A terrific noir by a terrific director, Sam Fuller. He once said " Life is in color but black and white is more realistic" Bingo!! As a filmmaker myself I feel closest in spirit to Jacques Tourneur and Sam Fuller. Visually, Fuller is a VERY exciting and innovative artist.
Great comment - have you posted any of your films on here? I'm new to these old black & white films; I have been watching Talking Pictures TV religiously, no other channel round-the-clock, for about 5 months now. I'm loving every movie & every show, it's almost like they didn't know how to make terrible movies back then. I do love how they are just as hard-hitting at times & although I am a gold-medallist curse-monkey, it's refreshing to watch things without it. The impact is still there without all the f-ing & blinding. Completely I don't agree at all with the person who commented the players in these old films are caricatures. It's just, that was how "real" looked & sounded back then. I guess as I'm nearly 50 years old, that I am coming to really appreciate watching things that my parents & grandparents did.
@@cosmicstargazer10 Have only made one (very long) film but have not posted it online Trying to enter it onto a festival if I can since it has many copyright issues that have not been resolved yet.
But it depicts one awful crazy world of yesteryear - brutal nationwide gangster syndicates, brutal murder of children, cigarettes, cigars, booze, juvenile delinquency...
@@agentstanley29 So what's got better? Epstein? The Maxwells? Diddy? the billionaires running the show instead of honestly elected politicians? One of the things I love about these old classics is that they pretty accurately depicted how it really was back then. Now you can't see the truth for the fog & A list actors are just whores for political agendas. Maybe that's why Hollywood burns now.
I agree, they're a fantastic refuge from the digital insanity that we can't seem to escape from. Some of these old noirs faced up to some really current issues too, consumer culture, pedophilia, rape, corrupt officials...Hell, sometimes I think a lot of them should be re-made straight to script, without AI, CGI & twin gun toting, bulletproof clowns in overcoats getting blown backwards through giant plate glass windows in slow motion, only to get back up like they've only been slapped. This was the golden age of cinema & it keeps me grounded from all the fairy tale, fake nonsense we're fed these days. Can you ever imagine Richard Widmark or Humphrey Bogart agreeing to a John Wick movie? Nah, not enough cigarettes, booze & broads! Ha! Imagine Ernest Borgnine dealing with some Woke trans Hollyweirdo now! He'd probably punch him out & report him for being a Comsymp 🤣🤣
Great film noir. They didn’t rush this one at all. Happy that it was as long as it is. I also appreciated 1) the effort made to get the nice fancy cars in the shot and 2) the dapperness of most of the men. Gus was one great looking guy !
Incredibly well-done film noir. Hard to believe I never heard of it. The rare kind of film you watch more than once bc there’s so much more than meets the eye. 5 ⭐️
My new favourite US black & white crime film. I did not want it to end that way though! Thank you so much for posting this - now I can watch it whenever: I want/ WiFi behaves.
Simply perfect. The plot is excellent and Sam Fuller's camera is mesmerizing. Cliff Robertson is often disregarded nowadays, but he was very good playing characters such as Tolly Devlin.
Beautiful symmetry. Guest stars The Fountain. Just found out the backlot used was demolished. House, church fountain, all gone. Truly the end of a movie and tv era.
Classic noir film. This movie showed if a person wants revenge, and go for it but in the end he himself might get killed either by his enemy or by law. And his dear ones too have to suffer. Loved to watch the movie.👌
James Dean appeared in Sam Fuller's Fixed Bayonets! 1951 briefly at the end of the film. I've often wondered what future films he could have had with this great director
!!! Obra de arte!!
Great ads! Loved every minute of the movie. Oh! was there a movie? Gee I must have missed it. An ad every 5 minutes. youtube is getting REALLY REALLY Bad.........
Request for Brother Orchid 1940, if possible considering it's a W arner B ros studio pic. Eddie G. Robinson's best gangster role imo, plus Donald Crisp is always a highlight.
Cliff Robertson was in movie ( picnic) with Betty Field , Reta Shaw , Nick Adams, Verna Felton Arthur O'Connell William Holden Elizabeth W. Wilson Susan Strasberg Rosalind Russell Kim Novak Raymond Bailey
This is the kind of movie that Tarantino stole from ... the more you know, the less you show. Except this is a worthwhile look at how crime embeds and functions. Not some caper tale. Never interrupt ignorance.
%%***SPOILER ALERT***%% I think ol Tolly set the record for the longest bit of staggering before dying I have ever seen 😂 I mean man, he staggered for like a full minute.
No more copywrite? What's up with all these full movies of Columbia on here with ads? Can I make same kind of channel for my own profit? Has the Columbia library become open to everyone for profit? 70k subs in one year with no original content at all congratulations to the owner. Most original content sucks, real Columbia pictures are much better and the ads don't come every 3 minutes. It's watchable. Thanks. Hope you make a million before they cut you off.
A good storyline and a ok film, that could have been a lot better. A different director and better work on the main character's dialogue could have turned this into a great movie 🎬
Cliff Robertson and Dale Robertson. My last name is Robertson but they’re lucky 🍀 that they are no kin to me. My daddy’s first name was Lonnie and he was crazy as a bedbug. He was convinced that he was Jeremiah or one of the old time prophets. His dad died in the insane asylum and my mother’s dad took a shotgun and blew his brains out. I guess I’m just lucky 🍀. I’m 79 years old and I’m still around. My 96 year and brother and his 98 year old wife are the last ones of our family who are still alive. My dad died when he was 99 years old. 😊

