I agree. There are already many many posts in the TH-cam Forum asking, "Why has my monetization ability been disabled?"
If it weren't for the contract I would have definitely signed up for partnership. But on a less serious note, the puppies really cracked me up. Good job!
Yes, any user can upload a custom background. TH-cam did remove Transparency, so you only see the right and left side now.
Gideon, as I understand it, TH-cam has worked hard at making sure the "system" is scalable.
Oh, yes, iLife music it is royalty free, it says so in the Apple terms of use, you can use it for work you are commissioned to do and so, but some nasty people are using some of the iLifeTunes, adding a bit of remix at the beginning and at the end of it, letting the main part of the tune remaining as it is in iLife, and copyrighting it. Then, when you use that original iLife tune, the same one they used and remixed and copyrighted, they claim it is their music and YT believes then, not you.
Your voice's so soothing I can literally play it as background noise and enjoy it.
I was getting "monetisation" emails on vids that only had 3 or 400 hundred views in the early days, then after about 6 of those emails they enabled it for the whole channel ... I applied for Partner program about 2 months ago once I hit 100k views. Amazing how excited one can get about a thumbnail upload button ;)

There are some major TH-camrs with that function that miss use it.Misleading pictures to boost view ship. So hopefully us little guys will also have the function in the near future. Keep up the great videos Gideon,They are much appreciated. :-)
One of the biggest benefit of becoming a partner is that you can put a direct link on top of your youtube video directly to an asset that you control like your web site or blog or your social media accounts.

Now TH-cam is becoming commercialized,with adding the Adsense ads. Its like when Cable TV first came out there was hardly any commercials now they are like the big 3 network stations with 3 to 4 minutes of ads... But there is value as long as TH-cam is free to get your message past on... Thanks for the info

Create a completely new Google account (different email) with the correct information and create the AdSense account on this Google account. Your TH-cam channel and your AdSense accounts can be on different Google accounts.
And to clarify, the new April 12th partner program that Gideon talks about in this video is available in 20 countries.

Hi Orlaquirke- I've used 3 resources for my audio. My intro audio is from shockwave-sound and my outro audio is from Garage Band (Mac software). I have also downloaded but have not yet used audio from DigitalJuice. Once you purchase the music, the license allows you to reuse their music on DVDs and websites without royalties. -Ron
This is great news as I have a few TH-cam accounts. One is already the old school partner enabled and the others were enabled for the monetization before this Announcement, but I would definitely love to have the thumbnails/extra branding etc and the ability to schedule my videos to upload on certain days like my main TH-cam partner account can. It certainly seems like TH-cam were gearing towards this change as they could now get rid of the junk and spam now that more revenue is at stake!

I have been a partner for a year now and it is not that easy to upload videos you can monetize, the copyright issue gets in them even when you are not using copyrighted material. I have a video with only iLife music and I got a copyright strike, I claimed I had the right to use the copyright free material but the strike was not lifted by the company acussing me. And TH-cam does nothing, the partner support just ignored my enquiry and sent me a lot of links that didn't help the way I was told.
this looks like a way for youtube to create customer loyalty in the face of other video hosting sites that are now competition that youtube never had before

The limit has been 15 minutes for a long time. And any user can approve their account and gain longer uploads.
Currently, the TH-cam Partner Program is only available to users in Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Colombia, France, French Guiana, Germany, Guadeloupe, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Martinique, Mayotte, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Philippines, Poland, Reunion, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, and the United States.
I think this will benefit the established user vs the new user
its actually nice to have the monetizing option in youtube since they show ads on my videos anyway. =)
Thanks for the warning, Heatheronhertravels. I have public domain music that TH-cam says is copyright and now am thinking maybe I need to dispute that further now.
Clearly, 100% self-created content is best for monetization. What is required is "commercial use rights" for all content in a video. Meaning you need a license (expressed permission) to use any content that is not your own.
Lol, yes, another of my little experiments. I had my book printed so it's fun to get it out to local people that way. Would be fun to get together sometime, will keep you posted when I'm down that way or let me know if you're near Noosa:)

BTW to everybody, I'm a partner and I can choose my own custom thumbnails. You just have to go to the video manager, and then you go to your video and under the
pre-chosen thumbnails you should see "custom thumbnail" written. Hope this helps.
When we had an ad and we receive views, does the viewer need to click on ad in order for youtubr to get view credit???
Gideon, thanks for your great videos, but I think the only videos that can be monetized are those with one's exclusive content, footage and sound MUST be the youtuber's 100% own content, if for instance someone uploaded their kids laughing but there was Whitney Houston singing on the radio or on TV in the background, the video then would not be accepted for monetization. Only 100% ones produced content for footage, images, graphics and sound, any sound ambient or an added soundtrack.
can you have more than one youtube account (channel) to 1 adsense account? (eg if you setup more than 1 youtube channel). thanks, Mark

one slightly concerning thing I saw was the notice next to the videos while the monetization option is being approved:
"Important note: If your video is not approved for revenue sharing, it may be removed from TH-cam."
I presume this will eliminate spammy videos (which would be ineffective for adsense monetization anyway).
no it was quite recently a couple of months ago I tried to make videos that were over 10 minutes and youtube wouldn't let me. it kept saying that I had to verify my account with a cell phone (something I did not have) in order to be a partner, and I kept looking for ways around it and one day I got an email saying i was now a youtube partner, and after that I was able to upload my 41 minute video on sexism in our society today.

Great video. I really dont like how yt did this, ya I think it's great that every body can be a partner but it kinda ruins the whole experience! Those original youtubers did all that work for nothing. But if yt keeps it this way i think they should make it so we have custom branding! Is app reviews considered copy right material?!?

People who are new to this should be really careful about any music they use on TH-cam videos that are monetised with advertising. Some royalty free music is not covered for use with advertising and I've had real hastle with TH-cam picking up music they say is copyright which actually has a creative commons licence, then I have the hastle of providing the proof & then they often leave the advertising on and I believe the money goes to 3rd parties who have claimed the music
I don't have the option of monetizing my videos (YET) in my settings !
It is if you have a legal guardian (mum or dad) who approves
love the ideea that all of us can make money on youtube but...the deal with the thumb nail....i don;t know what to say.....but i think lots of people will use it wrong.....i hate the ideea :)

Yes clearly, but you know that the majority's interpretation will be that they can use third party content in their vids and still submit it for monetization. Most lay people, don't even understand what having a license with expressed permission means.

You forgot to include on your pros that you can have videos longer then 10 minutes now if you are a youtube partner.

Lets face it, they should have either mentioned that a) Only the monetization part is working right now or b) that by becoming a "partner" you will just be a money cow.
I couldn't care less about their money. They can keep it.
The only thing I was interested in was to be able to give me videos thumbnails & to give my channel some flair... If they plan to "upgrade to the 'old' partner's" level, they should have implemented that first. OR should have called it "ad partner". A "Partner" is defined.

The thumbnails are available for everyone now, but I'm really waiting for the branding options! Do you know if the rumors, that say that you should have more views and subscribers to get these branding options, are true, or if it is just a matter of time untill they enable these options for everyone? Please answer this question!
