Enjoy Rathbone interpretation, Director Roy William MacNeil's depiction that despite brilliance, Holmes only human, even dangerously off in judgement at times due to inescapable period prejudice.
I grew up in Mexico City. This series was the only thing in English! Fridays at 11 pm. I was 14. I thought I’d seen all of the series. I hadn’t seen, Dressed To Kill!!!!! Thank you so much for posting this!
Lol, I used to sneak out of my room and watch this Friday night, 11pm. I was probably 7 y.o. I got away with it until I watched this one. It gave me nightmares, so my parents put a stop to it. IDK if Basel Rathbone is the best 'Sherlock Holmes', but he will always be my favorite. ♥️
Am old enough to remember seeing a picture in a newspaper of Nixon in the early 70s fishing with his friend, BeBe Robosa (spell>=?) in a 3 piece suit. But, then Nixon was so constipated. LOL.
Basil Rathbone was an actor that took a part, made it his own and woe to others trying it on. Robert Newtons "Long John Silver" in Treasure Island and James Mason;s "Captain Nemo" 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea are in the same vein. Classics never go out of style.
Ithink this film is very good to watch on my mobile phone. I like this film. Very mauh 🎄 sherlock homes is very good indeed. 🤔 Ihopeyou like this comment rebekah 🎄
Plot hole The insurance companies would immediately suspect fraud when several policies were paid out with the same beneficiary, where the death occurred under similar circumstances
Think lve nearly watched every episode there is over and over , its addictive no doubts l will continue to watch them over again , , All the best to you and your channel looking forward to viewing more ,Scotland UK of GB 🇬🇧👍🏻
I live in Tampa and enjoy plants and out fishing in a local small pond in a yard I noticed a very strange plant and asked the owner for some seeds. He told me it was a very dangerous plant called;" Devil's Claw." I had no idea how dangerous at the time or for years until I watched this show.
I’ve enjoyed several of your reactions, they always interesting! This one especially so since you obviously love it so much. I love both of them, too, but I have things that bother me but over all they’re still some of the best. 😊
This actually borders on spoof and is quite funny! Pyjama suicides - river claims distinguished victim - lawlessness rampant! - ‘It’s an outrage. That fellow Holmes had no business dying just now.’
I am guessing that those people who commit suicide by jumping out of windows generally open them first! Taking a run at a closed window with its frame in the hope that you'll go through is rather risky however one crazed by the venom of a spider might not be thinking so rationally. That spider looks like some kind of Tarantula which is said to pack a painful but harmless nip to humans.Even the more toxic spiders are generally too small to inject enough venom to be fatal in a person.
In the women in green, gregson was the inspector rather than lestrade as the subject matter was considered too dark for lestrades buffon delivery of character. The women in green is the darkest of the rathbone era holmes movies, the original script before editing was even darker.
What bothers me in this version of Sherlock Holmes is how stupid Dr Watson was made. Dr Watson was a military doctor so it's not credible he would be so dense. A good script would not need such piteous strategy to enhance Holmes' perspicacity.
Although these are very good movies, they're not really any mysteries, since, it's obvious who is behind these murders, or plots. An example of this is The Spider Woman. It's like the movie, The Speckled Band, in which A Snake is used to kill, rather than The Tarantulas (the Lycosa Spider) in this movie. In The Speckled Band, while it's a bit easy to guess who is the bad party, it is a mystery. This is why, in these Universal 1940 movies, My favorites are The Voice Of Terror, Terror By Night & The Sherlock Holmes Faces Death movies (they are actual mysteries). Let me know what you think.

These would have been a masterpiece but making Watson absent minded and feeble, really messed this production up. As a big Sherlock Holmes fan. Not really a fan of these.
Rathbone was quite the actor. He was good in anything he did. One of the finest speakers and speaking voices, immediately identifiable.
Indubidubly 🙂

Brilliant film. Gale Sondergaard was a gorgeous lady.

always enjoyable, time well spent
Love the variety of hat designs the ladies are wearing.

They weren't paid out to the same beneficiary. "Never the same man twice mind you."
It’s just a story from a simpler time
"Yes! It's horrible!"
"Let's go and get a drink!"

It's always a joy in these Rathbone/Nigel Bruce films to see the same character actors appear in different roles.
If u look at the fall sherlock got when watson hit him. He fell badly against the small table. That had 2 hurt a bit.. 😮
Yes! And Basil Rathbone didn't break character and ruin the take. ❤
His head hit the table.. pretty hard 🤕

what year was this made 1943 or 1946?
They must have been filming these not long after the Germans stopped bombing London.

Maybe so, but there is something hilariously campy about it. IF you prefer a more faithful adaption, go watch Granada with Jeremy Brett.

This is the Spider Woman. Why do you rename these old movies. To ensure we will not watch or what?
The spider is not an insect but àra hnid spiders have eight legs and insects ha e ßix legs
Why do they sink to lying about the name of the movie? It gains them NOTHING.
