Shane… Great hearing from you again mate. My wife is an ex Highway Patrol officer & she has told me many times that it’s more often than not about REVENUE 💰💰💰. The police KNOW that especially on any long weekend that there’ll be more cars on the road so that means double demerits & an increase in fines. That high beam issue you mentioned happens all too often & as anyone knows, switching to low beams is a common courtesy that we all should be doing as “high beam vs high beam” is an accident waiting to happen.
….Doing the U-turn is a very dangerous manoeuvre the way you mentioned & cops must usually inform drivers or offenders that their conversation/s are being recorded on body cam. In the situation of the video, like you said, how would you know on a dark night if the person you’re “flashing” is a cop if you don’t see the flashing red & blues??? Many cops do it for REVENUE while others will say “SAFETY”…. HOW CAN WE WIN WITH ATTITUDES LIKE THAT??? 🤔🤔🤔

It shouldn’t matter if it’s a cop or not with high beams on. It’s still an offence to have them on so close to roger traffic, so the cop was breaking the law before the other motorist flashed their high beams.

This is a great reason to have dashcam. You don't say you have it, just take it to court, show it and get it thrown out then have the cops charged for creating a dangerous situation, false charges and police entrapment

My husband was a VicPol for 10 years, part of that was highway patrol. I just asked him the questions. He answered... "I would have dipped the lights and apologised." And.... "Revenue raising at its best." Cheers Shane..Ausgranny 🇦🇺🇦🇺🤶👍🚛

Many years ago - 90's vintage. Old highway through Gympie in QLD. It is 3 am and going down a hill, fully loaded with hanging meat. 60 kph zone, no jake brake as in residential zone. I got lit up by constable and naturally enough I stopped. "Clocked you at 63" he says. You can imagine my reaction to this but never the less he issued me with a ticket. On my return journey I stopped at the Gympie Police Station and spoke with the Station Sergeant. I drove Brisbane / Moranbah twice weekly for many years and knew most of the cops. After some negotiations the ticket was was rescinded. As you say Shane, purely revenue.

This happened to me in Newcastle recently at 1am too. The car coming towards me had there high beams on, so i flashed them with my light bar until they turned there's off. Turns out it was a highway patrol car. They did a U turn and pulled me over and gave me a breath test and then just let me go...

  • @frightenedfreddie

Driver was clearly in the wrong turning their high beams on, even if the cop was being an a$$ with their high beams. They gave two flashes and should have left it at that, though this is also likely to break the "lights must not be used to dazzle other road users" clause.
I learned long ago that cops are not your friend and should be treated as any other potentially dangerous people. Avoid drawing their attention.

Lovely to hear from you again Shane. It is just rude, that is my opinion. The cop should have realised what they were doing was affecting the safe driving of another motorist on the road. Everyone worships the great almighty dollar. Love from Queensland. 💖

Drive interstate as well mate. All too often this happens, most police officers I find are very reasonable to deal with with the exception of revenue raising. Quotas are the go for that minority.
Not to mention the highly dangerous position the police man put both of you in.
Back to the Academy would be my opinion
    Cheers

Have you seen that video of the Shelias who got pulled by the Vicpol? Old girls rego plate is “BIRTH” because she’s a midwide of something, but the cops fat, donut slick fingers mistyped the rego and pulled up details for a different car.
Instead of asking a few questions and being relatively courteous with the woman, even considering the alleged offence of false number plates, he forced her, against threat of prosecution, to blow into the bag and also do a drugs test.
In the end old lass showed the cop the VicRoads details of her car, including the number plate, and he left her immediately.
As much as the officer is allowed to drug and alcohol test the woman, it wasn’t part of the “crime” that he suspected her of, so was totally unnecessary, and his attitude was appalling too.

My pet hate when I was in the job was idiots at night who would put the lights onto low beam as they approached you and then as the vehicles closed would activate the high beams before passing you. It was only a $25 fine back then but I did issue lots of them. Sitting on the side of the road, he would have been taking notes of what occurred but, text book traffic stop, he should have had the traffic car angled away to the left to avoid blinding oncoming traffic. The high beams are left on until the officer has safely evaluated the driver/occupants/vehicle. After the offending vehicle had left, he should have put on the low beam .......or maybe he was just an arsehole and was doing it intentionally to see what reaction he would get from approaching vehicles...great to see you back mate.

