That fire start with the firebow was absolutely incredible. It's the only way to truly appreciate the concept of energy transfer and consumption, to see how from friction you're able to generate enough heat to combust wood dust into a little smoking coal, and watch it reacting with oxygen and start growing from there as you add more fuel. The music, tight framing, and slow motion was practically inspired cinematography, you boys really understand what you're doing. It's said over and over in the comments, but the video quality can't be overstated enough, you stand among greats.
Wow this editing was spot on! The changing music, slow-mo shots and cuts for commentary really created an epic story about “Martins fire quest”. Thanks for all the good times!😄

I own 3 or 4 knives in K390, all spydercos, all hardened to 64-65 HRC (police 4 LW, Endura 4, ladybug, and Stretch 2 strait spine). It isn’t so bad to sharpen on a folder with veneve diamond stones. That two step v grind is pretty easy and fast on a fixed angle system my stones were like $11 for the set back in the day, now they are like $60 but give a nice edge on a KME system. Right now I think the Stretch 2 is my favorite, $150 for a fist full of K390 isn’t bad and the ergos are amazing on it.
I’ve learned so much from you guys over the years. I’m grateful for all of your videos that got me through so many hard times in my life. Thank you so much. It means a lot.
I managed to put my knife obsession on hold but you can't take dbk away from me! Have watched every video, the fire montage on this was actually beautiful. Gezellig!
This was excellent and beautifully shot! DBK is the only TH-cam channel that I watch every single week no matter what! As always I love the knives and you guys but the other reason is because every DBK video is a different experience with a very unique feel and vibe. Plus they keep getting better and better as you upgrade equipment!
For those of us in the US, google gives us nothing searching for Messenmacher Simon. However, Messermacher Simon gets you there. (adding in St. Marien helps, too)
There is no problem making tinder with a V edge. The most important thing is being able to maintain whatever edge your knife has, and practice with it. Personally, I'm a fan of a really comfortable handle.
As an amateur knife makers, K390 sounds like a nightmare to work with. Also sounds like a nightmare to maintain. I'd like to see long term comparisons (a few weeks of regular usage/maintenance) of 'super steels' vs more common steel such as 1095, 1084, A1, etc. They're the steel I and other makers use, and tend to be more realistic as EDC or bush tools. Just my opinion. I always enjoy DBK vids, the energy they bring and the fine, fine video/audio production. Much love from Florida, USA.
It's also hard therefore brittle. Not a good steel for a large bush craft knife which is why most knives made from it are folders. It will break when doing battoning.
@@johnsullivan6709 wrong.. it’s quite tough steel, virtually indistinguishable from cpm10v in properties. I’ve made a few out of it 7 and 10 inches blade lengths over 65 hrc both. No complains from clients so far. There’s also no particular problems in working with it. Dulo knives will confirm that as well..
I love the more bushcrafty approach to the video. I'm always looking for some amazing supersteels with increased edge holding and toughness. The heat treatment can make or break the knife, I would like to see on the heat treatments and cryogenic processing.
Great video guys. Enjoyed it a lot especially the fire starting as that take some energy to do but worth that body energy when you get the coal. Again guys enjoyed video a lot. You both stay safe.
Guys, do that bowdrill lose and tight it by hand when it's coiled with the drill, that way you can can adjust grip as you go ... tighter or more loose ...
That knife would be top drawer with a full apple seed grind and a convex edge. I'm not a fan of scalloped handles either. A contoured smooth set of scales with a slight palm swell is ideal. Pretty with excellent steel, just needs some mods. Send one of them to me and I'll tune it and send it back with the adjustments. ✌
I saw Lionsteel makes the T6 in K490, not K390. Do you know how those 2 metals compare? Also, what’s easier to sharpen Cos Lam or Elmax? Thank you for your awesome videos!
Let's see you guys review a simple Tramontina 12 inch machete. It comes dull as ...., but it is basically the best survival knife you can have if it is that one tool option thingy. Dank u van tevoren alvast
I love K390, but only have folders in it. No fixed blades unfortunately. The steel is awesome though. Holds an edge for a long time, and responds well to a strop. I have 3 Spyderco knives in k390.

No point to that really, to take advantage of k390s properties, a coarse 400-500 grit finish is best for this steel.

Depends! In edge retention yes! But it rusts more easily and it's harder to sharpen
