I ran into door panel clearance issues installing the aftermarket speaker on top of the existing foam ring like they do in this video but the good news is that the foam is on a plastic ring that is glued to the front of the bracket and thats what held the factory cone in place around the edges its about a half inch thick and will come off if you pry on it. Once that ring is removed you have more room to work with and that solved the clearance issue for me
not on this model, the factory speaker is actually built into the door mold. Even if you can somehow take the magnet off and unglue the top ring, you would most likely destroy the speaker doing so.
For those of you videos wondering if you have the standard pioneer system, all of the wires for the upper rear door tweeter are still installed in the car. They are insulated inside a transliscent green bulb-shaped plastic piece. You just have to figure out which wires to splice
But how do you screw the speaker on that thing like that ? That cardboard round thing it’s just glued and it came off and I don’t see a way of screwing the speaker on to that
Great video even though you did it so long it's still help me out cuz I add some new kicker speakers cuz the original ones were already bust up and I did exactly what you did in the demonstration and it worked just perfectly and we add Rockford Fosgate 400 watt amp we had an epic Center and I add an Alpine v-powered from 96 and we're bumping a bazooka
the Manuel say 6 3/4 but can fil 6.5. If it helps, the 6.5 door mount that comes with the aftermarket speakers does not fit the hole in a 2002 lexus es 300. I used this method and it was way easier than it looks. this is by far the best method I found.
I bought an adaptive speaker mount and because of the specific spacing between the door and the glass in the door, this is by far the best method and my speakers were trash any way so I had no problems ripping them out. kudos to this guy.
your better off removing that entire assembly all together, and making your own wooden speaker adaptor ring and 6.5" foam cup. Then attach a new aftermarket speaker to that. The factory speakers in the ES are so bad i would pay lexus to just not even include them

You don't need to cut the speakers out ..they have a star screws under the foam gasket that let's the speaker release from the housing
Under the yellow foam gasket?
There are not any fasteners other than the 3 that attach it to the door or at least not on my 06 es330.
