One of the pleasures left when growing old is remembering and watching great films like this. Thank God for the art of film --- Humphrey will be with us forever.
These old black and white noir films are so marvelously presented. Professional acting...all characters fit their roles perfectly. Great to see them all so young.
Bogart makes any movie excellent! He never disappoints in any role he plays! Excellent story, full of intrigue, romance and dialogue. This is one movie you can watch over and over!
Bogey's Santana Productions borrowed its name from his beloved yacht, the Santana. His independent film company had varying levels of success, but his fans still love everything he did. The AFI voted him No. 1 male film star of cinema's first 100 years. God rest his soul.
I heard that during the world war two he used his boat to patrol the coast were he lived because coastal defense was lacking of coastal patrols and it was said he did it near about every day he made his rounds with his own monies as well, he was a true American patriot!
It's a shame that AFI voted number one, he should be 100th, there are many many much better than him, starting with John Wayne, Clark Gable, Bing Crosby, Robert Taylor, Alan Ladd, Frank Sinatra, Burt Lancaster, Robert Mitchum, Jeff Chandler, Charlton Heston, Charlie Chaplin, Randolph Scott, James Cagney, Gary Cooper, James Stewart, Bob Hope, Cary Grant, William Holden, Richard Widmark, Glenn Ford, etc, he was at the most good as a supporting player like in Angels With Dirty Faces, but number one is unvelievable!!
Tnks for that "BOGEY" info. !! [ I'm still in love with Lauren Bacall, she looked like one of my High School girlfriends "Carol" ]... Hello, from Baltimore, Maryland !!
Humphrey Bogart also owned a motor boat "Sluggy". It was his nick name for his third wife Mayo Methot. The couple was known in Hollywood as the battling Bogarts for their not so secret history of fighting.
This is great! Bogie at his best. Intimidating and beseeching. Such a range. His facial expressions were his magic. I still think he was the best at projecting inner workings of his mind in any situation. Purposely not hidden. Masterful.
Agree 100 per cent ! Those two started out on Broadway & had years of experience before coming to Hollywood. Screen naturals ! Real troupers who were proud of their craft.
For years this movie eluded me, glad I caught it. Worth the watch to see the Future Villains: Mr Osato, Osato Chemical, James Bond = You Only Live Twice (Teru Shimada ) and the infamous Colonel Saito who gives the beat down to Colonel Nicholson = Brdige On The River Kwai (Sessue Hyakawa).
Thanks SO much for uploading the whole film ! Bogie made many fine films at Columbia. The best is of course "In A Lonely Place". "Tokyo Joe" is far from Bogie's best but even subpar Bogie is better than most ! And, as has been pointed out here in other comments, the quality of this print is superb !
What an adrenaline rusher! Bogey and a fascinating history lesson! Thank you and God bless you and TH-cam! What a fantastic time we're in, getting a perspective no other generation has ever dreamed of....!
A great look at the societal norms accepted as fact back in the first half of the 20th Century. Such a play redone with the same dialog today would appear strange to almost any contemporary audience. The quality of the print is outstanding. That, the period music, and Bogy himself make the film a generally enjoyable experience for anyone. Despite the stilted sociology displayed by the late 1940's characters and dialog; the story is interesting and holds a definate place as a classic.
So this is the movie that inspired Bryan Ferry for his song with the same title.... But not the same Joe... Throughout much of his work, a fascination for Bogart is evident...
Well, overall pretty good, but mostly due to Bogart's great performance. Columbia was the first film studio granted permission to film (exterior shots) in post war Japan. At first I thought Florence Marly was Michele Morgan (The Chase) and something about her bone structure, make up and hairstyle, reminded me of Peter Weller's Robocop! Sorry about that...
*** SPOILER ALERT *** 1:22:45 - 1:22:56 . . . . 1:24:15 - 1:24:40 The KEY to the gloomy ending. Joe dropping the gun ensures a well-choreographed, physical fight accentuated with pounding music with base drum, moody lighting with dark shadows, the girl's very effective screams plus the cutaways to the lethal knife on the ground -- just waiting to be picked up by one of the two, Joe or the villain, both in that deadly struggle to administer the coup de grace. When Joe is victorious, surely knowing there's more than one 'baddie' in the basement guarding / tormenting Anya, the girl, he should have retrieved the pistol PROMPTLY -- a VITAL act requiring a matter of a few seconds -- then race to pick up and comfort his precious daughter. That brief interlude is all it took for the villain to retrieve the gun. A FATAL mistake on Joe's part, one that a trained and experienced American military officer would not likely make. 'IF disarmed, retrieve sidearm ASAP to protect oneself and those in your protection' -- "Survival 101" tactical mindset. [I was thinking the fight was taking up so much time that Joe would resort to telling the 8-year old, quick -- get the gun!" -- although she may have been tied up, so that verbal command would be useless.] Good movie; thank you, "Silver Scenes," but way, way WAY too many, frequently positioned ads.
Was riding my bike home from work sometime after 2: 00 AM. the night before/morning of a game and who do you suppose came jogging across a parking lot downtown? Sam, Sam, Sam.....His last season in Madison.
Neat movie, but when US military shoots the Baron in the end, it makes the whole plot irrelevant. They could have shot or arrested him 6 weeks earlier when they began surveillance and tried him for treason then, for his prior notorious crimes, as they did with so many others... I liked the hari-kiri part. "sayonara old buddy" We don't see enough of that in movies today.