The two times I’ve been done for speeding were both pretty dodgy.
First was in a 50 zone going down a hill, so obviously I accelerated and “flash” from an unmarked, mobile unit.
Second time was another unmarked unit out back of Mt Isa doing 90 in a 100 zone. I over took him and suffered the consent as the criminal that I am.

I've been driving in NSW for 52 years and can honestly say that the NSW police have been fantatsic - every time I was fined - I deserved it! (but more often than not got off with a caution)
btw I flirted with speed in my younger years - (Wollongong to Armidale via the Putty Road in about 4.5 hours in 1975!? in a Datsun 240Z - I never got fined in that car over 3 years and averaged 80mph every long trip)

Lived in country SA for 35 odd years and learnt real fast that the "high beam" trick is a revenue raising tactic thats been around since the worlds oldest profession. Around town or open highway on any night, there was always a high probability that the arsehole with oncoming high beams would be an instant money ticket dispenser just waiting (begging) for you to tap your high beam switch and then light you up.

I agree, does sound like the Police Officer possibly took his embarrassment out on the other motorist as an infringement. Queensland road rules state its illegal to "Dazzle" oncoming motorists, so, you are expected to swallow the high beam barrage and continue driving.
On the other hand, he could have had one of those traffic cameras that do instant rego checks, and that driver could have had that against them.

Feel your frustration Shane-its just the same with people driving along with NO LIGHTS on at all-just the Daytime Running lights which means no tail-lights etc. The fact that people drive so oblivious as just so frustrating-almost the same as that little white Corolla in the last part of your video which just sat there as the traffic in front moved FFS

  • @rallylout

16 yr olds don’t have common courtesy anymore .. but anyhow, I do the high beam thing… old mate would have been pulled for a random breath test and included a license check and then a warning about the high beams most likely. Depends on the drivers attitude …. And also the mood of the cops.
My brother and I were “interviewed” by highway patrol and nagged about where the turbo was on the car (it didn’t have one) so the technical knowledge of some of them is lacking…
But for the most part, being courteous has elicited the best outcomes …. Warnings instead of fines. There have been exceptions of course but those were few

It's 80-90% about the revenueI and I reckon what you saw was deliberate. HWP are expected to write a certain number of tickets per shift and if they're having a slow one, they'll do whatever it takes.

@frightenedfreddie You're wrong, dead wrong show some respect and it'll come back to you. I've been trucking in four States for 35 yrs and on my last pullover from the NSW HP, he took my licence, went back to his car for checks, came back and said, You're the first one I've come across, you've never been booked. I said, the Army taught me how to drive properly
I loved the Army School of Transport so much I stayed on and became an Army Driving Instructor, it's all about attitude & respect. I've been pulled over many times for speeding but each one says, you've never been booked, gee's I hate to spoil a perfect record, slow down, retire on a clean record, which I did, that includes all licence's, motorbike, car, HC.
Since moving to Qld 5 yrs ago, I've yet to blemish my record here too

Hi mate, long time msg. The government talking about safety on our roads. The New England Hwy between Singo and Scone and so on is absolutely shit! , as its always been like that for a very very long time, but yet, its all about " Safety."
I was heading north early hours of the morning after work from Newy on the Hunter express way, this vehicle coming towards me with high beams on, he wouldn't put them down so I hit him with my light bar and lit him up like a light bulb, sure enough, it was a cop in a cage truck.
Keep up with all the great work that you truckies do. Because with out you guys putting your lives on the line, we would be fucked for products. I have so much respect for you all. I have spent long hours in a truck with my ex father inlaw when he was with Finemores transport, so I know what shit you all put up with. Take care mate, and stay safe 🙏

Yeah mate, it's crap, I had a cop at milmerren fine me for supposedly going 13km over, same style you just explained but on a bike, my dad and I heading to s.a, he is in front of one of those transportable houses when I first saw him he had his lights on the highway pointing to the ground, I noticed my speed was 105 in a hundred when I past him (going opposite ways) so of course he basically pulled a u turn in front of traffic, chased me down, proceeded to rip me apart verbally as if I committed a real crime, I apologised noticed that my speed was 105 & slowed down, he argued I was going 113km, and I never slowed down despite we had past each other on the highway to which I replied I did, I just don't slam my brakes on for no reason mate I took my foot off the accelerator, & again he berated me for not using cruise control, I retorted that I have never used the cruise control before & this is my dads new car (which was true) so therefore I wasn't game enough to jerk around with the buttons when I don't need them. Still got a fine though. Was a prick but wasn't going to get into an arguement as I had my medical marijuana on me, & he looked like a true redneck hillbilly cop

