  • After a bit of a delay, WE’RE BACK!
Our second day in Luxor has us visiting the Valley of the Kings. The Valley of the Kings in Luxor is an area on the West Bank of the Nile river where, for a period of about 500 years, tombs were cut for pharaohs and powerful nobles of Ancient Egypt.
The drive was about 40 minutes from our hotel. Your entrance ticket into the area gets you access to 3 different tombs. I highly recommend the recommendations of the guides available, so that you know which 3 to choose. Our guide, Moustapha, recommended the tombs of Ramses III, Ramses IX and Merenptah.
In addition to those three, you can buy additional access to other tombs which are not included. We purchased the additional ticket to enter then largest tomb-the Tomb of Seti I, and the smallest tomb-the Tomb of King Tut. The former is quite impressive, while the latter leaves its impression in the fact that the King’s mummy is still inside of the tomb.
Lastly, we traveled to the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, which was constructed to legitimize the reign of the Queen, as she was considered an interim ruler, until her 3 year old successor would come of age.
This video concludes our tour of Egypt. But we won’t be leaving Africa, quite so quickly. From here we move onward to sub-saharan Africa-don’t forget to click subscribe to find out where we head to next!
