A MESSAGE FROM DOCUMENTARY TELEVISION Hey guys thanks for watching the videos, to those of you who watch every video, double thanks. You all should know that it's my intention to film every dog breed. The order in which I film them is truly dependent on a lot of different factors, some of which are out of my control. I am a single person producing the content for this channel, so if I don't get to your request immediately, its not that your being ignored. Its a monumental task I'm taking on, please be patient and enjoy the videos as they come. Thanks!
Dogumentary TV I just stumbled upon your channel and I just wanted to say. I've been looking for something like this for such a long time. Keep up the work, it's amazing!
Totally agree. But it's money well earned as people are blessed with St Bernard puppies and siamese cats. If only more good breed dogs are available instead of breeds that are a dime a dozen. People would love their pets more.
Wow, great video! Richard Eichhorn nailed it, nailed it, nailed it. My wife and I just kept giggling through the whole thing as he described our Angel perfectly. On guard dusk till dawn with regular announcements that she is on duty. "Off duty" when away from the home. 20% cat. Acknowledges that you are calling her, but not particularly motivated to come. Not impressed with the human "antics" of ball throwing. Doesn't look for trouble, but zero fear with threats. More of a supervisor than a subordinate, almost in a military sense. She takes her job seriously, and gets irritated if you don't respect that. Annoyingly and endearingly smart. You have to be prepared for 15 years of mental chess, and you had better win 90% of the time, or they will. They need to feel confident that you deserve to be in charge by demonstrating a calm cool authority with clear and consistent boundaries, otherwise they will just assume leadership until further notice. They need to feel that you deserve their respect. Angel is not a dog, she's more of a partner. She expects to have some say, and will let you know if she disagrees, complete with protests, some quite passionate. We LOVE our Tibetan Mastiff, but we rarely recommend the breed. Why? They are very special and deserve unique homes, both in property and in an owner. As they protect you, you need to protect them. They aren't just a dog, they are a treasure. Excellent video!
Jay Smith I didn't pay a dime for my dog, we adopted her. I didn't know that there are people who think the breed isn't legitimate. Funny, you can spend even more on sickly dogs that aren't even capable of giving birth unassisted. Yet the ancient breed that has been tested and proven for tens of thousands of years in extremely harsh environments, with a life span double most dogs it's size, is what some people consider it a mutt, or somehow undesirable. Kind of funny when you think about it. You stick with your pure breeds, my "mutt" is just fine for me.
SpAceX Fan if they are smart enough to earn a lot of money then it's up to them on what to spend it on. I think your definition of mutt is off, this is an ancient breed. Be happy bud.
These dogs are not mutts and only an idiot would call them that. As for people paying a considerable amount of money for the dog, it is their money and their right to spend it as they wish.
Me Myself And I the reason that these people put so much of themselves into these dogs is because they care about and love them. They spend time with their dogs, seeing them as much more than some random animal or simple source of protection. Apparently in England, people don't really care about the animals that they have, and can't comprehend the reason that we would care for our dogs. Tibetan Mastiffs need alot of time put into their care and development, and people love and put time into them like they would a child. If people in England can't understand that, then that's pretty sad.
I have two. Hime and Agata. I was going down stairs and I had a stroke when I was 24, Hime actually ran in front of me and broke my fall so I landed on her instead of tumbling down the stairs. she even turned me on my back. hasn't left my side since I also have Utok who is a Russian Caucasian shepherd and Bane who is a Wolf hybrid.
Bro my Tibetan mastiffs barks too much at night. Natural instinct. In my village in Uttarakhand everybody keeps Tibetan mastiffs due to leopard and at night whole village is like a barking orchestra. But now we have become habitual of the sounds
They probably bark to keep the leopards away. Great Pyrenees do something similar by barking in one place, moving, and barking again in order to make it seem like there are multiple dogs on the property to scare coyotes off
@Lina Pegu Only the enhanced Chinese one is different. Rest most Himalayan dogs are pretty much the same. An ancient wolf dog breed. Didn't watch the whole video but what the guy said initially about their nature is pretty darn accurate . I owned one(Gaddi mastiff) who grew to become quite large but was killed by a Tiger or Leopard. In village,we don't keep them tied. So they do have a mind of their own.
My grandfather used to tell us stories about Tibetan mastiff and how they fought with wolves leopards and even yeti lol. What some of the old timers used to do was put a spike chain around its neck so that wolves and leopards couldnt hold its neck. Lots of legendary stories about this legendary breed in my village.
