Great video Rob, as ever. I’m not a pro but I shoot pro soccer here in the UK using an R7 with a mark 1 300mm f2.8 - it’s an excellent combo and works brilliantly in anything from good to average light. I’m lucky that one of the clubs I shoot has incredible floodlights so it rarely goes above 3200 ISO for night games - different story at the non league club I also cover, where I need a shutter speed as low as 1/320 sometimes to maintain 8000 ISO - at this point the R7 struggles. But as a budget-friendly alternative to using a full-frame body and 400mm lens, I’m really happy with my R7/300.

I use for my motorsport photography my R7 with an EF 100-400 L Mk II and EF 500 L F4 Mk II via a basic Canon adapter. The combination works beautifully! I set to c-raw with electronic 1st shutter. 15fps setting is more than enough (no more than 3 or 4 frames @15 fps usually covers the critical moment). The single standard battery life is very good and I don’t need a battery grip to hold a second battery (I don’t think that such a grip exists in any case). But I found that the vertical grip is too small so I made my own extension grip based upon a tripod plate and a piece of broomstick . Again that works beautifully! To cope with with high iso noise, Lightroom AI denoise works very well.

After watching Rob over the past few years I have settled on the R7 and R6. For reach I have the RF 70-200 F2.8 and RF 100-400. Had the RF 100-500 for a little while but decided to sell it after I got the RF100-400. In most sports situations I use the R7 with the 70-200 F2.8 (approx 110-320 with the crop) and its a beast. Also love how lightweight and compact the combo is with the R7/RF100-400 for shooting outdoors...sports, aircraft and birds. So usually have the R7 setup for reach and the R6 setup for portraits or closer subjects. Looking at my metadata I have used the the RF35 F1.8 the most by far vs the RF 50 F1.8 and RF 24-70 F2.8. Your content is great Rob...thanks!

What about the buffer issue Rob?

I shoot an R7 and along with my R5, makes a killer combo for action photography

Great video. I find that electronic 1st curtain works best in many situations.

I shoot with the R5 (and an OM-1). Bought a R7. Great cam for the money, for me, the buffer is little tight but... BTW withthe RF 70-200 f/2.8 it becomes (sort of) a 112-320 f/2.8. The new Canon RF 100-300 f/2.8 is near $10k. LOL

This is a really interesting point! Is that a setup you actually use?

The R7 outperforms the low light performance of the 1Diii. So if you can’t make an R7 work for sport, there is something wrong with you

    Great video as always Rob!
I have just gone from a 1DX ii to the R7 this week. Mainly to reduce weight but also to move to the newer tech. This is paired with my EF300mm f2.8L IS and now looking to upgrade my other 1DX ii to an R6 for the EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS ii

bought one and sold it (as an r6/mk2 and 1dx/mk2 shooter) mainly due to the ergonomics including lack of vertical grip
If they put the r7 internals into an r6 body i probably would have kept it

Ya im wondering if this R7 would be good for softball....and what lenses i should pair with it

I'm shooting indoor ice hockey with an original 7D Mark I and a cheap sigma 150mm-600mm usually with shutter at 1/1600 and ISO at 3200. I can get some nice photos if I use photoshop AI to remove noise from the RAW, but it takes so much time editing I'm ready to upgrade. I'm wondering if I'd be better off with a new camera body with better high ISO performance, a better lens with bigger aperture or just start over entirely (in which case I'd switch over to Sony). Obviously the biggest problem is cost!

I shoot [a lot of] cricket and some of my peers jokingly shake their heads when I pull out a 7Dmk2 to use on my 400/2.8 but the crop sensor means I've got a 640mm/2.8 at the end of the day.
I want to switch to the R7 but one thing is holding me back - there's no grip for it! I'm not sure what Canon was thinking when they made that decision.

    Hi Rob,
Have you tried the canon R8?
Any thoughts on said entry level canon mirrorless?

Hi Rob, I'm using r6m2 body with rf 70-200 f2.8 zoom lens for RG competition but is not cover all carpet. I'm looking to buy sigma 120-300mm f2.8 or R7 body to use rf70-200 f2.8. which one is batter you think 🤔 Thank you😊

I am looking into getting a mirrorless camera but wouldn’t be able to afford the lenses right now , would the R7 work for circle track car racing with my EF 70-200 F2.8 ???

Is it possible to demonstrate any real action shots with it? These images are great, but relatively motionless. I’d like to capture sharp images of 60/100m races (some of which are indoors), and I’m probably about 15-20m away.
    Would the R7 deliver?
    Appreciate any response.

What's it like with rolling shutter.
one of the reasons I got rid of the R6 and went back to 1dxmk2.maybe old but reliable

Worse than the R6 I would say, works for some things but not faster sports

Buffer depth compared to 7D Mark ii?

    • @blakeparry1983

      far better at 10fps equivalent
not so great if youre shooting at 30fps - more frames overall but less time
I always dialled it down and never had an issue

    • @RobSambles
      @RobSambles  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

A lot better I would say
