- Brian was working on his off road riding mower removing the governor, so while he had it apart we figured it was a good time to go up in size on the front pulley. the back has already been done. then we go on a vw bus cruise with some friends with their maiden voyage 1st drive in 20 years,

Widen the stance (longer axles) and you'll be fine. An old '78 Honda Goldwing GL1000 powertrain would fit a mower nicely. eBay always has motorcycle stuff. I think that the majority of viewers would not realize the skill that it took to do that pully swap. Mustie is a master at making something out of nothing.

About the best part of the machine, the cool way he mounts up. I'd rate the machine higher if he got a set of "slicks" for on-road use, and fixed the other headlight, lol... Still, looks like it was a fun project.

You could use roofing tar on the container. Good thing about those shipping containers is if you do find a hole you can weld it.

The two middle one's drilled 3 times on base one time on up to get tubes "pipes" in ...
The start one's drilled once in the middle for brian, the other two times on the base ...
The ends one drilled on the up ...
Using perforated pipes wheter the middle's ones or back-feed ones,
At least on the upper one, you'll "break" the engine beat ...
Means four triangles, four pipes, an envelope some cuts, drills, and welds works, a bit a rockwhool to absorb "vibration" and you'll have a factory brand new custom made exhaust ...

I towed a pinto 60 miles one time, with a VW bus. When we arrived, the brakes on the pinto were almost on fire. Turned out the idiot in the car, had the brakes on, as hard as he could, for the entire trip, because he was afraid. He even complained about his leg, because he had pushed so hard for the entire tip. Bus never even flinched.

My son told me he had a customer bring their car to the Lexus dealership complaining of a strong gasoline odor. He takes the car to his bay...sure enough..gas odor. Opens the trunk...partially filled gas can.....

Pullies *pull* belts, not push. You can't *push* belts. If it moves up, it pulls the belt up. If it moves down, it pulls the belt down. Therefore: wobble is self correcting.
Yooo is that a 3 speed with high and low? I’m tryna figure out a good pulley set up for mine but can’t seem to find a good combo? I’m running a 5in up front and 5 in rear and only getting 11-12mph

I hate to be a poopyhead but the best part was the dogs. Mower ran like crap, sounded like crap and ended up being just a piece of crap. Put a muffler on it, get it to run and the drive it into a lake.
U need to get a tighter belt cuz when uve done swapped ur clutch is pretty much useless like u want it to loosen a lil bit so it's easier to down shift but if it's loose like stock ur gonna be slipping hella bad mine go 30 single cyilinder
Um, Brian needs to find an old snowmobile. Put the engine, clutches, chaincase and exhaust in that tractor. They go like mad when that's done. Chain drive to the rear. Don't forget a tensioner. It will be a good video too. Hint, hint. Come on, you know ya wanna, lol.
stevenwithanS If you wanted to drag race it maybe, but it’s better to have a gearbox for going through the woods. A two stroke sled motors would load up and foul plugs
You all made that way too hard all you had to do was cut the pulleys in half sliding big one on first slide to cut pully with the key in it upside down weld around the same that way you could use the existing keyway put your center bolt back in perfectly in line anthon take it back off whenever needed to oh and put anti seize on shaft before welding so it will slide back off
How much would you charge to build me a 6.5 pulley for opposed twin shaft
Next time try using a dial indicator on the pulley. Make things easier.

My lawnmower goes 23mph+
Why would you make the rear bigger? If you make the driven smaller and drive bigger the ratio will increase and make ye faster.. if the pulleys are same size itll be same speed.. and you measure diameter and not circumference.. so if you have a 3" pulley on back and front and go 10mph and swap front drive pulley for a 4.5 then youll be able to go 15mph.. ratio of 1:1.5
If you put 4,5 on rear driven pulley then itll be 1,5:1 and only go 5mph.. for every 1.5 turns of the drive the driven goes 1.... other case is every 1 turn the drive the driven goes 1.5...
You could probably come up with parts for a spacecraft Darrin! . Ha

Mustie. I am about to do my first VW 1300 seal job. I have a few questions about sealing. Paper seals are included in the kit for block to cylinder and copper rings for the head. I don't know what should I use. Some channels say not to use anything to seal the engine. What do you recomend?? Also what do you apply to seal the lifter tubes and plastic seals?? Thanks. Andy

You must live near Portsmouth, cuz that's exactly where you were at on that drive with those other busses. I'm from upstate NY, but I used to go to Portsmouth to Bavarian Autosport for the big BMW show n shine event every year with a whole convoy of us bimmer heads and we definitely used to go on drives through that same exact section. Very nice area and good people. Also pretty cool how the NH liquor stores have exit ramps right off the highway. We don't have anything like that up here. I'd consider even moving out there. Nice place. Keep up the good content sir! Its enjoyable.

Hey bud i got a question if u dont mind im working on a budget build i found a riding lawn mower late 70s i cut a hole to mount a push mower engine 6.5 horsepower. Do u think it make any high speed passes ive got it all motor installed with belt pully system still work on but is it possible to get speed from the toro 6.5 push mower engine thank great videos bud
I have never see that done to a lawn tractor good job. Nice to see that 'VW running down the road,nice country and shore line.
Easier to weld a blank disk onto the collar and machine the pulley from scratch, but that's just me. I'm a better machinist than welder. Getter done, Mustie!
Have same lt1000 came with a front bumper, never use it. 2 bad u didn't live down street, would drop off.

Ive had a couple of vdubs flood after their were warmed up and it was too much fuel pump pressure ...I put more gaskets under the pump flange and it cures the problem... nice to have a fuel pressure gauge to help determine if thats it.. have to check those after market parts !! happy buggin !
I did the same thing with my mower. unfortunately, I don't have a lathe, so I fired up the mower and ran a zip wheel in a grinder along the weld until it came free. I cut both pulleys off and put the deck pulley in the drive pulley's old position. luckily there was a shoulder on the tube to square it up. with a bit of tapping, I got it to 18 thou and said good enough.
