    How ironic. I was at a seminar last week on the Doan gang. It was hosted by Washington Crossing Park. Two speakers representing Mercer Museum of Doylestown, Bucks County. They will be opening a display in spring 2024 covering the history of the Doans. Looking forward to the rest of your series.

    Some historic events may not be the most popular or desired, but not telling them would definitely stand as far worse for no one to learn.

    It is generally believed that a full third of American colonists stayed loyal to Britain during the Revolution with one third wanting independence and the final third not taking a side. This is the first Quaker criminal gang I've heard of and I wasn't expecting to ever find one. Live and learn.

    My 9x and 8x great grandparents farms were in Plumstead at that time. They were German Lutherans not Quakers though. I’ve often wondered if they knew or had run ins with the Doan gang.

    The doan cave is very small in ralph Stover Park. Maybe 6 feet deep. 3 feet high.

    Your on your way to Peace Valley Park on New Galena Rd, You cross over Callowhill Rd. Right where the circle entrance ends is a tiny creek. If you follow the tiny creek north you'll find a cave. there's no place to park and it's a walk n a half to get back to the creek site. At 77 with bad legs I'll pass on exploring it.

    Native Bucks County dude and quaker here. It’s bizarre these fellows had a nefarious side, as quakerism (like all religions) denounces violence.
    A neat trip for you might be visiting the Buckingham Friends Meetinghouse, built in 1762. The glass panes are original and have bulges at the bottom due to time and gravity. There’s an awesome cemetery attached, naturally. I live in Lambertville, would be neat to help you out or join you. This was cool. Thanks!

    Great history lesson Cliff, the winners always get to write the history. If you pick the losing side.........Well (I think) the saying goes............"one countries patriot is another countries outlaw/terrorist". The colonies won against the British so.................

    Interesting video. If you think about it, the American Colonies were actually British Colonies. So, from the British point of view, everyone who was fighting against the British were outlaws who were fighting against their own country at the time.

    I grew up on these Doan boys stories. Story's from the old timers were great. Moses Doan's rife is in the museum in Doylestown pa. Ja when I was young we use to frequent the said Doan cave. Not very big back then. The Doan family farm still exists on Stump road close to 413. ja they knocked over the Newtown bank by holding the bankers family hostage while the others with the forced help of the banker cleaned out the funds.. Was said that a young Moses would hang with the Lenape tribe upper Delaware river around Kernersville pa. Alright enough for now

    I read somewhere years ago that many of the Hessians stayed here in this country after the war and married becoming Americans. I always wondered how true that is.. All my family who fought in the Civil War were rebels, and they took up arms against the United States. The good ole USA has been very forgiving.

    Well the only thing that I have to say about this is their ancestors at some point came to this country from some other country I don't know if they came from England or not but then they want to be loyal to England?

    • @fyrdman2185
      @fyrdman2185 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @junepearl7993
    @junepearl7993 ปีที่แล้ว

    At the time of the American Revolution, England was not a democracy. It was ruled by a king and aristocracy. Since the colonists were fighting to establish a democratic republic, I would say the loyalists were wrong. Even England is a democracy today. As Churchill reportedly said, democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others.
