    The List, is Dogumentary TV's community generated ranking of the top mastiff dog breeds. From a sampling of over 100 Dogumenatry TV subscribers, I compiled this list. Many of you know that Dogumentary TV is into the big dogs. So I thought what better breed to feature in the pilot episode of THE LIST. Many mastiff breeds were nominated but only ten made your final list. Some notable breeds that didn't make it were the Tosa Inu, Saint Bernard, and Newfoundland.

    My English mastiff lived until 4 days before her 13th birthday. She was brindle, 150lbs at her heaviest, 125lbs at her lightest. We lost her to cancer, but I remember our vet said that she lived as long as she did because we loved her so much. I like to believe he was right. It's been almost 10 years and I will always have a place in my heart for her. I love you Dasha ❤

      I lost my mouse to due to cancer as well, I woke up one morning and saw like an egg shape size under his eye, within two weeks I had to put them down, I had him for almost 9 years, it’s been two years now and I still have not gotten over it, I am now at the point where I would like to get another one, I have lots of love to go around, I’m just not sure what breed I would like, I don’t think I want to purebred, because it seems like they have so many problems as far as the Purebreed goes, my mastiff was probably 75% mastiff and 25% who knows what.

    True story.
    Just moved into my house about a month ago. I'm in the back room and my Cane Corso gets up and jogs to the front door and peers out the side window. It's about the time the bus drops off kids across the street so I don't think much of it. Then I hear the growl. I get up and peek out peep hole and it's an ADT salesman. I crack the door and say what's up and he starts his speel and 2 sentences in I say I'm not interested. Of course he's trained to follow up with "why wouldn't you want your house monitored?" I opened the door just a little bit wider and just as I did my boy let out a bark that made the guy almost shit himself. I said "cuz as you can see I already got a 125lb monitoring system!" Nuff said dude was gone. 😆

    I have been breeding and training Cane Corsos since 2007, my wife was the owner of Marvell Boerboels in South Africa. I would like to say that the life expectancy of each breed is very much based on the dogs diet. Research shows that dogs fed a species appropriate raw diet will live considerably longer than bag fed dogs. We feed our dogs 80% muscle meat, 10% internal organs and 10% bone.

    I totally agree on the video. Did a lot of research before chosing a Cane Corso as a family and home protector and it was the best choice I could have made. The nicest dog in the world, especially towards children, but mean as hell if necessary. She got attacked by a pitbull some months ago and shredded him to pieces, nearly killed him. She never starts fights, but now we know how she ends them if forced to. Absolute powerhouse with a heart of gold.

      Maybe the American Mastiffs.... they are longer lived up to 12 years. They are less bulky and droopy and have tighter eyes, skin, and mouths; longer snouts, easier breathing, Less open mouth breathing (fewer farts) less drooling and mess after eating & drinking because of the tighter lips and they are less jowly.
      They are bred with a small percent of Anatolian shepherd dog for longer life and fewer health problems. They are mostly like the English Mastiff but with a little more of a sharp edge. Their protectiveness is up a notch but they are not aggressive; they are very sociable, nice to everyone - just a little more wary. A little slower to sidle up or cuddle with someone new but they're not going to lurch out and bite somebody.

I got her from a breeder in Italy and she was a guard dog from the day I got her that's her instincts are so strong with no guard dog training . They're also very good at sensing,or actually smelling, people's emotions, like adrenaline, so if you're tense or nervous about something your corso will be extra alert. Not a good thing if you are a person with anxiety or then gets an easy or startled easily and there's your dog will go into protection mode. Also Corso's are the last of the coursing Mastiffs. Bass and green and used to be a sport to let them run down small or large animals and kill them. She's great with my two cats they sleep together and when I brought the new puppy home she was awesome. But she would literally kill another animal given the chance if it came near me or my house. I'm not sure if that is something that dogs over here I still have in them or not but I see you're not very dog friendly and has strong pray Drive .I also a first-time bullmastiff owner. He is just over a year old now and I couldn't be happier with my decision to get a bull mastiff

