I was at work, literally typing into the TH-cam search bar for tips on retouching and this man posts this video. I felt like it was specifically for me lol. Thank you!!! 💕
I will write the steps for you. 1. Duplicate the background layer twice, name the bottom "Color" and turn off the top. 2. Convert the "Color" layer to a smart filter, then apply the Noise > Median filter to smooth out the skin, adjusting it until it's balanced. 3. Create a new layer for texture, set mode to Overlay, fill with 50% gray, and convert for smart filters. 4. Add Noise (around 30%, uniform, monochromatic), then add Gaussian Blur (around 1.8) for a realistic skin texture. 5. Turn on the top layer, apply a High Pass filter with the same radius as Gaussian Blur (1.8), set blending mode to Linear Light, and group all layers. 6. Refine with Blend If sliders to protect highlights and shadows, then apply a black mask. 7. Use a soft brush to paint over areas where you want to apply the effect; adjust layer opacities if needed. 8. Record these steps as an action with a shortcut for faster future retouching. Adjust settings per image as needed. Thank me later
It amazes me how you develop such simple yet powerful techniques. Your PiXimperfect Pro course is incredible and worth every penny. No wonder they call you the Photoshop GOAT.
Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to teaching. As a wedding and portrait photographer, I’ve learned almost everything I know from your videos. You have a unique way of explaining complex topics with both humor and passion, and I truly appreciate it!
Awesome, thanks! As you said, the result isn't the best but it's sooo convenient when a more precise and natural retouching isn't required. It's gonna be such a time saving action. Also, I'll be able to fine tune my existing actions. Thanks again!!
This, once again, is fantastic work, Unmesh! Clever! Question: how well does this work when there's lots of other elements in the background (e.g. the person is surrounded by leaves and branches, or other textures in the shot that make the facial edges harder to see? Will first selecting the subject help control the area you're painting in, i.e. to stay "in bounds"? The examples seen here have faces that easily stand out against the background, so wondering how much of a factor this is. Thank you so much!
Brilliant, as ever. But you are so slick, my dodgy old brain can't keep up. If only you had time to write a book! That would be manna indeed. Thanks for all of your tips, tricks and tutorials.
Great vid! Scandinavian keyboards dont have shortcut for choosing layer up or down [ and ]. Is there a way to select the layer benith without a shortcut or that function will not work with non US/EN keyborards?
go to Keyboard shortcuts and menus and make your own shortcuts 4 that. Doesent matter wich keyboard you use. Personaly, I use german, and I made my own shortcuts for most SC.
@@Bojadza hi! I have the same problem with my keyboard and I couldn't find the layer panel shortcuts to change them in the sc edit... do you know where they are?
@@ricktwice2205 under keyboard shortcut and menus, search for layer, from shortcuts for: choose TOOLS, and you will find 3 opt. Second one is "Show previous Layer Bounday " and shortcut is [ - change it...
I would really love it if you did an extensive in depth video about retouch4me’s FS plugin. There isn’t much about it on TH-cam. I’m a longtime follower, love your channel.
I really wish you would state what versions of PS are required for something to work. 11:07 why do you stop recording the actions and select a different tool?
he already had the brush selected while recording the action, but he wanted selecting the brush to be part of the action. so in order to do that, he stopped recording, picked a different tool, then started recording again and selected the brush. this way, selecting the brush is part of the action.
Unmesh, I have a question for you: When I apply the action to the image I download from your link, it works just as you show. However when I try it on other photos, (high resolution close up portraits) it doesn't work and I wonder how we are supposed to adjust the filters according to each image. I tried to play around with the values on gaussian blur, or noise or high pass, I couldn't get good results. Could you please explain? Thank you.
The tutorial is great, thank you for that but when i use action for another picture, it became worst. So this action can only apply to some kind of picture like your example or all of kind of picture ?
interesting technique. slight problem: there is no bracket key on standard european mac keyboards. a script is needed to go a layer backward... but with it everything works fine... thanx.
Excellent tutorial! I still haven't watched the "High End Skin Retouch" though and I need to. However, I must have missed something. I set my shortcut to Shift f12 but when I hold shift and press f12 I just get the volume control which would be just f12. I have the "shift" button clicked when I made the action. What could have gone wrong and, can I add the shortcut after the action has been made? Thanks in advance.
@@PiXimperfect I'll give it a go next time I try. I have another concern. On your downloaded images to work with, this procedure works really well. On my own images, it made the subjects look dirty and didn't do as good a job on blemishes or wrinkles. I'd be glad to send you the images to see if your results differ. Frustrated. I did download your images to learn with and the method works flawlessly but on my images, not so much.
