Ok, so I finally made some time to record a video of my new studio. No fancy editing this time, just some nice and real footage of my office and where I get most of my work done.

This is a great reminder of how important it is to setup a simple, clean looking environment to allow a variety of recording scenarios. I have been playing around with this and enjoying the creative ideas for improving my youtube recordings. Thanks again Gideon for the excellent demonstration.
You've been a lot of help Gideon, in helping me get my own office / studio into proper shape. You've been an enormous help in helping me pick out the equipment I need. Soon, I will be a full time you tube video blogger too! Thanks for all the help, and continue the great work you're doing in helping people like me, to become more skilled at creating and placing videos on the internet.
It is great to see how you set it up. So simple and effective . . . with THREE AREAs! Great design.
I just re-did my desk and made it a stand up desk. I bought some twenty dollar bookcases and popped a desktop on top to them. Perfect hieght and easy to use. I had made a difference in how I do my videos.

Thanks Gideon. All my video gear is arriving now and I'm setting up a larger bedroom in my home as my combo office and recording area. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a studio... but it'll work! It will be nice to have everything in place so I don't have to go through a lot of set up to fire off a video.
Thanks for the tour. Makes it look doable. I've been experimenting with my own space, and from what I can tell the light kit is the most critical part of the setup.

Professional workspaces do wonders for your productivity I had a real neat and tidy work space the beginning of last year, but in the last few months have had to make do with a temporary workspace which consists of a coffee table, the Mrs had eyes for my workspace/room so she can sit and watch the TV lol!
Nicely done Gideon...a clean work space is very nice...I have a small office and need to pair down....6 computers, printing press, server, 5 monitors, DVD duplicator, laptops, projectors, tool box and the list goes on...time to throw out a few items, paint the walls, set the lights up....it's going up to -10 degrees this week so I might just get the press out and into the new insulated shed...thanks for the video and the motivation!

I really love this. I have been surfing the TH-cam, google and even the eBay for the past three nights, using all sorts of phrases and tag words to find exactly this information. It's great to bump into this. I think we are in for the long haul because it's so much what I want any how I want it that it feels that you nicked my idea! Very Nice - You've really thought it out - thanks for sharing your new studio setup. Gave me some nice ideas for my own - even though it's much smaller. For my tele-prompter I have a Toshiba Laptop which can be turned into a tablet by flipping the screen over on the back of the keyboard.

Area Manager, ex-Toastermasters; good way for voice clarity, no umms, etc. One more good suggestions: more light, by putting 'chrome'-foiled plastic on the ceiling above the talent. Bounces light from above, as needed/ directed. Also: hooks on ceiling (microphones, LED lighting, fabric, & hooks on walls for adding rails, 'curtains'. Curtains for light-reflectors, color-changes, sound-deadening (if needed). Ex-audio, hardcopy industries; now moving to A-V areas e.g. TH-cam.
I appreciate your encouragement to dominate my niche!
Awesomeness Gideon. Looks like I'll have to come down & film my videos there. I'm nomadic at the moment, so it makes it hard to have a setup such as yours. I do have a tripod and 4 cams (Samsung Galaxy S II (phone), Kodak Zi8 & the Flip Mino HD oh and another older Kodak camera). A friend gave me a GoPro Hero for Christmas so using that to do video blogs/walk throughs.
Lighting is my main issue as when I'm mobile I have to find a place with good natural lighting.

@GideonShalwick thanks so much for the reply. I love your videos, keep up the good work. I wish I had enough space to have a cool studio like yours! I know about finding a good stand up desk and most of them are really expensive and clunky looking. I have found that my productivity has increased. I feel like I am getting more things done standing up. When I sit too much, it sometimes get in a lazy type mood, but standing keeps my energy up.

Thanks GS for the inspiration. I work with inmates and looking to start a TV Channel that would be exclusive viewed by our population. I want our in house content to look very pro. and if I can come across half as good as what your doing I will be pleased. You have got me very interested in the 60d and the infinite white set up.

