I just happened upon this movie tonight. Loved Kim Novak's '54 Mercury Monterey Convertible. I usually watch these for the cars and architecture. Its a pleasant surprise when great actors, memorable lines and a suspenseful plot are included. Thanks for posting. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks for posting this. I had not seen it before. "Introducing Kim Novak!" She was only 20 years old here and, as of this writing, she's still with us at 90 years old! Four years later, she'd be cast in Hitchcock's "Vertigo." She retired from her acting career in 1991 and now lives in rural Oregon. Fred MacMurray is 45 years old here. Six years after this movie, he swore off playing tough/bad guys after the public's reaction to his character in Billy Wilder's "The Apartment." Thus began his role as "Steve Douglas" in TV's "My Three Sons." Emmy-winning E.G. Marshall is 39 here. 1954 was another busy year for him. He was in ten productions that year alone including "The Caine Mutiny." Three years later, he would be in "12 Angry Men." He was in almost 200 productions during his long career right up until his death in 1998 at 84 years of age.
Frederick MacMurray, one of my favorite actors, so enjoyed his noir movie roles, as well as his stint on TV in "My 3 Sons". He did westerns, too...but somehow, the urban roles were his best. This one is ☆☆☆☆
Somebody knew they had a star on their hands and launched the good ship fem fetale with champagne, the works. Heart stopping beauty, enhanced with acting chops and a hypnotic voice.
Can't help thinking that Malone and Novak were playing each other's natural roles, but apart from the rather weak ending it was great stuff. Thank you for uploading.
You had me at "Kim Novak". She was a magnetic performer and had an unusual, timeless beauty that always illuminated the screen. I'd not seen much of her black and white film work, so this was quite a treat.
One very good classic film. The choice of actors for the cast is excellent. Great film quality that has been posted for us to view it's appreciated. Very recommendable story to follow and enjoy. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🙂
The only drawback with films from this period is that the Haze Code acts as the spoiler, well ahead of time. But Fred McMurray’s uneasy struggles with his conscience and Kim Novak’s classical fem fatale are worth the price of admission, any time.
An assembly of great actors. An excellent film noir with the incomparable anti hero/villain played by Fred MacMurray, playing a similar role which he created in the film classic ‘Double Indemnity,’ made ten years earlier. Phillip Carey, was a talented and accomplished actor, who played heroes and villains during his time as an actor in Hollywood. He should be commended in his role - as should EG Marshall, a wonderful character actor, who appeared in major supporting roles in countless films. To add to this illustrious supporting cast, the delightful Kim Novak, who always played the glamorous but tough minded and feet on the ground film actress.
"jcamisa50," Novak -- spelled correctly at the top of this TH-cam presentation courtesy of "Donald P. Borchers" -- Fred MacMurray, Kim Novak & E.G. Marshall in "Pushover" (1954); and of course the main titles. Absolutely correct though: "Kim Novak was so VERY pretty. Good acting from all the players."
Never heard of this movie before now. A very different Fred MacMurray from that other role I remember him in (- as a good role model!). Thanks for sharing.
For those familiar with and who enjoy film noir it's hard not to enjoy, to varying degrees of enthusiasm, "Pushover" -- from the typewriter of Roy Huggins who within a few years became huge in television via "Maverick," "The Rockford Files," "The Fugitive." "Alias Smith and Jones," "Run for Your Life," "Hunter," etc. "Thank you again, 'Donald P. Borchers,' for another good show." An oversight, a minor plot point, I caught within the movie's exciting climax -- as bullet-riddled Fred MacMurray lies bleeding, yet talking still, on the rain soaked street's pavement, his partner Phillip Carey leads Dorothy Malone away back to her apartment. Yet it's been established and reinforced that Malone is a registered nurse -- so of course she would 'see what she could do' to aid the wounded man in their immediate proximity while all await the ambulance's arrival.
Fantastic! Builds up and never stops. Every second counts. In the last one-third, I was holding my breath....A masterpiece. Thanks for the treat, Mr. Borchers! Naturally I subscribed.
I'll take a stab at that, and say people want to be liked and accepted. The desire to fit in is so strong that people sometimes do things to seek approval, even when it goes against good judgment.

That's the way it used to be...and it was good
