    Recently I got an R7 (moving up from a 70D) for high school sports. I have had a very frustrating time using the tracking for American football. This week I turned off the tracking and it’s much better. Thanks for confirming that’s a good thing to do!

      Hi. What configuration are you using to photograph American football, with the R7?

      Hey, just wondering if you’ve shot tons of basketball w it yet? I’m looking at either an r7 or r8 as a B cam and I’m debating which to get, primarily shooting basketball

    Great video looking forward to more, I've just bought a R7 and used it to photograph my Isthmian League North team, been very pleased with the results, like you I turned off the tracking. I'm looking forward to use it next week for it's 1st evening game

    I have used an R7 for baseball for 1 year now, and I always use the focus tracking. For me it works really well; most of the out of focus photos are my fault or because my 70-300 4-5.6 EF is not par-focal and the focus changes as I zoom. I’m interested to try turning off the tracking though, especially since the focus point can be moved so easily using either the screen or the joystick. It could be advantageous since faces are sometimes hard to find for the R7 because of helmets or harsh shadows.

    I use an r7 for lots of sports for my job and I get the auto iso thing but there is a menu setting where you can set a minimum and maximum for auto iso

    I recently tried my R7 on my old ef 300 f 2.8.I was pleasantly surprised. It was still daylight and not sure what results will be at sunset hour. I got great photos. I always wished I had a 400 for football, but the R7 turned my 300 into a 480mm. It actually had too much reach at times if I did not move back a bit from normal. I am considering trying the R7 in low light with the ef 70-200 f2.8 making it a 320mm. I had fun with the R7 on the 300. Thanks for your videos.

    Hey Rob - really enjoy your videos on shooting sport. You were a big part of my reason to my an R6 ii and I’m really happy I did. I use it to shoot my kids rugby and it’s great. However the camera has frozen (requiring a battery pull) 3-4 times in the last few months when I’ve shot 800-1000 photos in a short rugby game. Although I didn’t get an overheating warning, the camera did feel warm (and spring in Australia can still be hot!). Should I be worried and contact Canon for service, or is this behaviour expected in extreme situations?

    Thank you so much for this video. This is good information. So, you mentioned something that was bothering me and couldn't figure out about shooting with an EF Lens (100-400mm mk ii) . I purchased some fast SD cards but still wasn't getting the acclaimed 15 fps. Maybe it's because I'm shooting with the EF 100-400mm mk ii lens and adapter?

    Rob, thanks for this video. I have a huge problem. I photograph American football and I feel that sometimes the focus is lost when I'm following the player, even holding down the AF-ON button. Another thing I noticed is that the focus is not 100%, even though the focus point shows that it is there. Would there be any adjustment for this?

    I don't know if it's old age Rob but my muscle memory seems to be getting slower and slower so for me having different bodies is a no go. I used to use two different DSLR bodies (one high end and one less expensive body) but having changed to mirrorless I had to bite the bullet and purchase two identical bodies. I even found that using a battery grip confused me as the layout was slightly different and so returned the one I bought.

    I graduated to the R7 from 7D MK 2 and found the learning curve a little steep on my first few attempts at shooting rugby league. I made the mistake of using tracking which meant that the camera was forever searching for focus and I missed a lot of the action in the meantime so I would inevitably stow the R7 in the bag and drag out the old familiar gear again. Will definitely try out your recommendations

      I'm in the same boat as you. I photograph aircraft and the Canon 7D Mark ii does a fantastic job! I tried with my R7...still learning this camera and what settings works best. I too had to pull out the old gear.

    Hi Rob. Thanks for that video. Yes, we were waiting for that for a long time. ;-) I extensively used the R7 for about 8 month and moved back to the 1DX. Until I got the R6ii I was ok with the R7, but did not always get the picture quality I wanted. 35MP are good on paper, but the crop sensor, even it „extends“ the focal length, decreases the picture quality. I’m complaining on a high level, so 99.9% of the users will be more than happy with the R7. It has a great autofocus system, high fps and is small. It travelled with me to Africa and was a great companion. Other negatives: small batteries and no battery grip, not even 3rd party. I’m wondering about your experience with the ISO performance, so I will give my feedback at that video of yours.

    Hi ,I have an R7 and do a lot of sport,but I found the AF and image quality not consistent especially in lower light. I personally would recommend an R6 or R6 ii and avoid the R7.

    Ive been photographing my sons grassroots football for 8 years now, progressing from a 400D to a 760D to a R7. I only post to Facebook group pages but have noticed with the better cameras my uploaded pictures are looking worse. I understand FB cant deal with high quality pics but what can i do to keep the sharpness on my uploads. Ive noticed Instagram look better but still not great.
    How about a video explaining it all to us novices.
    My pics have improved massively since I got the R7 and started binge watching your videos, BBF top tip

      Export from lightroom to 2048px long edge and set quality to 80%. Extra sharpening may be necessary to give the illusion of extra sharpness, so set output sharpening to screen and amount standard.

    Hi Rob. Have you got any settings suggestions for shooting rowing with the R7?
    This would be a rowing eights regatta, on a river. I would be using the R7 with the RF 100-400 lens.

    • @RobSambles
      @RobSambles  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would say that most of what I suggested in the video will work for you. No idea to worry about high iso assuming it's daytime but shoot mechanical shutter to avoid rolling shutter on those oars

    • @johns7988
      @johns7988 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RobSamblesThanks for the reply Rob. Would you use the human eye tracking for rowing? Considering there are 8 people in the boat, would the eye tracking tend to jump from one person to another?

  • @phillesfan98
    @phillesfan98 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hi Rob! I don’t know how much experience you have shooting sports with the R8, but I’ve been debating on whether I should buy an R7 or R8 for shooting photo and video for college sports. I know the R7 has more reach and has a faster mechanical shutter speed but do you think that outweighs the R8’s 40 FPS and video quality?

    • @peterdvideos

      I recently got the R7 for high school sports. I’m getting used to it. If you can swing it, I’d say get the R6ii.

  • @andersonnssilva
    @andersonnssilva 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Rob. Could you tell me if the Canon EF 70-200mm 2.8 L (first generation) adapts well to the Canon R7? If there is any configuration... I'm having problems with this combination. I'm losing focus very easily when I shoot using the H+ AI SERVO. I saw in a publication, some lenses that don't perform well above 15 fps. If you could give me feedback, I would appreciate it.

    • @wellingtoncrescent2480
      @wellingtoncrescent2480 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can't speak to this combination specifically, but I've seen reports of focus pulsing (loss of acquired focus) with older EF lenses that can't keep up with the R7 autofocus. Duade Paton covers the issue quite well in the context of birds and wildlife, even with new RF lenses. He recently did a video where Canon basically conceded that the slow readout speed in the R7 creates problems at high frame rates, with the company basically recommending 7-15 fps as the optimal frame rate to avoid the issue. I can imagine that it might be a bigger deal with older, slower AF motors. Does frame rate affect your experience?