Looking spiffy, Gideon. I love my office (very white also!). I love the IDEA of a white board...had one - and admired it's whiteness on a daily basis - but never used it. Have passed it on to someone who does.

Oh wow! Nice layout man! Thats a BIG Whiteboard! LOL You know..I never thought about using a teleprompter..I just talk off the top of my head. I'll definitely look into to for videos that will be on my blog.

I am a MSMM member myself and have just completed building my own studio a week ago. Purchased Sony Vegas 2 weeks ago and waiting for my Blue Yetti Pro to be delivered. Your videos' and report are quality, hope I can get my stuff looking as good as yours :)

Looks great, Gideon. This weekend, my wife helped me move everything out of the guest room so I can have it for my studio! I also painted a wall with a flat white paint to be used as my future background. Are you concerned about having your studio away from the house? I'm guessing it's quite intentional so you can focus on work while at work and on the family while at home.

@GideonShalwick Would you PLEASE do a video on it - "simple setup" sounds good to me, and I really like the out-of-focus bookshelf background.
@GideonShalwick the iPhones are so expensive on this side of the world and I'd have to change my provider, which I can't really do at the moment. I'll check out the lights as I really need to get some lights that can fit in my bag easily and don't let the airport security guys go crazy. I primarily use the iPad now; I just had all that stuff over time. I'll get looking for portable lights.

Good ideas .. useful and efficient .. my concerns would be the overall costs of your professional cameras, lighting and teleprompters … most starting out would find this extreme. On the other hand if you want to come across to your public as a professional than everyone should work towards a studio as yours. Thanks for the tour

@GideonShalwick and @tylerplack I agree with Gideon's one point - practice. When I joined the Toastmasters group I did not realize that I used ahs and ums so much. Once I saw myself on video during practices, wow! I am still not perfect, but the frequency has dropped a lot.

Hi Gideon, in that set up you are able to control the amount of natural daylight through the blinds, in the place where I am thinking of using, the felling is semi clear plastic, which has cloth (light cream) blocking the harsh light, how much of an issue is natural daylight, factoring I have two large light boxes to supplement the lighting? Matt

I don't know if I could set up a dedicated recording area in my house or not because when my Girlfriend comes home from work she doesn't like to see another business place. I might take stuff out of one of the closets though and see about making that at least the recording area because that way I can close it up when she comes home.

gideon, gonna get the Canon 60d so excited about that. q question about the white screen. how come you don't do a green screen and then just change it to white in post production? doesn't the green screen have more capability than does a white screen? thanks and love the videos
Gideon! Your office looks great! I love it. At first, I was thinking "Why put the desk, bookshelf, etc there?" At the end, it all made sense. I think I will redo my office now and move some furniture around.
What is a good alternative for lighting to use? I know you are using the nice quality lighting for videos to shine against the wall and the ones located next to the cameras. Is there a "poor man's" alternative for that? Thanks!

Hi Gideon ...fantastic office! I just set up a studio with green screen ...do you like the white background better than greenscreen? I have a Kodak Zi8 with Audio Technica lav mic for quick & portable stuff and use a Canon 60D for better quality along with an Apex 400 studio mic connected via Tascam to my pc. I never get good audio on the A.T. tho and adding in a separate audio track & synchronizing to my video is always a bit of a pain ...what do you suggest?

Great video Gideon! I've been in video production for 5 years and having my own small office/production space has always been challenging. Just getting involved with TH-cam now. I like the "standing" desk and the way you divided your space. Forgive me if this is repetitious but I couldn't find the info... what type of LED lights are you using? I'm in the market for a basic kit. Thank you!
@GideonShalwick Thanks Gideon _ I like Cialdini too & found a couple of great summarising mindmaps for my ipad. I too love Good to Great but haven't read Eugene Schwartz. I'd say my Top 3 are Peter Senge the 5th Discipline, Philip Kotler on Marketing Management (my uni lecturer sold this to us as the best marketing book in the world. The same one they use at Harvard) and Smarter Selling by Keith Dugdale / David Lambert. (Currently reading The Challenger Sale by Matthew Dixon / Brent Admason)
