I think I may have actually met the guy at a fishing shop my friends and I used to go to often in Kanagawa. Nice guy! I was really surprised with how good his English was.
Dr Wako, literally learned how to sharpen on stones, while making his TH-cam videos. He has reached an acceptable level but far from professional, wizard or anything between those lines. I know that we all love him and you all are going to try to prove me wrong, but that's my opinion, no matter if people are going to like it or not. Sharpening is all about experience and the thirst to get better. It takes too long to master it and you always learn something new. I also don't agree, with his leather stropping technique. I always suggest to people, to put the strop flat and stable on a table and always go slow and keep the same angle. A couple of degrees off and you dull the edge instead of polishing it. Sorry for my Enlgish. I don't speak English fluently, I'm probably funnier than dr Wako on that!!
@@greekveteran2715 I agree 100%. Often his knives are not sharp after a 2k stone and he just strops them sharp and uses to high of an angle which rounds the edge. His stropping technique is not really good..
I'm so happy that you made this video to honour Virtuovice, as he is indeed a legend and so worthy of our praise. I have been hunting big game since I was 14 here in Canada, and I still hunt every year and I'm 53 now, but I can guarantee that Virtuovice has taken more animals in more places than I will ever do, and that sort of dedication to hunting, to knives is something that should definitely be applauded in this day and age, and I'm delighted to see you boys looking up to him in this way!! Outstanding!!
Nice tribute video. He really is a great person. I asked him once a question, and he responded with a whole private video just for me... Hard to believe a surgeon is so down to earth and humble.
OG virtuovice follower, the man is legendary, everything from his knife collection to his skills, to the time he performed surgery on his own hand after cutting it while hunting, he did not even stop filming while suturing.
I have been following him for a decade. Virtuovice taught me everything, from introducing me to Bark River Knives, the superiority of the convex edge, to how to sharpen. His videos are informative, straight to the point, relaxing and even enjoyable. And he is right, stropping is relaxing. Absolutely a LEGEND!
This video is officially my fav video. Seeing your excitement and telling your stories about his videos and the knives you got from him was extremely funny, brought back great memories of when I was getting into knives.
Been watching Virtuovice for a decade. His channel is amazing. He’s why I got into Bark River and I’m sure he’s the reason your channel came onto my feed. You guys rule.
Thank you for the personal insights into DBK! I did not know about virtuovice until today. I have already subbed and will be watching all weekend. Thank you!!!
I LOVE Vituovice! I have been watching his videos so much this past year. Love his accent, his wood cutting segments, his family dining, river-side lunches, all of it. What an amazing guy, and a great channel.
Please don't change your intro ever, really brings memories to me. You're bloody damn good. I'm going to buy my first Garberg in carbon, because I started to watch you guys about 5years from now. Continue and never stop please!
I actually learned about Virtuovice from DBK. Honestly, I’m just glad I found you both. Another excellent video. Nice to see you pay respect to a legend.
Relating to the Virtuovice stitching himself vid, anytime my friends or I bust ourselves up outdoors fishing or camping, we always quote ( my favorite all time ) ......... " trigger finger, still good ". Classic.
His video of trout fishing and bushcraft by the river.. that is still my ultimate bushcraft trip. I pretty much try to replicate it many times a year. He uses a firebox stove. Best piece of gear ever. Awesome video DBK. Tribute to a legend!
I am around the same age as Virtuovoice and I really appreciated his sharing an outdoorsman's perspective on knives. Your channel and his are among my favorites for knife content.
I love that guy. Been watching him for YEARS.. whenever I am looking at getting a new knife in that genre I looked to see if he's done a video on it. And if not I don't bother. I'm so glad you guys are in StarStruck with him as I am.
Been subbed to him for going on 3 years now. Never regretted it, except for the fact that he’s not releasing MORE VIDEOS ALL THE TIME! No but seriously, he’s great.
Wacko has been my hero for years!!! I used to ask him questions about steels and sharpening in 2012! His videos got me though the stress of medical school
Love his videos for many years! His videos cost me a lot of money.. More than 20 knives. Thanks for giving him this video, because of him I found you guys! Keep up the great work. Best from Norway.
Virtuovice was how I learned about Bark River Knives, convex sharpening, and the differences between certain steels. I enjoy everything he puts out on youtube!
This video is the best! One of the best I have seen on TH-cam!! Such a beautiful homage! I am going to start watching his channel. Thank you for the recommendation! Keep on doing what you do, gents! 🤘🏼
V.V was my first knife channel and DBK was my second. I am sitting in my garage right now handling my knives making father sticks for no reason andbits all because of you three! About 3500 in to my collection and because of V.V my favorite knife is my B.R bushcrafter with an asymmetrical grind I hand sharpened because of his teachings high Saber scandi on one side and a slightly higher scandivex. Thank you all! MORE KNIVES!
I absolutely love his channel. I would say it is my favorite knife content. However, y'all have a higher entertainment factor and I find myself watching more of your videos. Virtuovice is definitely a legend.
Yep, I love his videos... really enjoy all of his content! His discussions on handle geometry actually informed my handle shaping when I started making knives!
This was excellent, I was so fascinated by this virtuvice, the past year I’ve become interested in knives, due to watching your videos and other bushcraft shows, well done . daz from australia
My dutch uncles! I think you told me about buying knives from Dr. Waco. I didn't know you recognized his legendary status! So this video was one of the better ones from Dutchbushcraftknives. I'm grateful for him and you. My favorite video was him fishing, cooking and eating by the water out in the wilderness.
Long time fan of virtuovice vids. I used to put on one of his riverside bushcraft episodes to fall asleep when I had trouble sleeping. ASMR with those water sounds.
So true. He was one of the first channels I watch that really did know about knives and sharpening knives. Then came DBK and rocked my world of knives and also inspired me to go for it and I started my small channel, thanks for this 🔥🔪🏕
Wako has always been the best knife guy on youtube, second to none. His attention to detail is what sets him apart - and it's the reason he buys a dozen Bravo 1's, so he can compare blade geometry, ergonomics, balance and real world performance. Virtuovice is a legend indeed.
I remember watching him way back in the day when I was just getting into knives as and being fixed to the low quality tablet i had just drooling as his soothing japanese accent told me about a knive that i will never afford. Good times. This video reminded me of his Chanel now i have him and DBK to zen out to
This was such a great video in homage to Virtuovice! Hilarious moments, and insightful ones too! I'll have to watch every one of his videos for the obes you referenced 🤣🤣🤣. And a great ending to your video. 👍🏼👍🏼🙏🏼💙
Got to agree. Virtuavice is one of the most informative and interesting guy out there. His video were he explained the difference between convex grinds and flat grinds and there strengths and weakness. The guy definitely knows his stuff.
Same here, he changed all my view and vision about blades and art of sharpening though I started hunting, home butchering, being a cook, and collecting knives and being mesmerised by blades at the age of 5, 25 years before youtube
Most gratifying to share experience of enjoying Virtuovice. He taught me sharpening too. I found his sharpening videos hypnotic, even ASMR inducing. The economy of language delights.
Wako was really the one who got me sold onto Bark River Knives. I didn’t get a bravo though but I’m happy with my Tundra 3V and I do somewhat mimic his sharpening methods. Found him through a video of him hunting stag in the snow some few years ago, though the video was older.
I agree with you completely. I have been into knives all my life camping and fly fishing for trout here in the mountains of western North Carolina in the US. Waco taught me so much about knives/water stone sharpening and I don’t even know him. I now have a collection of Bark River knives and water stones along with many others but they are the best. Thank you Waco & DBK for everything. Kompai.
I just love some of his comments and one liners. Some of my favourites is the one you showed here with bleeding fingers on that stone, “on this grit, it’s inevitable!” But my favourite one is actually one where I actually froze up for second, did he say “too sharp!?” I thought he was gonna tell me some new secret about too sharp edges… but the whole thing goes like: “for this knife, I NEVER use a strop. Stropping makes edge too sharp... [pause] and then calmly goes on: “Very. Very dangerous. For a house wife”. What a legend! Love this homage!
Thanks to Wako-San I can now put a hair-popping edge on all of my convex knives. I learned to sharpen on water stones by studying his techniques. The guy is an absolute legend.

