I just got around to watching Spiderman on 4k. You were not kidding about the audio track. Holy crap, it's incredible. The scene where Spidey kicks the knife that sticks in the ceiling, and the scene where Green Goblin talks to Norman for the first time and you can hear the laughter echoing throughout the house. I had to rewind and hear it again. The height channels in these scenes are so prominent and the laugh also moves from back right, to top right back, top right front to middle to left top front. The movement is crazy. Super excited about watching Spiderman 2.
I cannot stress enough - the Suit pops in these movies. The 3D webbing looks phenomenal! Also there’s a scene where a knife hits the ceiling in SM1, I swear I looked up at the ceiling. Sony knocked it out of the park with this collection
Absolutely love these movies, got this set and the Andrew Garfield set last year, my girlfriend and I have been rewatching them the last few days in anticipation for No Way Home.
Jealous, I had the 4k steelbook on pre-order but got delayed and disappeared off the release calendar. So I picked up the regular Blu ray steelbook set that came out on time, as I didn't want to miss out completely. To find the 4ks came out a little later but missed it .. I did get the digibook 4ks. So in a way I suppose I have it. ;)
I got this a month ago when it was 30 bucks on Amazon! Been really enjoying watching this on my Sony OLED. Now just have to get a proper home theater setup...
Not a fan of the packaging of this edition. The only reason why I skipped it when it dropped to $30. Hopefully the 4K gets a re-release (regular blu-ray is getting one) so I don't regret my decision.
the legacy 4k steelbook set has better packaging, but it can be pretty pricey since it wasn’t re-released. hoping we get individual releases or a new package after No Way Home
I watched these last weekend and agree, these look fantastic. Some reviews on Amazon complained about how bad and lazy the transfers were and I couldn't disagree more.
I miss the good old days of superhero movies when they were their own thing and not trying to build up a cinematic universe. I'm not a big fan of the MCU spider man movies. I think the MCU has done spider man a disservice in my opinion.
I still have these movies on DVD, and Spiderman 2 is a great box set that includes an artbook and mini comic that the movie was based on. I only watched these recently and was still happy out how they looked on DVD, so I may eventually pick these up on 4K but would definitely need to come down in price.
Got this last year. Absolutely love it. I just wish they would've remastered the editors cut of Spider-Man 3 since it's much better than the theatrical cut.
@@pgFrancisco Yep, it includes the editors cut of SM3 and also Spider Man 2.1 (the extended cut of SM2). Unfortunately, it only includes those cuts on normal Blu-ray, not in 4K. If you want to watch in 4K, you'll have to watch the theatrical versions.
Not including the extended/editors cuts of 2 & 3 is a fail. I don't know why, but studios/labels are completely neglecting uncut versions in 4K. We may be getting better picture and audio with 4K, but we're only getting inferior versions in 4K.
I managed to snag the set awhile back. Yes, the video and audio on the 4K versions of the movies are great. The unfortunate part is, they didn't include 2.1 or the alternate cut of SM3 in 4K. So, for the better versions of those movies, you have to stick with the Blu-Ray. At least those versions are remastered from the old Blu Rays that came out before but I still would have liked to really have a complete 4K set of the entire trilogy. Because I can't really watch the theatrical versions of 2 or 3 anymore.
Agreed. 2.1 adds about 8 minutes but it’s stuff I really can’t do without. I can’t go back watch the regular edition. The scene between Mary Jane & her bridesmaid while they are out of shoe shopping is terrific. Then we get a couple added bits of action during the bank/side of building fight and the train sequence. J.J putting on the Spidey suit is a bit silly but it still works wonderfully.
Cool movies to add to any collection. These movies looked soft when I saw them in theaters back in the day; especially, Spider-Man 1. As expected, 4K wasn’t gonna add much to these movies. If think you’re being too kind in this review. I agree that this is the best version of these movies you can own, but they’re not really worth the upgrade if you have the HD BLU-RAY.
I have this bundle and was watching the first one on my Sonos system, and could clearly hear Green Goblin gliding from above during the fight scene at the Parade
I got this and the Andrew 4K set when Amazon had them on sale. Sony still wants to deny Tobey & Andrew will join Tom Holland in the new Spider-Man film, but I'm sure the prices of both 4K sets will go off the scale once they are confirmed -- that is, unless Sony is about to drop a new (probably same to inferior) 4K set.