When I was staying in a hotel in shangri-la, China, the owner owns one of these dogs. The dogs are huge and mean but the one he has was really friendly and cuddly. The owner is a chill dude and allowed his dog to follow me all over the town. Really like that place.
That was intense and informative! Off property - just a big dog, on property - a defender. My favorite line was when he was talking about Coyotes not coming around, lol!
Thanks to all involved with the Dogumentary series. Dogs are fascinating creatures and learning as much as possible about each breed has been a goal of mine and you make that possible.
My most inusual sighting of a Tibetan Mastiff in Tibet was in Lhasa at Norbulingka, the "Summer Palace" of the 5th-14 Dalai Lamas. The large beautifully landscaped park has summer homes & Temples. At one Temple, with roofed collonades, a Tibetan Mastiff kept watch from the roof tops, walking easily along a variey of rather steeply pitched roofs!
Guiya that light coloured girl oh maahhhh gerrd 😍😍😍😍 Love this guy's passion and knowledge. Every dog breed should have breed stewards like this guy he's obviously dedicated his life to this breed and kudos to him. Gorgeous dogs.
'Drok' means nomad and 'Kyi' means dog in Tibetan.👍 Omg.... he has Tibetan Spaniel/Apso too. I'm a Tibetan myself and I must say he is a traditionalist too. That neck leash in red colour is a Tibetan style which has spikes inside to protect while fighting. Thanks to such passionate breeder like him that Tibetan Mastiff bloodline is protected otherwise most of the current TM have been genetically modified by Chinese because of TM bubble in China.
It gets the independence from the Chow, and the guardian traits from the Rott, both breeds went into it's creation. I kept the perfect male pup from one of the first breedings, he was bad to the bone.
@@connormills7277 I know it's tough to have someone tell you something that don't fit your beliefs, but I've been in this business since the 70s. We all saw a huge black one in a book, and believed everything we read. But as a rare breed enthusiast, They could not be found. Teams went out all over Asia, and NOT a single one was found. The first notable Tibetan Mastiff was on the movie Mans Best Friend, just look at that dog! He is Rotty mix. Many of the first were Rot and St Bernard mixes, then would add Chow at times. Great video! I like the fact that you present a lot of key facts about this amazing dog breed in a straightforward way without "special effects" and other fancy video tricks. Thank you!

Richard Eichhorn thank you for taking the time to make this great video. Very informative. So much information here I watched it twice. I have been researching the breed and came across your website and now this documentary.
It was an honor to be asked by the filmmaker, and to be able to answer his thoughtful questions about the breed. The goal is to find the right owners and homes for these dogs.
I've raised a TM across the street. He's 14 months old now. Very gentle giant, friendly with all dogs and likes to sniff people. He has had ear fungus and infections in his ears since my neighbor got him so if people reach to pet his head he recoils. He's honestly the sweetest and most docile guy out there. Not vicious at all. People who keep them out all day and don't socialize them make them have the fake identity of vicious guardians.
I socialized mine a tonne, dog park 2-3 times a week. Daily walks, hikes. Didn't matter she's a guardian thru and thru, at home she alerts us Everytime someone goes by the house and she won't let anyone or anything near the property. Off property she's docile, gentle and loving, totally different animal when she's not in guard mode.
Amazing you actually got an interview with this guy. I was a total dog nerd growing up.. researched on many of these rare breeds. I remember seeing his kennel name mentioned in some books and in the back of Dog Fancy (early 90's) .. long before everyone started realizing how fantastic the TM really is. The TM was one of my top "holy grail" breeds and honestly still is. Very good documentary. Excellent breeder 😉
Haha gosh wish I could. Live in Ohio and on a budget to make ends meet but.. wow ..thanks for the offer 😉 wouldn't mind giving that tri color pup a kiss or 2
An interesting video. Although this is not a breed that I anticipate ever owning, I've admired them as a primary form of mastiff, probably the progenitor of all mastiff breeds, for many years. Just a few days ago a man arrived at our local dog park with two magnificent Tibetan Mastiffs---one gold, one black and tan---and they were quite impressive.
WOW, does everyone believe this stupid MYTH!!! I helped make this breed in the 80's. Their was a book, ''The world of Fighting Dogs'' which first spoke of the breed, but had a fake TM picture which looked cool, but was not a TM. NO TM WAS EVER FOUND IN TIBET, NOT EVEN IN THE FOSSIL RECORD. I have been studying where Mastiffs came from, and found the Phoenicians imported them to Europe 3000 years ago. I believe maybe the instinct Borophagus from the US is to origin of all mastiffs. The Italian Mastiffs are the oldest, Cane Corso being the oldest of the two. And if you look at a skull from an Italian Mastiff and compare to Borophagus they are sooo similar, and to different from a wolf for the wolf to be their ancestor.