I would put in a formal complaint to the cop station. I would also take it further or to 60 minutes because you see that alot. How many times can a police officer pull someone over for broken headlights, taillights or parkers but will just keep driving along but when it's actually against road rules.
My grandfather was a police officer, he says that police officers now are not like they used to be. My grandfather always told me police are not above the law and that's what some think they are, they should always be held accountable for their actions, especially if they do something wrong.
Also my dad was a truckie, my uncles and my great uncles. 90% truckies are bloody amazing and will do the right thing. With trucks and truckies, Australia stops. 🇦🇺

Did hear one story about a person towing a van who flashed his lights to let an overtaking truckie he was clear getting booked by a cop.
Possible suggestion for a vid. I'm a grey nomad who is not in a hurry to go anywhere typical not exceeding 90 kms / hr with the van in tow.. Understand truckies are on the clock. I always try to do the right thing but I'd like to hear your truckies views / experience

I have had almost exactly the same thing happen to me except the Police pulled over Another Car. Me gives a flash of High beam to oncoming car, he does not dip so as I was about to pass I went to full High Beam so he got an eye full. Then I read POLICE down the side of the car, Shit I thought as his brake lights and all the rest came on. I was in a XD Six cylinder Ford at the time, not exactly a getaway car but I went for it as there was a crossroad just around the bend. I went around the corner as smartly as I could and did not see the cop again. I suspect he pulled up another Ford that crossed the intersection just behind me. I will call it entrapment!

Been a copper for 33 years, probably would have pulled him over to apologise, however, do you know what transpired after the intercept? If this resulted in a ticket, I would be fighting it. The reason they sit on the side of the road is to make contemporaneous notes should the matter go to court.

  • @holgerlubotzki3469
    @holgerlubotzki3469 ปีที่แล้ว

It's actually far worse than most people realise. The use of speed detection technology as a revenue raising tool combined with generally lazy policing means that the road using public are being reverse trained to do WTF they like on the roads as long as they don't do it at more than 5 km/hr over the limit. Just go watch a few clips on Scots Car Cameras or Dash Cam Owners Australia if you want evidence of this.
If the state governments were held to the same standards as businesses and industry are by WorkSafe, they would all be shut down and issued with Show Cause notices for failing to properly manage behavioural safety.

  • @gregorythomas333

If I am pulled over I will give the officer whatever information they require for the ticket...then I fight it in court...arguing with the cops doesn't get you anywhere...do it with the judge...they are the only ones that will listen and they might...MIGHT...actually rule in your favor once they understand the circumstances. I've won several cases against tickets when the cops where in the wrong.

Revenue raising pricks (some of them) but they are working to quotas. They can deny it all they like but we know it’s true.
Many years ago a cop came up behind me with high beams on. I waved my hand in front of the mirror. Still on. I tapped the brake light. Still on. I took the foot off the pedal to let him go by quickly (we were on a long straight now). He lit me up with the candy lights. Wanted to know what the hell I was doing. “You were blinding me!” He didn’t like my attitude so proceeded to look for any reason to write a ticket. Eventually got me for not carrying license.

it is about revenue , 2 weeks ago i had to drive down pennet hills road for work , RMS send me a letter saying i passed two cameras but i was going to different streets in between the 2 cameras performing work activities and the letter implied i was speeding . the secretary for work sent them an email back and their excuse was I should plan my trip beforehand , the fine was $201.00 no demerits . but if you go to court to defend yourself you loose a days pay and court costs . so isn't that revenue raising

If for say if I'm driven towards a oncoming Vehical dark time and they are on high bim and they don't put them down I'll give them a quick flash once and if they stay on high bim i will not flash again because it may cause an accident i will not be happy with that blind human driven that vehical ##u^* but will not flash again instead i will look at that white line in the middle of our road close to my vehicle,
I did this to a Police vehicle once that had there high bim on an that police driven towards me put th lights down ps but only flash once, LED lights can an will blind an oncoming driver so you are at fault for putting yours back up on high him what a stupid thing to do... monkey see monkey do .