I was one of those who got the sale at Amazon! Just re-watched them too for the first time since I got my Standard Blu-ray's. Thought overall really good 4K, but def looked soft at points. That makes sense it was a up-convert from the 4K re-master Blu release. Thought Spider-Man, Spider-Man 3 looked the best. The Atmos was awesome on all of them. In Spider-Man 2 when Doc Ock is in the demonstration you hear the laser right above you! It's awesome! Hope they come back in stock and if you see it at the $30 price snap it up real fast! Great review as always!
Since I love the trilogy, I really wanted to the 4Ks to include Spider-Man 2.1 and spiderman 3 the editors cut, since I already own them on dvd and am trying to only collect movies I don’t have on 4k, so movies I have on vhs, dvd, or blu ray, I don't buy on 4k. So I'm so happy that the 4k release includes those two versions since they give me a reason to also watch the films on 4k too!
Really hope I can get my hands on this set, cause its been one Ive had my eye on for a while. Its kinda funny because when I bought the Andrew Garfield a while back it was harder to find it at a decent price and this set was the easiest one, now its the opposite, but nonetheless fingers crossed for a great deal soon🤞🏾
Great review. Wow 30 hrs of bonus features. Thats great But Does it also contain the commentaries for all 4 films. What's interesting on these commentaries is producer Avi Arad taking so much credit on saving Spiderman. Kind of a blow hard but he was credited on getting Spidey on the big screen.
Thank you so much for sharing that Amazon link several weeks ago. I was able to finally get mine in the mail. It took a little while because Amazon first sent me denture cleaner, ha!
Jeff, Sam Raimi is also the Director of the upcoming Doctor Strange universe of madness movie that features all of the original Tobey Maguire/Sam Raimi villains and will probably feature the other Spider-Men as well.
I thought it was just me but after watching your review it's official lol! I felt like I was watching these for the first time! The visuals were super crispy especially on 2 and 3....and MAN... the Atmos mix is off the charts and super immersive!
Great review with great picture examples very great. I had one question the alternative editing of Spider-Man 3 it only on blu-ray 2k or you can find it on blu-ray 4k as well ?
I didn’t love the sound mixing in the first one, the difference in volume between the dialogue and a lot of the louder sounds effects/music queues is too extreme imo
One annoyance I had with the Spider Man 1 4K disc is right at the end. On the Blu-ray, the audio gets quiet to emphasize Norman's "Oh" before he dies, but on the 4K disc they don't silence the background noise at all. Maybe they wanted to tone down the comedy of it? Idk, but it was always one of my favorite parts and it made it a bit less memorable.
HI Jeff, great review of this set, thank you. I live in the UK and bought the three movies on 4K individually last year. Are these discs the same as the ones in your set and are things like the editors cut, or Spiderman 2.1 only on the blu rays or are they on the 4K discs too? The extended cuts were only on the blu rays in the sets that I have, so I would consider upgrading if the longer versions were on the 4K discs.
I couldn't get through any of the new spiderman movies. This Tom Holland guys just doesn't sell it for me. Tobey Maguire all the way. I did like what Garfield was doing too. But Tobey IS Spiderman to me.
Can you do a video explaining why 4K TV's look amazing at the store and then look MEH when you get them home. How do you get that showroom experience at home?
Those displays are playing you actual 4K content. You can't just take a 4K TV home and think you're going to get 4k watching television. If you feed it 4K then you will see it in 4k. Most television stations are 1080p and 1080i with a little 720p thrown in now and then and 480i.

For all you slipcover savages out there, the UK got individual 4k slip releases for these, I found all three in a local used video store here in the States. Be on the look out!
Been trying to find these sets but been difficult. I just had to get the bluray collections for now to have the movies cause I have old DVD prior to that
Boy, I am sold. Thanks to your good review. I want to get a set. 4K plus Atmos is awesome. I love this trilogy. Tobey was great in these movies. The latest ones are so so to me.
I picked up the legacy collection in steelbook. It has the raimi films as well as the amazing spiderman films. I am trying to have a complete spidey steelbook collection including Venom and the upcoming venom 2 steelboom. The legacy collection has no spine artwork but I found these spine magnets on ebay for a good price. Love these films and cant wait for no way home.
We just got this 4k trilogy and have watched parts 1 and 3 so far. I have been pretty disappointed by the picture quality, namely all the noise.
