'Wendy' lovely name I attempted to close the window this morning after being awoken by seagulls. 😂 Looking to my left, a breeding pair of bluetits were inches close to me. Quite the lucky timing!
I really love your videos and have learnt so much from them. One question that I haven’t been able to find an answer to is this - how long is the gestation period for a blue tit? And is it true that some clutches can contain eggs/chicks with different fathers? Hope you can help/answer - and thanks for all your wonderfully entertaining and educational videos. ❤
So Not 100% sure on this ! However, what I've seen is that the females tend to mate everyday they are laying the eggs, which makes me wonder do they have to fertilise each egg individually! As they produce and lay and egg a day normally. As for Nests with different eggs, yes under some circumstances two females can use the one nest !, sometimes a female can be kicked out mid laying by another female and the new female will start laying and raise all chick's, quiet a rare occurrence but I've seen on before online where a bluetit lay eggs and a great tit took over and raised all the chick's, amazing, hope some of this helps :).
@@FionnODonoghue Thank you very much for that… nature, wildlife, birds, etc are all so amazingly beautiful, complex AND, in some cases, mysterious! I’ve recently become very emotionally attached/invested in my own bird box (with camera) which - up until last month - had laid empty for 3 years. I now have a blue tit mum who has just laid her 9th egg and looks like she’s settling down for the incubation period. Thanks to you and your wonderful channel, I’ve learnt so much about their behaviour but feel like there’s just so much more I want to discover about them. Anyway, thanks so much for your reply and I hope that all ‘our’ chicks manage to survive the next few weeks and fledge successfully. 🙂🐦🪺
Absolutely love you content, I have both great tits and blue tits In my bird box, the great tits fledged this morning :( the blue tits eggs are due to hatch on Wednesday she has 9 little eggs, the great tit lost 2 baby’s she laid 10 eggs and only 8 survived and fledged this morning, just wondering what camera do you use it’s so clear and much clearer than mine, I use a green feather camera and it’s not the best. Hope your baby’s come along well and all healthy, hoping you can answer my question thank you.
