Great video, I’m impressed with how you were able to film it all like you did. I would have gotten mad at it and screwed it up😂

Admitting your mistake on camera, gives me hope for you young man. That, combined with learning to laugh at yourself, with bring joy to your life. It took me awhile to learn that. It makes a difference. Keep Learning buddy.

Welding the diff spider gears is ok if you are only mowing the lawn. By doing all that you just made the gears temper harder and brittle and could chip and grenade your transaxle.
There is a way to lock diff without welding or using collar to lock the axle.. now every time you turn the inside wheel will turn as fast as the outside and the excessive torque is all pointing on them welded gears.. enjoy while it last.. I did.... I learned the hard way now I know a better way. Good luck..

a diff should never be locked in corners anyway.. it's pure for strait driving, getting you out of trouble.. now the machine also corners difficult, plus the strain on the gears you mentioned..

That is a very good looking machine! I recommend steel vs aluminum pulley, but again great machine!

    I have a modified LT2000 (2007ish)
I was apprehensive about welding the differential cause I thought it would be impossible to steer. But of you floor it (i have a 5" pulley on the motor and a 3" in the back) it'll do doughnuts and that's kind of like steering 😅
But for real, i welding mine in the exact same manor as you have (i used my Lincoln sp100 with fluxcore) and so far it's held up just fine. Like you said, it's all prep work. 3 hours of cleaning for 3 mins of welding, worth every second of your time if you wanna get anywhere in the dirt, on a lawnmower 👌

My peerless mst 206 is a tad different from yours. Mine doesnt have a reverse chain in it. Its gear to gear and mine is oil filled. Also has 2 recessed spots for sealed bearings. The short fat ones and the tall skinny ones. I just got mine welded up a couple days ago but still haven't put it in my Murray yet. I have a 6" on the motor and a 5" on the rear end and mine goes 16mph. Perfect speed imo. But my question is was yours hard to turn the pulley after you welded it. Its not super terrible with the trans in low gears but 4-6 is a pain to turn. Maybe when I get it in and it warms up itll loosen up and turn easier. Idk. My seals were out in the axle shafts so i just put new oil in it and threw some grease in it too. So i dont know. Any info would be nice. Thanks and nice mower man