These old black and white noir films are so marvelously presented. Professional acting...all characters fit their roles perfectly. Great to see them all so young.
I don't like the way they are colorizing some old movies, most of them look cheesy with the horrible color
Well said & well put !
@@seymourwrasse3321 Totally agree ! Colorized movies never look sharp. The colors alway have a "washed out" look to me.
Yes. Actors, directors and writers for stuff like this film have been long gone from Hollywood generally speaking.
Wonderful. Humphrey Bogart. An unlikely star but what an actor. Love him to bits. Great quality print too- thanks.
I heartily concur !
No method acting here😊😊😊!!!
Bogart makes any movie excellent! He never disappoints in any role he plays! Excellent story, full of intrigue, romance and dialogue. This is one movie you can watch over and over!
Little Guy could act like most in the little lens days better with a Gun thou more believeable!
A golden film from the 'Golden Age'. Stellar performance by Humphrey Bogart. Great to see Sessue Hayakawa in this supporting role. Brilliant film.
My sentiment exactly !

Never seen before! One of Bogart's best
Never heard of this film before. Bogey always delivers.
I agree totally !
Humphrey Bogart, excellent actor, him and James Cagney.
Agree 100 per cent ! Those two started out on Broadway & had years of experience before coming to Hollywood. Screen naturals ! Real troupers who were proud of their craft.
Of all the saki joints in all Japan, she has to walk into mine 😅😂
Ha ! That's rich !
Bogart is the only one who can wear a bow tie and make it look great!
James Cagney can ❤
As I do when I take off my hat, you make a good point. Though I would say Fred MacMurray always looked good in a bow tie too.
Great film thank you so much

Indubitably !
What a great movie 🎥! It started out a bit slow but, when it picked up it really was fantastic! Bogie was such a good actor!
Great movie then. Great movie today. Humphrey always brings the real world into his roles. No other actor like him before or since.
Interesting and entertaining movie w/o computer effects and 4 letter words. Imagine that!
Don’t forget:, my favorite…NO NUDITY OR SEX ACTS!!!

Fantastic movie. Great content and character.
Bogart, at his best, tough guy , macho guy leading man , big star what more can u say !

Bogie is smooth, he can handle anything. Love that guy.

Anyone who can bring me a Bogart movie deserves a sub!
Nothing like Bogey in a 40's movie with fabulous music.❤❤❤
A nice surprise to see Mr. Cleaver (Hugh Beaumont) in this film.
Mr BEAVER,NOT MEAT CLEAVER.
Yes ! Now we know what he did before he settled down in Mayfield with his wife to raise their two sons.

WOW! Beaver’s dad quizzing Bogey!!

Simply super even the song .
The music and Bogey make this film a memorable film .
Bogie goes to Japan in order to start a business exporting frozen frogs to South America! Possibly the strangest premise of any film noir.😂
As I do when I take off my hat, you make a good point !

Bogart always 1 good liners. When I have to see my X again with the kids. Sianara Pal.. 🐊
Bogey, who is very old famous film star, made me of my good old day.
Every single movie Bogey turns into a major gem! But no women can match his rapport like Bacall and Bergman.
Great movie, great acting, the old black n white are the best.
Great film - with thanks.
Thanks!
Casablanca Lite. Enjoyable film.
Thx!
"Sayonara, pal."
Great film. Thanks.
Anyone else with commercials every 5 minutes? Not even bogie is worth it
Like others, this movie was new to me..
Very good tense drama, with believable plot and great twists.
Thank you for posting it .
Excellent movie. My FIRST time seeing this. He and his wife Lauren are my favorite movies.
Bogart does a good job again...audiences get to write their own ending...
Just like these old black and movie there great thank you for sharing
Excellent flick all around. Oh, Bogey the heart break kid. He seemed to live life that way dying young and leaving his love behind.
Trina's waist is so small it's unbelievable.
Little 7 year old Anya was born in 1942 and would be 82 years old. in 2024.
(Movie set in MCMXLIX -- 1949.)
I wonder if Wally and the Beaver knew their Dad was in a movie with Humphrey Bogart.
One of My Favorite Bogart Movies is "Dead Reckoning"
👍👍 ✨✨✨✨✨
Thanks for sharing
After 5 minutes it's clear that Bogey never went to Japan
Love your channel. Many of us would love the movie year of released original. Could you make it happen?
MCMXLIX? (1949)
Thanks for upload! Do you have the Bogey film "The Enforcer" by any chance? Only one I am missing.
Wonderful! Give me anything Bogie. TYVM
His buddy, who saved him his whisky...is the officer from Battle of the Coral Sea....
Bummer not to know for sure if Bowgee died in the end or not.

Bogard...i wszystko jasne!!! super film! :)
9:37 Both of them can’t fight.
Obviously a double was used for Bogarts scenes in Japan. Guess they were too cheap to send Bogie himself.

"2nostromo," "Don't think he made it" was evidenced by the very, VERY last camera shot going all 'soft' and out of focus -- denoting he's 'had it.'
So did Bogie live at the end or not? Better he live to defend his wife against War propaganda crimes!!
