    For anyone considering it. The Kai gears are the best bang for your buck. Quality parts, and actual features that no one else has.

    I run the KA gears on my 450 ish whp escort GT, (mazda BP powerd for anyone confused). Those are actually mine on the site there. They are great gears especially if you're running the exhtake mod. But I think they are discontinued as they were a small batch run...

    Where can I learn more about the 36-2 set up not needing any addl sensors when used with MS. I'm looking to swap a 01 bottom end bp4w head into a 93 chassis. As mentioned at about 6:05 in the video.

    Have you looked into the Miata with "Koenigsegg's freevalve" technology on it? Would be super interesting if more people tried improving it and made it viable to use on a daily or something.

      It's wonderful technology, but the cost is not worth it for 8000 RPM maximum. Titanium valve springs would be way cheaper ....

    If you get new cams with high lift and/or duration you can use these to make sure the valves will never hit each other

      On the flip side, if you're running big cams, you may not be able to freely adjust the cam gears without valve-to-piston contact. That needs to be checked before the engine is run!

    You can get the Maruha carbon fibre cover to go over the exposed cam geats.

    I used to undo the cam bolts and rotate the inner gear of one hole, avoiding the drilling step, I lost then the refernce marks but with a degree wheel I found them back.

    Wouldn’t is be easier to just use the adjustable timing wheel to advance timing as a whole? I have a 99/bp4w and bought the 5x racing wheel. Works for all engine 1999-2005 and is only $35.

      You're confusing adjusting the ignition timing with adjusting the cam timing, they are two completely different things.

    It would be worth pulling the head off and skimming it 1-1.4mm to bump up the compression! Great videos keep up the good work

    Any tips on buying used engines? I need a new one because my entire burns oil and has low oil pressure. 33-35 psi @3500rpm
    I see a few engines on Ebay for sale that look okay but they are advertised to be imported from Japan. I am looking for a 1.6L. The ads are weird since they say "1999-2000 1.6L" but thats sus cause miatas had 1.8L after 1998
    Another weird thing is the crankshaft pulley looks different than the US 1.6L engines. I am only bringing this up because I don't want another SNC engine.
    Is there anything I should be weary of and look for?

      Other parts of the World had 1.6 litre engines. The newer 1.6 litres are different than the 90 -93 engines. Just swap in a 94 to 97 1.8 L engine.

    FYI got some BLOX aliexpress cam gears for like 50$ a pair and they have the bumps.. just check they are not too tall and smash the sensor xD

    does piston to valve clearance need to be checked when adjusting cam gears? I've had adjustable on my car since 2003 and I've never adjusted them

    I know this is off topic but I found out today that the Supertech Pistons I put in my car actually needed an upgraded wrist pin, Tool Steel vs Chromoly. Did you do this upgrade on your car? If not, are you concerned about the pin breaking?

    does anyone know if they make aftermarket cams for vvt miatas? i cant find any on google whatsoever. i would've liked to install 264 degree cams in my N/A vvt miata build but i cant find a single camshaft intake or exhaust

    Why can't you do vvt on both cams? The parts just don't exist? Or is there something that actually makes it not possible

      The head, the cam, and oil system are completely different on the intake side of the NB2 engines. You COULD do it but the amount of engineering, precision machining, and labor involved would not be worth the minimal gains.

    Can you add VVT to a non VVT 1.8 and if so what does it take?

      No, but you can put a VVT engine n a non VVT car, but you need a standalone ECU. A bigger set of cams is about the same price as doing all that, and will make more HP than just VVT. The late VVT engines have some useful improvements in main cap design and a few other areas, as well as a higher flowing inlet manifold, VVT swaps into non VVT is a good mod overall, as you have the best block for boost later.