I find the oldies so caricatured ..they're almost cartoons.

@barrybarnes96 probably has that kind of feel due to influence of comics of that era. And the influence of vaudeville
Sure glad these movies are around to watch. The cars the old scenes the actors in their young days . It's a good escape from today's crazy world.
But it depicts one awful crazy world of yesteryear - brutal nationwide gangster syndicates, brutal murder of children, cigarettes, cigars, booze, juvenile delinquency...
Crooked cops, giant gas guzziling automobiles

Lots of great plot in this one. Good to see cliff in his younger days .he had very good acting ability indeed!

Great Film!!!!!!!!!!
My new favourite US black & white crime film. I did not want it to end that way though! Thank you so much for posting this - now I can watch it whenever: I want/ WiFi behaves.
Excellent film! Tragic but powerful
Thank you. Really great film!!!

Cliff Robertson was in movie ( picnic) with Betty Field , Reta Shaw , Nick Adams, Verna Felton
Arthur O'Connell
William Holden
Elizabeth W. Wilson
Susan Strasberg
Rosalind Russell
Kim Novak
Raymond Bailey
And Jerry Mathers as the beaver
Excellent film
Thanks for the post, but why is he going to "Beaver" Cleaver's house ? 😮🤔👉1:22:51
best in film noire...origional print...

1:19:56 i think that's the Bewitched garage.
A movie 🍿 full of unpleasant men. 😱😱😱🍿🍿🍿😳😳😳🥺🥺🥺
%%***SPOILER ALERT***%%
I think ol Tolly set the record for the longest bit of staggering before dying I have ever seen 😂
I mean man, he staggered for like a full minute.
Shot in the stomach, it appears. All the others who were shot were never even checked to see if they were dead!
They used those ol plymouths as cabs in movies alot
1:01:15 shot Francie Twice, so that was her last name. How many times was she shot.
54:50 Pretty risque for a 1961 movie, don't you think?
intense camera work but too slow a pace. revenge plot repeated in 'nevada smith' several yrs later.
Imagine time 57:39 on a real movie palace screen 60 feet wide. You'd have room to park a 1959 Cadillac between her eyes!
I have been watching these Movies the past week , Movies today are garbage compared !!
paulie walnuts before paulie walnuts was paulie walnuts. lol
Jimmy Altieri's alter ego got whacked too.

Who killed Harry 😢?
😎
👍👍
not the best movie ever made but not necessarily the worst.
I don’t understand all I know about this movie. 😅😅😅😅😅
Menken's daughter should have been named Rachael or Saskia. Not Jennie.
Supposed "14", looks like a short guy in his 20s.
Good Movie but.......................
.No happy Ending here though folks
sigh, Oh well
sound
Not one single kissing scene between Tully and Cuddles. Too bad.
A good storyline and a ok film, that could have been a lot better.
A different director and better work on the main character's dialogue could have turned this into a great movie 🎬

I lost track towords the end, and frankly I found the story a bit corny .
A person could get lung cancer making this movie
Ok film. Does drag on a bit much. Too much back and forth.
This one just didn't grab me.
Not a very realistic movie.
Research Flat Earth please...no globe
If the Earth is flat, why does the sun have to rise and set? It could loiter.
Must've taken a lot of effort to upload this movie to justify leaving the date off of it.😆1961. There, fixed it for you!
My TV program as the date