The Tibetan Mastiff has nothing in common with actual mastiff breeds. It’s a misnomer, they aren’t actually mastiffs and European mastiff didn’t descend from them - there‘ve been genetic studies.
GEE He describes my brothers five dogs perfectly. At night they switch on and become guard dogs around the property. The female less so as she guards my brother in the house.
Dogumentary TV To be fair, the video was darker than normal, but I got used to it. Otherwise congrats on great content. For some reason you can't get Ovcharcra (sp?) out of your head.
I´m surprised, that he know so much about the breed, regardless he breed these Tibetian hybrids :(( Makes me very sad, he seems as nice guy who know things. He should by the good guy and breed properly. :( I´m gonna burn some marshmallow to feel better. :( ;(
I remember my dad went to Tibet And bought three of these forever ago. I remember going in the third grade and came home on my first day and there they were. I’m 42 years old now
I've had guardian dogs my entire life but if I tripped and fell in that place, I would simply crap my pants..... Seriously well run facility, knowledgeable breeder. My father worked as an engineer on several projects in outer Mongolia where these dogs are vital for the survival of families. He said he's never been more impressed or terrified. He looked and smiled at a toddler, the 140lb+ dog moved between them and sat down facing my Dad. He got back in the Yurt very quickly.
This was a KOOL Ass video, Tibetan Mastiff is a Kool ass beast. I liked this dog ever since I saw it for the first time back in 1993 when the movie Man's Best friend.
Great video Zeke! Those dogs look really good.....so nice to see breeders like this guy. Personally, I would never own one....not because I don't like them....coz I do like them...but I prefer more trainable dogs, and man....the grooming would be a nightmare.
Thank you soooo much. This documentary by Richard Eichhorn is very helpful. We have a wolf mastiff breed that we mixed with American Eskimo . Our oldest male, Oso, the grandad of them all looked and had the temperament like that of a Tibetan Mastiff. Thanks again, this gave us some more insight on our dogs.
Great doc! Really enjoyed learning about this breed. I have no intention of getting one, lol, but I love dogs in general, so it is fun to watch different people talking about the dog breed they are into. :) Keep the great work up, Dougumentary TV! :) :)
You do such great interviews. I was around this breed back in the late 90's at ARBA shows in So Cal when we were showing Tosas. I remember at one show there was a male that had not been socialized well and was explosive in his kennel when anyone came too close. Left an impression on me, they are formidable dogs. Beautiful as well, I am partial to the black and tan.
This guy knows what he is talking about. This type of dog is common throughout Tibetan Plaeteau, Mongolian Plaeteau, Manchuria and Northern China. The Mandarin name Ao 獒 means big guard dog more than 4 chi in length. The classic coat color is called 鐵包金 Iron Wrapping Gold, meaning dark color with golden patches mixing in, and two small white or blonde circular patches above tbe eyes.
Hi all, I would imagine this breed doesn’t do well in a hot and humid climate like South Florida. Blown away by the level expertise and quality of the videos on the channel.
Excellent documentaries. Well produced and informative. You're doing an excellent job! Now let's see a documentary on American Akitas! Keep up the great work!
I’m considering adopting a male and female mastiff, but not sure how they are with existing male Boxer and two cats. It’s a beautiful breed and I’m trying to learn as much as I can about the breed before taking the plunge. A beautiful, beautiful breed❤️❤️❤️
They are very popular amongst rich people in China who want to show off. Even in Hong Kong is the same thing, they can fetch upwards of HK$ 1 million. Problem is this breed can be aggressive and your average dog owner will not be able to handle this dog given its size. We have had numerous attack cases, not just on other dogs, but actually human beings who have been viciously attacked unprovoked. They are dominant and highly territorial, if you walk past its house and for some reason if the front gate is left open, unless they are leashed, it is almost guaranteed you will be attacked.
Chinese are stupid for over pricing this breed I bought mine for 1 lakh rupees approx $2300 not stupid money like a million. The only trouble I had was begging the guy to sell me a pup. I aint seen another like ours but now switched to Cane Corso
I know that this dog breed developed in "isolation" from other breeds; however, I can't help but see a huge resemblance to the Caucasian Ovtcharka (also known as a Caucasian shepherd). Both breeds have very strong temperaments, are bout the same size, and were bred to be sheep guard dogs in isolation in the cold Caucasian mountains. They also think on their own. There is also a strong physical resemblance between the two breeds. I thought it was an interesting comparison. Any thoughts on this?