    Excellent video. Definitely thumbs'd it up and Sub'd way back when. Mad respect for all your hard work and efforts. The list of breeds is on point. Just wondering if anybody else has noticed breeders are starting to shorten the muzzle on so many different breeds. Assuming they are after the square appearance. Watching this video allows you to notice that. Breeds like Dogue de Bordeaux and the Bullmastiff have almost evolved into super sized pugs / Frenchie.. The Corso is also being messed with. I have two of them with the normal length muzzle and they don't have the crease between the eye and the muzzle. I've noticed many on the street with droopy eye syndrome because of the shortened muzzle.
    What are your thoughts Big Z..

      The Rottweiler is one of the oldest of herding breeds.[8] With a history possibly dating back to the Roman Empire,[9] the Rottweiler may be a descendant of ancient Roman drover dogs; a mastiff-type dog that was a dependable, rugged dog with great intelligence and guarding instincts. During their quest to conquer Europe, the Roman legions traveled in large numbers across the continent.

    I have a 3 yr old Boerboel/Dogo/Kangal/Dane hybrid (over 60% Boerboel) male that stands about 30 in at the shoulder and weighs in around 150. Moves like a cat and covers ground faster than a Doberman. Best guard dog ive ever had. We had a man walking too close to our daughters bedroom window late at night about 2 months ago and he didn't bark or growl, just hit him full force and even though he only had him for less than 5 seconds had his arm and side needing stitches. 1 in a thousand dogs have the backbone to take down a man (especially 6 ft or taller and over 200 pounds) but only 1 in 10,000 would do it without training. These dogs arent jokes. They are serious animals and should be taken seriously. On the other side of the coin though, he loves my family, our cats, our 2 little dogs, and has to sleep with his head on my chest. Great dogs!

      Pleaaasse do your research on the breeder!! The breeder and genetics of a dog makes ALL the difference as many popular breeds have mental disorders and no amount of training can fix that. Also, find a group of owners in your area that meet up regularly. Its cheap training and information on food allergies, certain behavior and health issues. Make sure the breeder is reputable and works/shows the dogs for confirmation to prove that the lines are healthy and sound in body and mind.

    • @clarissaparker-ngowakl6778
      @clarissaparker-ngowakl6778 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Oh, let me clarify, many popular breeds have been over-bred for a quick buck and certain "backyard" or unqualified breeders don't know how to, or don't have the proper resources, or don't care to filter out certain genetic defaults like epilepsy, bi-polar, and other things. just be careful!!

    Small info on the Tibetan Mastiffs ( Its a Landrace That originated in the Tibetan Himalayas and can be found in Mongolia where it’s called Mongol Bnaghkar to Nepal and north India where the name is Bhote Kukur/Bhotia Dog. The Tibetan Specimens are more Human aggressiv than the mainly used as flock Guardian type ( like the Great Pyrenees Maremano)In Nepal and Northern India . The original Tibetan Name is Do khyi which means “ Tied Dog “ in Tibetan . Do khyi /TMs are usually Tied around Villages or Nomadic Tents/Farm houses and Let loose at Night to defend against Thieves and Predators such as Snow leopards and Wolves being the main threat along with Bears and back in the day Tigers. A deep Broad Chest and Big Head with a Deep Bark is required and liked by the natives along with a ferocious temperament which has been Breed lower in Westernized lines specially American . The TMs In Europe specially east Europe often still have that temperament

      You're right about them being the guardians in mountains of North India. On my many trips to the state of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand I've seen many Bhotia dogs (aka Gaddi dogs). They're well built and good for protecting against leopards and small bears. Although not always do they succeed in fending off the predators but at least sound the alarm. Just a few weeks ago my cousin told.me about one of his trips to one such place. There the guy had a wide, thick iron collar around his dog at night. It was actually to prevent tigers from killing the dog as the big cats go straight for the neck first. Still, sometimes the tigers would anyway succeed by tearing apart the guts of dogs.
