Hey, I'm super new to pulley swapping and stuff, I was hoping you'd be able to help me a little, I have an old craftsman and wanted to use it as kind of a tractor, but also want it to be a bit faster but still retain some torque, my goal is a like an extra 5-10 mph top speed, I was wondering if you have any pulley size recommendations, one to make your job a little harder... I don't want to have to mod the clutch and idler pullies, again I'm super new to this and wanted some guidance
You can change the front to bigger. Example 3 inch to 6 inch would double your speed. I kinda like to use a 5 inch in the rear instead of the 9 inch, that almost double speed too. The 3.5 inch I used in this video is good unless it gets wet, then it might slip. Good luck and thanks for watching.

I don't know specifically what size pulleys you have or what you should get, it will be something you have to experiment with. Or maybe some one else know more about John Deere L11's than me. the mower deck pulley is NOT that much bigger than the orignial pulley INSIDE the pulley. 2" original pulley drive and 4" blade drive? IF U MEASURE THE INSIDE OF THE PULLEY? yes 2x bigger, a little faster. racing mowers have 8" pulleys to 6" transaxle pulleys... and HIGH HIGH HP engines and can do 60 mph... but they are mostly a racing GO KART with amower body on it. but ... get the 1" weld on thing and 8" weld on pulley... 9" weld on pulley... but that might be TOOOOOO FAST for off road. will have to adjust the back pulley size to slow it down some... start with 6" pulley in back and add OIL gear oil/motor oil to the transaxle as it will get HOT HOT HOT with that bentonite YUK grease in it... prolly wont last forever going that fast. some say the reverse chain doesnt last, explodes, and parts get into the transaxle and really make a mess out of the rest of the transaxle... ruin it. to... the PEERLESS 700 belt to chain drive transmission... a lot of work to get that in there and then solid 1" or 1.25 chromemoly solid... or hollow axle shaft with sprocket and disc brake as the original disc brake is made as a parking brake as dont neeed a brake when going 4.4 mph, kick clutch out, it stops in 4 feet.
I don't remember exactly. I took a string and wrapped it around to get an approximate length. If you like, I can go look and see if I can see a size on it for you.

And stock front
Yes, this one has the stock front set up. thanks for watching.
I can have my lawn mower do that and it's stock, every time you take off in it it wants to pop a wheelie
Impressive, I tinkered with this one and got it up to 44 mph... I am impressed with what they can do. Thanks for watching !
At 7:48 there is a 67 or 68 Camaro in the garage
You've got a good eye, that is a 67. Thanks for watching.
chud327 yep I really like your channel and how you show people how to do it not explain it
That is so nice of you to say, I will keep doing what I do and thanks for the reply.
Hiya what kind of speed are you getting with your mud mower
With the governor still hooked up, it will do a grand total of 13 mph. It would probably do 15ish unhooked. I want to do a pulley swap up front and see what happens, stay tuned... Thanks for watching.
chud327 thank you for your help
Anytime! Thanks for the reply!
what size the pulley???
I used a 3.5 inch, but next time I might go with a 5 inch. The 3.5 likes to slip when wet. thanks for watching.
What's the gear ratio
I don't know, I only know the pulley was a 9 inch and now it is a 3.5 inch. I hope this helps.
how fast is it
I am not sure, it is not break neck fast. I would guess somewhere around 10-15 mph, but maybe not. thanks for watching.
that car a old amc? Pls don't say its a rs
It is a 1967 Camaro RS. thanks for watching.
what size pulley u use
I used a 3 inch in the back. What are you building?
Keep the 3 inch Pully on the back an use a 5 inch on the engine you will get major speed
I was just thinking today of putting a bigger pulley up front. Thanks for watching and for the suggestion.
+chud327 well let me know if you do add a bigger Pully on the engine I made over 35mph on my racing mower
I may have to try it now... i better find a helmet!
+chud327 cool make a video if you do you will go extremely fast
You can believe I will make a video, I already make videos of everything anyways...
You should lock the transaxle
Steve Sam I know, I know, and I'll probably never her the end of it. Maybe that will be a future video topic. I got three or four that need locking. Thanks for watching and especially of commenting.
I’ve got a half inch pulley that I’m bout to put on my craftsman
it won't grip, belt will slip AAAALLLL day, but if you do try it.......i told you so
Logan Kostyal not if it’s tight
@@intotheadventure2592 ur right, it will grip, but it would have to be really tight, and at that point since its so tight anything over half throttle would prob snap it
Logan Kostyal as long as the belt isn’t too big itl be fine
the mower deck pulley is NOT that much bigger than the orignial pulley INSIDE the pulley.
Thanks for watching
what was the top speed?
I don't know, probably 10-15 mph... I will try to check it next time I ride it. Thanks for watching.
Swore on the throttle setup on the steering wheel from bike parts
Neat, thanks for watching!
Hi! Where do you buy the smaller pulley?
Some tractor supplies carry them and some don't. I found this one at a tractor supply. good luck and thanks.
chud327 ok 👌
I’m doing a 6inch pulley on the front and a 2.5 on the back of mine
Better get a helmet... Good luck and thanks for watching.
chud327 thanks and anytime
thank you appreciate it and great video man
You are so welcome! Thanks for the reply and good luck.
Clean the starter😉
Great suggestion and did it, thanks for watching.
I have an old wheel horse mower i got for free and im planning on pulley swapping it it has a 14 hp kohler
That should make a nice machine! Thanks for watching!!
what size belt did ypu use?
I don't remember exactly. I took a string and wrapped it around to get an approximate length. If you like, I can go look and see if I can see a size on it for you.
Its fine bro.im having a belt issue on my craftsman 2 11hp.too much slack.then i bought a 2 inch smaller belt and i guess it weas too short.i might get an 87 inch.i had the 86 inch.the 88 inch is not catching the gears idk.or tensioning to get the transaxle pulley to turn
I have the exact same set up polan pro with a 14.5
Very cool and thanks for watching
where u buy your pulley
Tractor Supply, I think it was about $13. Hope this helps!
Put a 9 inch on the front lol. 1:9 gear ratio.
9:12 the struggle is real
I think you mean 1:12 and funny, thanks for watching.