Yvette Ugalde you have to think of why each dog breed was developed. If they are used for close to the same purpose as well as close to the same environment then after a certain period of time they are going to resemble each other.
HAHA, this breed was not developed in isolation, it was developed in the 80's in the US by mixing mostly Rotts to Chows, and St Bernards. THIS IS A MYTHICAL BREED. I know I helped make it in the 80's.
dlholmes111 I’ve noticed you posted that more than once here, do you have any records or citations to that effect? It would be interesting indeed if the AKC recognized it as an ancient breed when it was in fact recently invented and the references to it all over the internet and from every single breeder are all fraud.
We are lucky enough to own a Tibetan Spaniel. Also known as a Tibbie. These little dogs worked hand in hand with the Mastiffs. They are very cat like and love to perch on walls and anywhere high. They have keen eyesight and amazing hearing. So they would see incoming trouble first and wake the bigger, often sleeping, Mastiffs that there was malfeasance afoot. Their barking would alert the Mastiffs and the Monks to incoming trouble.

Video is not bright enough, you should work on better brightness. Besides that this series is great, keep up the good work :)
LMAO!
Mirza the brightness is fine maybe turn it up on your device
WinterIsComing no, it's dark. Great video though. But darker than it should be.
Yeah, I agree. not sure why it's so dark
Dogumentary TV To be fair, the video was darker than normal, but I got used to it. Otherwise congrats on great content. For some reason you can't get Ovcharcra (sp?) out of your head.
Thank you very much for producing such a wonderful documentary about this breed. This is exactly what I was looking for in my research!!!
I've been waiting for this video for a long time now I finally got it
Our neighbors have a male tubetian mastiff he's so sweet, he regularly take even our puppy with him during his patrols
I like to see this dogs in their natural habitat...
This man is the perfect storytelling daddy.
Great video! Loved his total knowledge on the breed. Beautiful breed!
daofjudith chipoo
I´m surprised, that he know so much about the breed, regardless he breed these Tibetian hybrids :(( Makes me very sad, he seems as nice guy who know things. He should by the good guy and breed properly. :(
I´m gonna burn some marshmallow to feel better. :( ;(
I like this man it’s nice to see a person who knows what their doing and knows there stuff
give him a break man... Imagine so many dog breeds... Finding reputable breeders.... THEN him being one person, yea alot of work!
Good lookin', I appreciate that bro!
I remember my dad went to Tibet And bought three of these forever ago. I remember going in the third grade and came home on my first day and there they were. I’m 42 years old now
I really like these interviews style ones we're you interview breeders 👍
That's not a dog, that's a Lion!
Tora TAULAPAPA it is oMG

Jim Deeds Gym For The Soul Serj Tankian is that you?
Cheddar323 what?
I've had guardian dogs my entire life but if I tripped and fell in that place, I would simply crap my pants.....
Seriously well run facility, knowledgeable breeder. My father worked as an engineer on several projects in outer Mongolia where these dogs are vital for the survival of families. He said he's never been more impressed or terrified. He looked and smiled at a toddler, the 140lb+ dog moved between them and sat down facing my Dad. He got back in the Yurt very quickly.
China is invading Mongolia and this is sad.
I love Tibetan mastiff female let’s go meet many others dogs was very excited seem a lion she’s so grow up huge hairy!🤗😍😇🥹🐶🥰
Thank you for all the knowledge! I have 2 and learned so much more information from you!
What a fabulously rich informative video. Truly enjoyed watching. Thanks so much!
This guy knows his stuff. He totally described my Tibetan
a 4k dog documentary my life is complete
This was a KOOL Ass video, Tibetan Mastiff is a Kool ass beast. I liked this dog ever since I saw it for the first time back in 1993 when the movie Man's Best friend.
Great video Zeke! Those dogs look really good.....so nice to see breeders like this guy. Personally, I would never own one....not because I don't like them....coz I do like them...but I prefer more trainable dogs, and man....the grooming would be a nightmare.
THE, INDIVIDUAL IS VERY EDUCATED AND INFORMATIVE ON MASTIFF!...It,was enjoyable learning the Specie breed!
You should make one about the Fila Brasileiro
Fred Jason For real, there is like no video of them on YT, just some in 240p type shit
there are several vids of Filas all over youtube
Thank you soooo much. This documentary by Richard Eichhorn is very helpful. We have a wolf mastiff breed that we mixed with American Eskimo . Our oldest male, Oso, the grandad of them all looked and had the temperament like that of a Tibetan Mastiff. Thanks again, this gave us some more insight on our dogs.
