Ive come across little caves like this before and I always wonder who seeked shelter in them thruout all the centuries, wish we could see back thru the life of the cave. You can picture an ancient person crouched in same spot you are, maybe waiting out a rainstorm.

Sully's Rock Foundation is dedicated to helping recovering addicts of drugs and alcohol through education. This organization was created in memory of Sullivan James Burd who died on September 9, 2010 from a heroin overdose. He was 20 years old. During his struggle with addiction, Sully continuously helped his friends try to overcome their own battles with drugs and alcohol. He was wise and talented beyond his years and gave his heart to others. He loved technology, music, playing the bass guitar, drawing, writing poetry, riding his bike and rock climbing. Sully died on his favorite rock at Ralph Stover State Park where his father found him. He died in a place that he loved and felt safe. Sully knew that nature helped to heal him. His wish was to help others conquer their demons of addiction and we are committed to continuing his legacy.

My son has had an addiction since he was 17 years old and he just turned 40. He has ODed twice and was brought back. He has been to rehab 3 times. He has went to jail and even a year in prison. He still had drugs while behind bars. Currently he is out of jail and says he is drug free but who knows? Addiction is a beast that takes your dreams, ambitions and your life. When he was in jail this last time 4 people ODed within a week of being released from jail. And that was just in his block in a month. So many lives are lost to this.

I lived in this area for many years. Stover Park is shale rock, no "real" caves in shale, only shelter caves. The Doans had many hide outs. There are people studying their history in the area. One true cave was recently dug back open. Do not ask where, as it is on private land and confidential.

When we were in high school we had a doubled-up rope with knots in it that took up the entire back of a van we would walk up to the high rocks throw it over the edge and put our leather gloves on ready for a fun climb. The rock-climbing guys would tell us we were crazy and we were not well equipped we would always say "what am I going to let go of the Rope" hahaha so young and crazy we where.

Couple of things: Doan's Cave is not in Ralph Stover SP, it's on Haycock Mt, on private land. I found it over 35 years ago but didn't have the equipment (or knowledge of the history then) to explore it fully. Contact me if you want the exact location and how I know it was Doan's Cave. You'll find it...interesting. To put it mildly.
Also, that albino cannibal nonsense wasn't on Haycock Mt, that was on Ghost Mt in nearby Pleasant Valley east of Rt 212. There was indeed a family of albinos living there in the 60's-70's. They were a little weird, but not cannibals.
LOL! No more than any other white folks, any way.
I was told one of the dogs in the original 'Lassie' TV series is buried up on Ghost Mt. That, I don't know for sure is true.
Cool vids, man! Thanks for sharing!