You guys crack me up. Would love to see y’all do another comparison video between several different steels with a similar or same grind. The length of blade would need to be close to or the same. Just to see how the different steels compare to one another. The rc hardness would have to be the same as well.
I've followed Virtuovice for 15? Years??? I collected Busse, and he reviewed a few I had. I liked his full convex repeofile videos. I love the way he speaks. I grew up arround Japanese students learning English, over the years I knew hundreds and hundreds. My mom taught them English in an agriculture program. Plus I was friends with the Japanese students at my school. Japanese Air Lines trained their pilots in my town.
My favorite quote from the man was from a vid on feather sticking : "Like a glider...in the sky". Cant say I ever did a single feather stick after seeing that without keeping that line in mind.
You guys should gift him the #1 knife from your first production run.
You guys should go to Japan and meet Virtuovice. That would be really cool and produce great content.
@Blank Frank 100% I’ll see you there!
I wanna see this!
This!
Absolutely! I've been thinking that for years.
I think I may have actually met the guy at a fishing shop my friends and I used to go to often in Kanagawa. Nice guy! I was really surprised with how good his English was.
A DBK / Virtuovice collab would be legendary. He would be the perfect guy to review the DBK knife.
yes do this for sure
Virtuovise must review the DBK knife !

Love the passion and unfiltered love here. I really hope the guy sees this.
Watching Virtuovice taught me everything I know about sharpening. He is such a knowledgeable guy.
He definitely deserves the love, this was brilliant ! Having had such a huge influence on so many people. You fellas are awesome. Thank you!!!

Watching Virtuovoice carve really DEEP notches into pine with his micro-convexed edges was really eye opening for me.
I actually learned about Virtuovice from DBK. Honestly, I’m just glad I found you both. Another excellent video. Nice to see you pay respect to a legend.
That Man must be a Doctor. I see all his videos. The only way to hunt that much in Japan is with $$$. Nice shout out gents
Have you seen him gut a deer? He's got to be a surgeon.
I remember him saying the kinda deer he's after is like how hogs are "pests" here
I believe he did an Xray on a set of knives. Definately a doc
He is a surgeon. He has said it in one of his videos.
@@willfish5961 yes he is a heart surgeon

Thank you so much!
And imagine those thousands of us who wait till Thursday just to have the zen moment watching new DBK episode. Love you guys.

My two favorite knife channels! Much respect to both channels! You bushcraft boys rock!
This episode is hilarious and entertaining!
It's quite admirable for you guys to dedicate an episode to the legendary Virtuovice.
The clip of him bleeding from sharpening is so savage. “From 120 grit this is inevitable” lol
