    BOERBOEL'S OWNER ADVICE:
    Early socialization is highly important. If you miss the first 4 months you will be getting into a trouble. Take your puppy daily to the busiest, croudest, loudest places in your area. Play with your puppy and make everything looks normal. Every move (bikes, rollerblades, runners) and sound (drill, chainsaw, hammer) should be normal. Let strangers and especially kids to touch your dog. Don't worry for its instincts. These dogs are highly protective and won't let anyone to hurt you no matter what. If you can not afford a professional training make sure you socialise your dog properly. Introduce your dog to the world and the world to it. If you let your puppy play with other dogs you will not have problems. These dogs are highly intelligent but also highly independent and stubborn. Make sure you always have some treats with you when giving commands. Always walk your dog on a leash and never never let your dog to take any decisions. If you never had a dog before PLEASE DO NOT BUY A BOERBOEL. If you had a dog before please learn more about dogs behaviours. Don't let your puppy trick you. Once you succssed you will have the best companion and devoted friend forever.

    Maybe I have the worst Boerboel according to the woman. My Boerboel lives in an apartment, goes to the dog park, loves cats, hates exercising, doesn't drool unless she's wanting food or watching you eat food, doesn't tear up the house at all, sleeps all day like a cat, she can be trusted to stay alone in the house, doesn't use her crate anymore except to eat to contain the mess, is fine with whomever comes in the house, and isn't really a true velcro dog. I think my Boerboel is broken and I may need to get another one. Lmao.
    My Boerboel is protective and thinks she's on guard all night. She knows when the kids aren't feeling well and will lay with them all night like she did the youngest who was running a fever 2 nights ago. She is aloof with strangers no matter how much she's been socialized. Lol. If you walk through the front door she thinks you're ok; however, if she sees you through the window... she let's you know she's watching you. Lol.

    I have a Boerbull and will never be without one. My current dog is the third that I've had, and she gets on fabulously with my three other dogs. She and I weigh about the same at about 66 kg and she has a great temperament. All my dogs sleep indoors. We have had criminals who poison dogs as a prelude to home invasions, and I ensure that they are safe at all times. At 77 years of age I might be coming to the end of my Boerbull ownership period, because of the power that they generate, but she is easy to control so we are both in a good place. Communication with your Boerbull is very important, so you must learn to read the signs that they give you. Fortunately we understand each other very well. Training, is of course, absolutely necessary. I do not take her to the level that we did with police training, but I ensure that she is fully equipped with discipline required for family and visitors. They are not destructive in the home, but 'things' can come to grief accidentally. My dog has had her tail docked as a puppy, so she does not accidentally sweep anything from surfaces at her height level.

    As I read the comments, a few things should be noted about Boerboels and dogs in general. Remember that your dog is a reflection of you. If it is not acting right, that is on you, not the dog. No matter the dog breed, if you don't train the dog, you won't be happy nor will the dog. Yes, there is always elitism with breeders about first time dog owners. Why? Because they've had dogs returned by people who didn't train them, thought they were cute as puppies but then grow up and are untrained. My family raised and bred Dobermans for 20 years. I currently have a Boerboel, a Bull Mastiff and Staffordshire (pit bull). My female Boerboel is extremely smart, stubborn, high maintenance, dominant, bossy, and demanding. She takes a lot of effort to keep her progressing because you cannot let her have her way. She is also extremely affectionate and protective. Would she be good for a first time owner? Depends on the owner, but in general, no. My male Bull Mastiff is quite possibly the sweetest dog I've ever had. He doesn't have mean bone in his body. But he is 135lbs. and can knock you over without trying. Would he be good for a first time owner? Yes, if they could deal with his size and expenses. Big dogs aren't cheap. My pitbull is an amazing dog, I've never seen a dog so good around kids in my life. He's a rescue too. Would he be good for a first time owner? He'd be the best of the three. It's about the dog IMO, not the breed for the most part. If you can't spend an hour a day giving your dog the attention and training it needs, you probably shouldn't have one. That won't be popular, but you shortchange yourself and the dog if you don't put the time in.

    Boerboels are the most amazing dogs you can ever have. I've got my second rescue and they are the most beautiful natured dogs you can ever have. They are misinterpreted in attacking....but that only applies to cruel owners who chain them up and expect them to be guard dogs!!! They have to be part of your home. They are family. 😍😍

    I had a big 300 pounds one that was raised with my baby son, both babies playing together, very smart, best family dog ever, he was the pack leader when i had nieces and nephews with my kids, used to pull a wheel sleight, no barking, needed 5 hours of exercises a day, running backyard plus long walk. Very protective, need clear orders, boundaries, have to be socialize. My son used to ride on his back. He was 6 feet high on back legs! I miss him so much.

      When walking with all the kids every 10 feet he d stopped and check all the kids to be sure they were all behind him and none missing, idem when pulling a kid sleight, he d check every so often that my son sitting straight in middle, he d stop when my 2 years old would bend sideway or else, that dog loved to play water game, my son used to shoot him, he just loved it so much. He was a big baby! Was fed by fork by my son age 4, the dog never ate in a bowl again was waiting for Fork. They are extremely smart, once they are use to some habits, it s done.

    My Boerboel is a 2 year old female. She is the definition of a Velcro dog, and she is definitely my dog and I am her leader. She loves the people in our family and her Great Pyrenees/Blue tick Coonhound brother, Otis, but she is standoffish around strangers. We have taken her everywhere with us since we got her at 8 weeks, and she just isn’t super friendly. Olive is definitely different from the English Mastiff we had, but I wouldn’t trade her for anything.

    • @cozierfinessgod5901
      @cozierfinessgod5901 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My opinion on why these dogs smaller
      I’ve owned Boerboels for 7 years
      And I noticed not all of the boerboels are big huge like that. Not all of them were design to guard off lions. But smaller game like coyote fox or smaller wild pigs. Some come out big boys 200+lbs and small 90-110 lbs so I think it depends on how they were built if you got big thick parents puppies gonna be big thick
      If you got Huge boy 200lbs and female who’s standard 110lbs you get best of both worlds
      He dogs look like boerboels
      But their tail are not docked either

    This is a good video but i just wanted to correct some errors. I have never found any historical information from Africa that states boerboels were used to guard the diamond mines. It seems what happened was people that live here in America have confused boerboels with the bull mastiff. Seemingly out of thin air people from America started adding, "used to guard diamond mines" to the boerboel history. Here are the facts that are documented. In 1928, the diamond mining company De beers imported bullmastiffs to watch over the mines. This was the first documented case (i could find) of a specific dog breed being used to guard the mines. It was sometime after this that the bull mastiff bloodline was added to the boerboel. The boerboel was created for one singular purpose. They were created to watch over the farm and family. For this reason i also disagree with what the video said about children. Boerboels were created to be good with children. Its in their genes. Now if someone can find an african sourced document that shows boerboels were used to guard the diamond mines please share. I just have never found one.

    If you like the look of the dog and are looking for a dog a lot less agressive but rather cuddly and loyal then get a Bullmastiff. You can also get a bullmastiff as a first time dog since they are naturally kind. This is coming from a owner who has had 4 Bullmastiffs