Puppies are so beautiful
Great doc! Really enjoyed learning about this breed. I have no intention of getting one, lol, but I love dogs in general, so it is fun to watch different people talking about the dog breed they are into. :) Keep the great work up, Dougumentary TV! :) :)
"Dougumentary" I see what you did there 😂
In our mountains we have for gurding from leopard. We call
Vot-ae kukur in local language.
Adorable, I wanna hug them all..
I showed with ARBA in the 90's, and I remember your Tosa!
They are as fierce as an oversized puffball. So cute!
the dog he traded with in India is the same line of my TM.
Rich Lo you got a good looking dog bro
This guy knows what he is talking about. This type of dog is common throughout Tibetan Plaeteau, Mongolian Plaeteau, Manchuria and Northern China. The Mandarin name Ao 獒 means big guard dog more than 4 chi in length. The classic coat color is called 鐵包金 Iron Wrapping Gold, meaning dark color with golden patches mixing in, and two small white or blonde circular patches above tbe eyes.
nice video he know what he is talking about...also he is rich as they come truse me..good video you can sure learn something.
Glad you enjoyed the dogs and information. These dogs are not for first time owners, and they can keep you in the poor house!
Hi all, I would imagine this breed doesn’t do well in a hot and humid climate like South Florida. Blown away by the level expertise and quality of the videos on the channel.
My dream dog
I love all your videos, I do research on breeds and training in my free time and your videos are so helpful and interesting to watch
What a beautiful and interesting dog 💖
Excellent documentaries. Well produced and informative. You're doing an excellent job! Now let's see a documentary on American Akitas! Keep up the great work!
I’m considering adopting a male and female mastiff, but not sure how they are with existing male Boxer and two cats. It’s a beautiful breed and I’m trying to learn as much as I can about the breed before taking the plunge. A beautiful, beautiful breed❤️❤️❤️
Is it just me, but man this guy gives me the Tiger King vibe?
They are very popular amongst rich people in China who want to show off. Even in Hong Kong is the same thing, they can fetch upwards of HK$ 1 million. Problem is this breed can be aggressive and your average dog owner will not be able to handle this dog given its size. We have had numerous attack cases, not just on other dogs, but actually human beings who have been viciously attacked unprovoked. They are dominant and highly territorial, if you walk past its house and for some reason if the front gate is left open, unless they are leashed, it is almost guaranteed you will be attacked.
Alex Fu True
Chinese are stupid for over pricing this breed I bought mine for 1 lakh rupees approx $2300 not stupid money like a million. The only trouble I had was begging the guy to sell me a pup. I aint seen another like ours but now switched to Cane Corso
its a mutt mixed for size the original dog was very rare and about 70 pounds for a large one.
that is so sad. in a city in such a small space they must get so frustrated and bored. pent up.
this dog is not for city life, it's meant to be in the field country side, I Love it cos it comes from my country Tibet not china.
"You threw it, you go get it!" I swear my dog looks at me the same way, "...you want me to do what?" He's a smart doxy.
ooohh my favorite dog!
We love our black female! Her name is Kali and she is the most protective mastiff I have owned.
yes! I love these longer breeder videos
theyre always the best. so interesting
yes, This kind of dog I want to pet because they are more relaxed and same time they can take care of the business. Amazing video.
Gorgeous dogs. Going on the list
Send me an email for upcoming litter information. drakyitms@aol.com
I couldn't wait to get off work to watch this!
Did you ever get off work?
I know that this dog breed developed in "isolation" from other breeds; however, I can't help but see a huge resemblance to the Caucasian Ovtcharka (also known as a Caucasian shepherd). Both breeds have very strong temperaments, are bout the same size, and were bred to be sheep guard dogs in isolation in the cold Caucasian mountains. They also think on their own.
There is also a strong physical resemblance between the two breeds. I thought it was an interesting comparison. Any thoughts on this?
Tibetan Mastiffs are ancestral to the flock guardian breeds, so a natural comparison with the Ovcharkas.
@@dlholmes111 yeah sure.....
. Didnt know the psych ward let their patients have internet lol
Proof or its BS
We are lucky enough to own a Tibetan Spaniel. Also known as a Tibbie. These little dogs worked hand in hand with the Mastiffs. They are very cat like and love to perch on walls and anywhere high. They have keen eyesight and amazing hearing. So they would see incoming trouble first and wake the bigger, often sleeping, Mastiffs that there was malfeasance afoot. Their barking would alert the Mastiffs and the Monks to incoming trouble.
Nice documentary ... Keep it up
