I been emulating this game a week before release, the surprise I felt when the errors I blamed on the emulation showed up in the switch release is immeasurable.

@@kujaku5469 surprisingly stable bugs. I never got a single crash in the game, and it seems to play better in the computer than in the Switch.

You gotta remember some people have grown up with this model of gaming, this is normal for them.

I especially love how they made unique sleeping animations for every Pokemon just for them to not use them in battle.
It's even worse : since X/Y, Pokémon have their eyes closed if they have the sleep status. Now, they are fucking open and you're facepalming every-time you use Vivillon to catch Pokémon.
That and half the Pokémon are missing "closed eyes" animation when asleep in combat, as well.
Not to mention pokemon actually closing their eyes for sleep status didn't work properly until the recent patch.
They have been a thing since x/y, still no use of them in battle

Video game developers completely threw out the testing phase to cut production costs and let paying customers be the beta testers now. Gamefreak and Bethesda are the ones that are the most blatant about it in recent memory.

The most unfortunate truth is that even with potential future patches, the damage has already been done.
It's just like how you described BDSP's issues. 10 or so years down the line, we will most likely be without internet connectivity on the Switch. Meaning no more patch downloading, meaning Version 1.0 for life, meaning (without a lot of help) we will be stuck with all of the bugs.
Meaning don't buy the physical 1.0 cart, hold out for the inevitable physical "+Expansion Pass" cart that hopefully has the patches on the cart as well as the DLC.

The thing about the Switch though is you can patch Games via local wireless.
So as long as you have someone out there with the latest patch, you can always upgrade the game.
I don't see why you would want this game in the first place, but it's much more convenient than say Playstation or Xbox.
@@Tobunari Not the point, honestly. While you can do this, it is still extremely inconvenient. Imagine 20 years down the line from now. You just got this game, and the online has been dead for a while now. If you don't know anyone around you to have the game (and it has to be the same version, too), and you don't live in a very populated area, finding someone who's got the game and would be willing to meet up for you to download the patch is so much effort you might as well play with the bugs.

Honest to god seriously? Most people playing older games would do so on emulators, not on original hardware. And anyone who _would_ be playing the games 20 years from now on original hardware would be the people who have those systems for 20 years.

-Exp share is still forced making EV training a pain in the ass.
-Battle style options have been removed.
-there is still the dex cut in effect so if the pokemon isn't in the regional dex, you're not allowed to have it.
-breeding pokemon is arbitrarily more time consuming.
-the VS seeker hasn't returned.
Haven't played pokemon since gen 6 and we went this backwards? What in the absolute fuck.
Don't forget some extras:
-You can't even rematch the Elite 4. Sure, you can get Hassel and Geeta in the Academy Ace Tournament, but they don't even use their respective themes.
-The Gym Leaders don't even show up for the Tournament, let alone at all. All you do is re-battle them once and never see them again.
-There is no battle facility nor BP shop/system, even if we've got the Delibird shops.
-The postgame barely offers anything, all you have are Raids, PvP and minor side quests at the school.
-Shiny hunting is now simultaneously a dream and nightmare with the overworld encounter system.

- The framerate is significantly slower than any other game even after moths to patch it
- Changing battle animations has been removed.
- Overworld shinies, while present, do not sparkle on the overworld anymore.

Reminder that Yo-Kai Watch 3 is a monster collector with 752 monsters in one game after all its free DLC that doesn't suffer from as many bugs, glitches or bad animation as this. Way better game easily.
And it's on 3DS, along with Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon which have 807 monsters, don't suffer from as many bugs, glitches, or bad animations as SV, and they also have ya boi Hau!

That's not going to help them.
The issue is how they make the games. It's been proven with datamining and everything that they just build the games off the old ones.
These games were built off of Legends Arceus, which was built off of Sword and Shield, which was built off of Sun/Moon, which was built off of XYORAS, which was built off of BWB2W2, which was built off of DPPtHGSS, which was built off of RSEFRLG.
You can tell because every game's big key items are found in the code from the last generation. Diamond and Pearl had the Eon Ticket, Black and White had the Azure Flute, XY had the Liberty Ticket, etc.
This was done primarily for compatibility because they don't want another Gen 2 to Gen 3 situation again, but at the same time they've since stopped the main reason why people want the compatibility in the first place (transferring their favorites onward to use in the new games) by not programming all the Pokémon in.
So now why do we have compatibility when all it's done is make the games terrible?

Even Kalos Pokémon like Furfrou aren't allowed, which means that collecting the various trims is only available through GO.

And even then, people ignore the flaws of that game.
The Grass/flower assets have a seizure during battle (it's why mandatory battles take place in areas without those assets) models pop in and out of existence, and Shiny Giratina transferred from HOME using Shadow Force causes the game to crash.
The content is so good and different… however the quality…. I literally crashed from catching a Pokémon yesterday… 🤣

Update: So, from what I saw in another video, they're updating the game today to fix several bugs and are actually acknowledging our issues with the games, which is highly appreciated! This is why criticism is very important!

