      i agree zooming in is a big problem, but a solution to that is to have 2 windows open of the same document side by side. @

    I work in a professional dedicated retouch lab, and if you don´t mind, I´m gonna say a few things.
    1- we never use the whole picture (duplicate the background layer) as a clean layer. You´re adding size and consuming RAM memory for nothing. Just use simple empty layers; as many as you need (and name them). The only exception is if you need to use the patch tool for some reason.
    2- the first round to clean the skin should be in one of those empty layers (clone and healing brush) and not on the FS process. Imagine you need to correct someting with the mixer brush and in that spot you need to clean dust or any kind of dirt, that dirty spot will contribute negetavly to the blur color effect.
    3- You are absolutely right that for a perfect skin, we use just D&B. And for some reason its called Micro D&B (and not "local"). The reason being that its done on pixel level. You have to be constanly zooming in and out to get the whole vision, but its done "pixel by pixel" with a much smaller brush. You should go to the properties and set Shape Dynamics and Tranfer to Pen Pressure. Ah...usually it takes 2 to 3 hours (and not 15 minutes :) )
    4- When setting the help layers, why use a 50% grey BW? a simple BW layer is enough. You can use a contrast help curve and be constantly adjusting it, or simply drag it down...and disable it in the darker areas.
    5- Global D&B its done also using curves. Adding as many as the diferent parts you´re accentuating - because each one will have their own oppacity and point position of the curve. This way you should have a diferent curve in the face, another one for the torso, one for the background, say another for the lower part of the body, etc...
    6- On color gradding, each one does it their own way. Using Selective color is very good. But if you´re color correcting the skin tones...mask it to the skin only (so you don´t affect the rest). You adjusted the cyans and imagine your client had blue eyes... You would be affect them. Its a matter of routine.
    7- Glow effect is awsome if you do it on Color dodge blend mode in an empty layer filled with black; just paint white or any color you want with 2 - 3 % flow. Try it :)
    8- -2 vignetting is unnoticeble... More in this image that has the cornes dark enough
    9- The are 5 specific blend modes that behave diferent to oppacity and fill. The Normal blend mode is not one of those.
    10- For a final comment, just to say that there is a fabulous thing called "Fade" (Ctrl + F ). It would have done you a lot in this specific tutorial. You can just fade your last brush (for example) without having to mess with oppacity and affect the whole layer.
    Hope this was usefull for all.
    Keep going!!

  • @coolsti27
    @coolsti27 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you so much, a very well done, informative video. I am wondering about a few things though. You make quite a bit of color/luminosity adjustments using two selective color layers, but then you go into camera raw and make a great deal of additional adjustments including to the colors. Is there a reason for adjusting in both places, or is it just how things turned out? I am also wondering about the tweaks of the calibration sliders in camera raw. It would be nice to have some words about what effect you are looking to get with these, as opposed to the HSL sliders, split toning, etc. I also play with calibration a bit, but I tend to shoot indoors without flash and so I sometimes need to make some radical adjustments for the colors. :)

    Do you find that the 400W is enough for lighting outdoors? I am trying to get into more OCF with my photography and do alot of shoots outdoors, during the days and things.
    Some people I see use 200-400W and then others I see use 600W+ strobes for their shots.
    I am on a budget somewhat, so I am looking at the Neewer Vision 3 and 4 as starting options for some more powerful OCF.

      @EliInfante  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      400W is good enough unless our shooting midday. You will be shooting at full power.

    I have a question 🤔:
    why u use Curvs layer for d&b and don't use D&B 50%gray layer? 🤔
    and about the zoom in for retouching I make 2 window, first on 50-70% zoom and second on 130-160% zoom, I think is a good option 😇✌️

    • @EliInfante
      @EliInfante  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Eli - I’m a fan from Corpus. Do you think you might put out a video that talks through your Sony custom settings and why that set-up works for you? Just switched to Sony and looking for some help from folks like you, Francisco, and Keydrin. I’d write to Francisco as well but it sounds like he and his family are going through a challenging time con la suegra.

  • @alexanderivanoff

    Nice one, with proper workflow, but too many excessive steps, like the actions in ACR - all these could have been done initially in C1, as well as tweaking the skin tones to look great in C1. The skin tones in the "Before" were too greenish (again, this is where the powerful skin tone editor in C1 comes into play) and in the "after" they turned too reddish-orange, but this is strictly a personal thing :) Keep up the good work and enthusiasm, Eli! :)
    P.S. One more thing - noise/grain must be added at the very end of the workflow and not using high pass or any other sharpening over it. :) Cheers.
