Barry's actions for making flashpoint? His actions had major consequences. Cisco's brother was killed because of it. Relationship dynamics had changed because of it. Barry's friends had every right to lay into him the way they did.
I may have just explained my feelings on it incorrectly, I agree that Cisco and some others that had their lives really changed have every right to be pissed through their perspective, but yeah I think I just didn't sit and explain that to the full degree because that's not what this video is really about

That's a pretty hot take but i can't deny the points. But i'm pretty sure all of this is due to not being able to have thawn without barry. His sole purpose is to ruin barry and because of this we never really saw him as anything but that. Maybe that's intentional and while as a character he suffers but as a villain he's pretty up there.