Yeah that's my luxray right there. It's supposed to be dirt, since pokemon can get dirty after they auto battle for too long. But in my case it just loads the texture of whatever pokemon was murdered last.

I always love that, even with all the technical problems this game came out with, many and i mean MANY pokemon fans still say this is one of the best pokemon games of all time. Also, i love when those "fans" use the excuse of "see guys the game is really good, just look at the sales!" Only to justify the quality of the game. And no. Sales does not indicate the quality of any game. If that were the case the FIFA and call of duty games would be considered among the best games of all time. Well, I love the game, there's really no excuse for the shitty optimizations but it's a really fun game with a good story and great multiplayer features to play with friends and for me thats the most important part.
High quantity does not equate to high quality. Not even close for this franchise nowadays.

Game does look and run like shit, but I'd say I've definitely gotten $60 worth of entertainment out of it after finishing the dex today. I do not regret the purchase, even though I am probably as critical of the games flaws as anyone else watching this video. Mainline pokemon is just such a safe pick and I wouldn't want to skip a gen and buy a different $60 game I'll probably barely touch, which I've done plenty of times. For example, I bought P5R in October and have 5x the playtime on Violet already. The only other Switch game I have that can match the playtime I had on Shield was BotW, and I've owned pretty much every AAA Switch game.
7 months later and I STILL cannot fathom how tf they launched the game in this condition and it sold 10 million copies in 3 days. This should be illegal

I like to imagine these glitches are breaks in reality due to the existence of paradoxical creatures like Koraidon and Miraidon simply living in the present and unintentionally messing up reality
I got a glitch that I recorded when one time my character got placed where the enemy pokemon goes and I proceeded to get murdered by Koraidon.

I think a good comparison of the Pokemon series would be bread.
Gen 3, i think, would be a plain bagel. An empty canvas, but that's where third-party customization comes in. Everything seasoning, cream cheese, butter, change the type of dough used, etc.
Gen 6, the bread has lost some color and flavor somehow, but it's still bread.
Gen 8, half the loaf is raw and the other is burnt.
Gen 9, they just straight up handed us raw bread dough with clumps of flour visible.

Thank you. Sword was the most boring Pokémon game I've ever played. It was the first and only time in my life I lost interest in playing a Pokémon game halfway through. My last save is in the middle of some random Gym - I don't know which and I don't care. Anyone who suddenly likes that game is just a serial bandwagon hopper.

The only thing I miss about Sw/Sh is my Linoone, Bandito. I'm not ashamed to admit I'm attached to my little friend.

One thing I don't get is why people can't just enjoy the game without ignoring actual problems it had at launch. The amount of copium people have when defending these issues is astounding.
Yeah, agreed.
Because the mindset seems to follow: You either like Pokemon, in which case there are no problems and the game is perfect. Or, you hate it, and thereby any and all criticism is invalid.
I started off rather disappointed by these games, but the more I played, the more it ramped up. But it's impossible to deny, these games have major problems. Anyone who says otherwise is in denial, but that doesn't mean you're not free to enjoy what you want.

Granted Scarlet and Violet are undoubtedly worse.
I argued with someone about how the plant assets have a seizure when in a battle and that in the mandatory fights there isn't additional plant assets around. Guy literally said that oh GameFreak did a great job optimizing it because if that. If GameFreak did such a great job they wouldn't need to set mandatory battles in featureless terrain.
I get that Legends Arceus is the "golden child" but it doesn't even account for a Shiny Giratina using Shadow Force and crashes the game if it attempts it.
@@Tobunari I wouldn't say Arceus is perfect, it has it's flaws. But in terms of what it accomplished, I do feel it is the proper way to proceed. It just needed more time, and more polish to have all the issues worked out, and maybe incorporate a multiplayer component separate from the main game.
Scarlet and Violet did learn some things from Legends Arceus, but it's got big shoes to fill, and it's rushed launch left it feeling in a sad state. If they'd just held it back a year, it probably wouldn't be in the glitchy, awkward state it's in. But they absolutely refuse to do that.
@@Kohchu They've been releasing games in November for nearly a decade. They should know th time frame of when they release games. It seems less rushed and more that this is just how they make games.
Also, I wouldn't say Legends Arceus would be the proper way to proceed. It had its own direction that fit the best for what it did: it made sense to catch Pokémon without battling them because the Pokédex would've be complete with just one specimen caught. And Legends needed more NPCs to battle.

I remember hearing an argument that Pokemon being the world's biggest media franchise is a hindrance moreso than a boon that grants them more resources. Because of the fact they're so big, they may be encourage to rush games and pokemon out the door on constant cycles in an attempt to constantly garner public interest and attention, which means game quality will fall by the wayside on a technical level.
Not sure if this is REALLY the case, but it's interesting to think about.
So far I'm really enjoying how co-op works in this.
