I haven't driven a truck in over 40 years, but I have managed people for over 35 years and the one thing that I do know, is that you don't get anywhere without asking other people, who may know more than you, how to do something. Back in my hotel management days (a long time ago), when I was 2IC, my nickname was shoe laces, as the rest of the staff thought that I was so far up the bosses arsehole, that the only thing sticking out were my shoe laces. It was from asking questions about things that I didn't know that I got made manager after he left and I have always had the same philosophy - the only way that you are going to learn is to ask and I have always been more than happy to share my wisdom (or lack of it sometimes). Even now, after so many years managing businesses and people, I get genuine joy in being able to help young people achieve what they want out of life.

Shane… It shouldn’t be a problem to ask ANYONE for help at a truck stop, servo or wherever when you’re out on the roads travelling somewhere. What’s the worse that could happen… A person says “sorry, but I don’t know” or they say “no” altogether??? I’m okay with asking for help if needed as I’m only human & can & will make mistakes, an ailment we all suffer from. NO ONE IS PERFECT 👍😄

@@shanehastattoos … I’ve met some people who literally think they’re superhuman & claim they can do it all on their own & it’s amazing watching them get humbled when a person they least expect is able to solve all their problems in a matter of seconds ✊️😆. I’m always careful when approaching people for help & am quick to repay them for their kindness. Case in point… I got a tow into a servo today after breaking down & couldn’t get started. I ended up repaying the lady who helped me by paying for her petrol at the servo & her food she wanted also. She tried to resist but I wasn’t taking no for an answer & she gave in. It was the least I could do. I got my car fixed & now it’s all good ✌️😄.. “One good turn deserves another” as they say.

My neighbour's a 67 yr old retired Diesel Mechanic, use to be on call 24/7, He has some bloody good stores. I always pull up on someone broken down, I carry an air compressor and tools, sometimes I can help. I saw a biker pulling over way up ahead and he did the shaking of his bike from side to side, "empty"! Guess who carries petrol for his mowers, and he was stoked. I scored a bag of Mini Jelly Beans. Actually made day, even though he really did get the better value of the deal.

Spot on mate! Never be afraid of asking a fellow truckie for advice or a little bit of help. I learnt so much over the years by doing so. In retrospect, never be afraid of giving advice or an opinion when you see something sketchy going on.....good example was one time on a grain hauling job in pocket road trains, a Calcutta cowboy was told by several drivers that he needed to slow down more when he took the turn off from the highway onto the road which lead down to the silos. Why? Well it was a negative camber on a downhill slope. He told everyone (and I do mean at least 6 other drivers) that thankyou for the advice but I am a good driver and I know what I'm doing.... end result, he put that pocket road train on its side because he DIDN'T take on board the advice that was given.....anyway, Happy Birthday cobba!!!!

When calling blokes up on the uhf to let them know of an issue they may have, ask them to drop down a channel and then tell them instead of announcing it on 40 for the cops to hear.

We have recently bought ourselves our first truck. just a little thing, (ok, so its not a truck, its a massive ute and im 43kg wringing wet and short a.f) but I feel like a big truck driver. lol.... the one thing hubby did was give me a battery starter.... just in case I ever break down and Im alone. I have had to use it, but only when the son has rung and says Muuuuuummmmm, Im stuck... lol. Doesnt matter how young or old you are, it never hurts to ask and asking will reveal something you did not know. Everyday is school day, regardless if you are in school or 54yrs old!...

I will say there's alot of super trucker wankers out there so I can definitely see why a young driver wouldn't feel it would be ok to ask something. Meanwhile tomorrow I've got a trial shift for driving MR refrigerator food delivery trucks. I reckon if I like the MR job I'll just take that since the other place seems a bit hesitant. I do know there are company policies with having passengers.. so I dont expect anyone to bend the rules for me.. and given that im not that socially inclined.. meeting people from the industry has been limited.. Look at a smaller company as most big companies have too many rules to follow, not sure exactly how you'd do it without knowing someone unless you just join a truck facebook page etc and put it out there and someone may be close for a meet up and such, appreciate the like 👍

Happy belated birthday wishes to ya, Shane-o! 👍🏻
I just thought maybe for a future on the road chat video you could tell us your funniest &/or sexiest experiences.
One of my old mates growing up was a local & interstate furniture removalist back in the 90's. He was about 10-15 years older than me & went to the same church as my family. I'd give him a hand some school holidays when he was short on staff locally or interstate. Anyway, he'd tell me funny road stories about his travels. He was a good looking bloke with Scandinavian heritage, and he'd had a few experiences where he'd look down on a car & the chick was going hog wild on herself in her birthday suit in the front passenger side & looking up at him...hehehe
Maybe you haven't had that happen, but maybe you could talk about funny stories in your years on the road & any possible sexy encounters, if it won't get you in strife with the missuz...hahaha
