  • James May is back in the bunker kitchen and this week he's making a slightly odd sandwich. You suggested bacon, banana and peanut butter, and once again James is obliging.

    This sandwich has a 50% chance to give you enough energy to get through the rest of the day without eating anything else and 50% chance to knock you out immediately. And if you roll a natural 20 you get picked up by a record label and become the most legendary rock and roll artist of your time

    "Grilled cheese" with roast beef and sautéed onions (I prefer red onions, but your choice) in it. Sautee the onions, once done you can choose to warm your roast beef a bit. Butter the bread on one side only, add a few slices of your cheese (my preference is pepperjack), then layer in the onions and roast beef. Proceed with making your "grilled cheese."

    Hello there, technically the sandwich was reasonably well built however... there's one miss step and that is the butter spread, the right way is build the sandwich without lurpak, what you do is add the lurpak to the pan with the bacon drippings and then you toast the sandwich in the pan on both sides until golden brown. Cut it diagonally and enjoy.

    • @hamah0y1
      @hamah0y1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      You are so close. The lurpak can work, but there are other issues. First off, his bacon was not crispy enough. Bake in a 350 f oven for 25 mins (obviously I gave away being American but let's face it, this is an American sandwich.) On a wire rack. Bacon goes against the lurpak with the banana in the middle. Also , the banana needs to be thinly sliced longways, in thirds. Smooth peanut butter was the right call. After all of this, a VERY thin layer of mayonnaise must be placed on the outside of the bread, and then pan fried like a toasted cheese.

    1) slice an apple into thin round slices
    2) Toast 2 slices of bread, butter it while it's still hot so the butter melts
    3) lay the apple slices on the toast, and very lightly drizzle a small amount of maple syrup on top
    4) carefully and lightly dust (you could use a small seive, I don't) cinnamon over the slices (you can do this in layers if you want a couple of layers of apple).
    5) add the other slice of toast, slice in half and enjoy.
    It's like having a wee apple pie for breakfast/ lunch. 🍏🥪

    The key to this sandwich is, once assembled, to fry it in the rendered bacon fat and serve warm. Also use a ripened banana so it will be sufficiently sweet and mushy. The juxtaposition of mushy banana, crispy bacon, smooth peanut butter, and crunchy bread creates a glorious amalgamation of heterogeneity. Honey optional.
