When he screamed “katniss Help me!” I felt that feeling of betrayed and hopeless feeling...finnick deserve better,he helped others and didn’t think of his life.
No, he wanted Katniss to end his life. That's why he yelled "Katniss help me!" He knew that he wouldn't survive at that moment. He wanted help to die quickly and he got that help.

Why do people like gale? To be honest, he’s a dead beat. He does nothing. All he really does is hit on katniss and then gets mad when she rejects him. Also he got pissed at her when she didn’t kill him, killed coin, and went insane? So then he abandoned her to rot in 12? He legit makes no sense, Collins should have had gale sacrifice himself for finnick.

I think that gale was a big part of Katnisses story and that he can be emotionally cold after all that he has been through . Yet I never really liked him I thought that he was kinda playing with Katnisses emotions . And that he was very selfish in mockingJay... Anyway that is just my opinion
Then I don't think you understand gale properly, he too has been through quite a lot of misery himself. His father was blown apart in the mines, he had to become the breadwinner for his family at a young age. He saw the same aspects in katniss' life and fell for her. Later when Katniss went to the arena, he had to work twice as hard to feed both his as well as the Everdeen family and work in the mines 12 HOURS A DAY! It was his will to help district 12 that kept Katniss from running away in the woods and helped the rebellion. He also saved over 900 people from district 12. Gradually, the war changed him. He was fed up with people who supported the Capitol like district 2 and Peeta. This aspect completely warped him and changed him as a person.
He was the most realistic character in the books and if you fail to see that it means that you haven't understood the character or the story apart from the romance.
How could Collins keep Gale alive but not Finnick??!

Finnick deserved better. He survived his first hunger games. He was sold into prostitution. He watched his closest friend that felt like a family member die.He survived his second hunger games. He joined the rebellion. He got married, and he was about to have a child. :(

She isn't insane. She is severely traumatized. The games destroy people. Mentally and Physically. It breaks my soul a little bit when people say Annie is insane. She's not. She is traumatized.

But in all honesty, Finnick has the saddest storyline in the Hunger Games.
Both Finnick and Haymitch since they both dealt with tremendous suffering.
Harrison Ogden but she still had Peeta in the end. I think Haymitch’s story is more tragic because he lost more than Katniss. He lost his entire family, all of District 12 (same as Katniss), a lot of his past friends, and all the tributes from District 12 from the 51st to 73rd Hunger Games.
Harrison Ogden that’s fair, but honestly, before the 74th Hunger Games, Haymitch had no one and was forced to relegate to excessive drinking.
Harrison Ogden let’s just both agree that both of their lives sucked, and living in Panem would have sucked.

It's disgusting that Finnick was sold off for sex, but he was clever despite the trauma. When he saw Katniss, an innocent girl of similar age to him when he was sold off. I thought it was excellent writing to show Finnick becoming a role-model of sorts to Katniss and Peeta, breaking the hearts of many when he died.

There should be a mini-series about the Hunger Games Victors. Each victor having an episode centered around them. My favourite character. A guy who looks out for everyone, even an insane girl. A good example of male sexual abuse. He was just amazing and amazingly written. Really pissed he had to die.

This is actually a very good point. Not often do we see a portrayal of sexually abused men and what that does to them, as people. Finnick was a great example of someone who understood how to care for others, due to having been taken advantage of in this way. I am both sad and glad that I know real men, who display these traits for the same reason. He could see beyond the perceived flaws of those he cared for, because he knew what flawed people really looked like.

During my sophmore English class, I slammed the mockingjay book on my desk when I read the part where Finnick dies. It scared the hell out of everyone because it was during silent reading time.
My English teacher didnt get mad because she had an idea of why I slammed my book since she was almost done reading Mockingjay.

Finnick’s death angered me more than any other death in this series, especially when you found out that Annie was pregnant.
I feel like Sam Claflin was such a successful cast (although most characters were imo). I’ve never heard of him before this movie, but when I watched it in theatres it made total sense. The looks, the manners, the charisma. He understood his character spot on, no wonder why even people who never read the books, got so sad when he died.
In my dreams he survived. I truly think he is the one tribute who deserved his freedom the most.
I find his story to be even more tragic than Katniss’, honestly.

Finding out Mags was the winner of the 11th hunger games is crazy, I was hoping that she was gonna be in The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. She wasn’t because it took place one year before ugh. I would love to know Mags’ story 😩
She should have had Gale sacrifice himself for Finnick after seeing how much Finnick means to Katniss and Annie. Remember, Gale lost his father at a young age. I think that it's within his range to sacrifice himself so a child won't lose his father, and a wife won't lose her husband. He also cares for Katniss, and I think that isn't shown enough. (Don't get me wrong, I'm 110% team Peeta, but a lot of Mockingjay makes Gale into a rather terrible person). I think it would have been incredibly moving and sad if Gale had run back, pulled Finnick out, and died in his place. To satisfy Collins' urge to hurt Finnick, perhaps he could have lost something (a leg, like Peeta, perhaps), but he shouldn't have died. Katniss wouldn't have ended up hating Gale, and she wouldn't have blamed him for Prim's death, either.
tl;dr: Gale knows first hand what it's like to grow up without a father, and to see a wife without her husband, and I think he would have been content sacrificing himself to prevent that (and because Finnick meant a lot to Katniss).
I would’ve pushed gale in and got Finnick up he literally saved EVERYONE and they just leave it makes me so madddddddd I understand they had to leave but STILL

