Love the fact you went there in winter with no leaves on the trees so I can see surroundings better. I’m headed there next looking for location of old cabin near that cave. Where it stood down by the creek near the cave. Metal detector

Never knew about the cabin. Those fellas had quite an impact on the local area. Thanks for watching and commenting. Good luck in your explorations my friend!

I imagine them hanging out in the cave discussing the loot and deciding we should get some supplies and build a cabin... right over there, near the cave 😎

Awesome! Ive read about the Doan Gang but didn't realize the cave was on public land. The next time I'm back home I'll have to take a drive up to find it. I can tell where. you're from by the use of the word "crick"....Go Birds!

You found another interesting place, Gator. Liked the bridge and the cave (and I'm not a cave person!) The shrine was moving... and as always your filming of the moving water is so realistic. Thank you for this adventure Gator.

This was my 3rd attempt at finding the cave and first successful one. Interesting to think about the possibility of real treasure being stashed in or around there, though it is probably mostly just legend.

I very much enjoyed this video. I knew I had "robbers" in my family in the distant past from my Grandmother Doan. I just learned, recently, about just how bad they were. I have found it super interesting and have more information for my Geneaology search now. Thank you for uploading this!! This is a beautiful area and reminds me of the area I grew up in. My husband, RIP, was from there, and he told me how beautiful it was when he lived there. So cool.

They weren't bad. There is a Doan/ Doane association. Check into it. Great history that you should be proud of, Doans / Doanes came over on the Queen Ann and married into the Hopkins that came over BEFORE the Mayflower. Hopkins was at the first Thanksgiving because he was the 'Indian expert.' He had great relations with the Natives and respect. Get involved with your heritage and don't be ashamed of it.

My Dad is the head of the Doan Association. John Doan. You have no idea the history. If you want to do your cast right, do your research and talk to people that know the history.

Incredible. Based on the description of the doan boys I must be related. Plus being outlaws. 😆. My brother and grand pop are John doane. From Philadelphia

@@angeladoan2806 Do you go to the reunion in Michigan every July? Just wondering. My Grandparents and family members always went every year. Actually they were traitors acting in behalf of the British.... I'm proud of my Doan/doane/dun background going back prior to the 1500's....I do have an idea about the history...please don't assume we don't. The Doan gang were my Great uncles x 3. That's nice that your Dad is head of the Doan Ass'n. I'm in my 70's and have all of diaries with the history that belonged to the family...the Doan's. I think I know how to do the research...been doing it when you were a twinkle in your Daddy's eye.

An American historical drama television series about the Doan Outlaws, America's Original Outlaws, is currently in pre-production as of August 2019.
A documentary and preview to the narrative series America's Original Outlaws wrapped on December 7, 2019. The documentary explores the many Doan legends, including the discovery of a previously unexplored Doan cave and hideout. It is currently in post-production.
(1750 is the arrival date of Hans Michael Wismer in Philadelphia, 270 years ago)
The record indicates that Moses Doan was killed along the banks of the Tohickon creek August 28 1783......about 1/2 mile from the village of Wismer. It appears that Abraham Wismer assisted with the burial. I am Ryan Wismer his descendent 237 years later, though I believe Hans Michael Wismer was the first Wismer arrival 270 years prior to me. Ironically, my favorite tavern for years has been the Tohickon.

This is only one of many caves they used. This is hard to find because it’s more a rock shelter. The treasure cave is up river in Durham. Rtes. 611/River Rd. & 212. Center Bridge & Holicong were two others.

Thank you Sheila Anne for that information. Do you know if any of these other locations are accessible to the public?

@@WALTERZOLNA The Durham one is. Center Bridge might be tougher being by the river. Holicong is up the mountain near the church at the top.