Yeah, I kind of agree, but we must remember that Gale is not a selfless person. He grew up providing for his family and himself, and I think because of this his survival instinct was very strong, and his main goal was to stay alive by any means. I don't hate him for this, he can't be expected to sacrifice himself for someone he barely knows, since all his life he just wanted to survive the extreme conditions of district 12.
i made a non-public fan movie script that basically switches the places of katniss and peeta in mockingjay (which was pretty hard not to make plotholes with). one of the reasons i made it is to spare finnick and prim. peeta saves finnick in the sewers, while gale is the one who kills himself in the second round explosion to save prim. mockingjay is a good book, but the ending should have been writen better imo

The craziest thing was I’m sure he was abused by both men and women in the Capitol, it’s not denied or implied, but most likely Snow wasn’t picky about who he sold Finnick to as long as they paid a “fair” price. Poor Finnick was emasculated and degraded; got a reprieve escaping to 13 where he could finally be with Annie, only for him to be killed in a dark tunnel as his life flashed before his eyes. I would love a book about his games, him navigating the Capitol after winning, and how he fell in love with Annie.

Finnick’s death was one of most emotional parts of the last book. During the battle in the book, I knew someone would have to die, and it was so hard watching him die, I almost stopped reading, but I decided to continue to see what would happen to Annie and their child 😭

This is soooooo underrated!
I always imagine that Finnick saw himself in Katniss, and he did not want her abused by the Capitol like he was. Hence he stepped in whenever he could to protect her like a brother and give her a shoulder like a friend. Of course, he did a lot of the things he did for her in the beginning because of her being the Mockingjay, but eventually they built a friendship from similar tragedies and experiences and I feel his self sacrifice to save the squad must have hurt Katniss the most out of all the deaths.
I think that is very true because in the book he risked his own well being for Katniss

@@fiyah__ Her death is more traumatic in the book. Because its in katniss's perspective, she turns suicidal after prim dies, and she became so depressed and unstable. That is, until she gets reunited with peeta. Finnicks death is sad, but in the book, prims death made me cry more than finnick.

Finnick was forced to be sold for prostitution from the exact moment he was of age, and he literally loves and cares for Annie so deeply that he tells EVERYONE about it. Something like that is super hard to talk about even to someone you trust deeply, so Finnick making a full podcast all about it is so brave, he's easily my favorite character in all of The Hunger Games franchise.
At least he got married and saw Anna one time before he died.

When I read the chapter of him being attacked by those beings in such a torturous way i cannot begin to tell you how much I cried for him.
He was kind hearted, always looked out for Katniss’ best interests, was there for her when she needed someone to talk to, didn’t hesitate to save others, his PTSD was overwhelming at times but was amazingly loyal to his friends and to his beloved Annie.
He was so selfless in helping Katniss and Peeta, he deserved so much more in life than what Snow put him through. Rest In Peace precious Finnick. 🙏🏻

When we first met Finnick I thought he was gonna be an antagonist but turned out to be my favorite character. I almost cried when he died.

When I actually saw Finnick for the first time, I instantly love him. I don’t see him as selfish or shallow. I didn’t also love him because of his looks, I don’t find him handsome back then. He’s just like that one friend that when you see them, you feel safe. Like he’s that friend who is supportive, caring, and won’t make you doubt yourself. I just love Finnick 😭❤️

Finnick was my favorite tribute. He cared for all, he sacrificed himself. He should have survived and enjoyed his freedom. He was the best tribute without a doubt. He was the real winner. Him and Annie just got married then he died a tragic death by the capitol. “Remember who the real enemy is”. The enemy is the capitol and he is still alive in us.

Normally you wouldn’t expect characters like Finnick to end this heroic way, they’re either portraying the bad guys, or they’re just too cool to die.
I just had a realisation, I’m not entirely sure who said it but one of the characters said, ‘the hunger games is sick’ and ‘having to watch your favourite tributes die’. Then I thought back to Finnik and it’s really like we are a citizen of panem watching our favourite tribute die in the ‘76th hunger games’. It makes the story more immersive in a sense. (I’m not sure if what I said made sense but yeah).

My headcannon is that Finnick had teenage parents who were reaped for the Hunger Games (50th-52nd) and that they were both mentored by Mags and when they both died she took it upon herself to raise Finnick alone which is why the two of them are very close

Finnick's story is so sad (though let's be honest, I'm pretty sure EVERY characters story is sad in the Hunger Games)! I had no idea he was forced to become a prostitute or that Johanna was raped. Learning these things makes both Snow and the Capitol more monsterstrous than they already were!

When I first watched Catching Fire, I always thought Finnick was such a huge threat. Sam did really well in capturing how threatening Finnick is. I really liked Finnick as the 3rd Quarter Quell went on. There's so much material people can work with for this universe like the 10th Hunger Games (which is a book!), the 50th Hunger games with Haymitch. Twice the amount of tributes sounds interesting and Finnick in the 65th Hunger Games. Not much is known about that HG.

Finnick remains my favorite male character in the Hunger Games. He was truly a hero. Even using the horrible circumstance of being sold into prostitution as a weapon against the Capitol and Snow. His love for Annie touched my heart to no end. I’d love to see a book or movie concentrating on what happened to the children of the Tributes.

Thats the whole theme of the series. The Good never wins. Only stalemates and cycles. You could argue Katniss and Peetas ‘happy ending’ wasnt even happy because the horror and trauma is still there. Nobody won at the end.
