    I just picked up the cheapest base model today. I don't care about the refresh. I've learned that there will always be something "better" down the road. That's how time's arrow works. Make the decision in the now, without speculation or rumination, then enjoy the path the decision puts you on. We can never know how things "might have been"

    So I did my Model 3 test ride in Libertyville and while I loved certain aspects of it, such as the immediate acceleration, excellent audio even with the base system, the high tech screen, the beautiful look of the vehicle and all of functionality. A couple of things kept me from immediately pulling the trigger. 1. Regen brakes - the near constant pressing of the accelerator seems like it could become fatiguing. 2. Tiny side view mirrors - on I-94 it was hard to peer left or right to see what's coming up on you. 3. Difficult to see out of the back window using rearview mirror. 4. Overall complexity of controls. While trying to adjust the mirrors, somehow the audio went to the highest level. I imagine that with a little time, some of these could be overcome. My worry was my wife would panic if she ever had to drive my vehicle for any reason. So I'm holding off as I continue to watch more video reviews on suggestions, etc. One guy said aftermarket wide angle mirrors helped a lot.

    • @JSLReview
      @JSLReview  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Makes total sense. I will say the regen breaking you get used to it and now I personally prefer it, mainly because I almost never am switching between pedals anymore. I think you could turn it off too if you don’t like it.

    • @ChicagoBob123
      @ChicagoBob123 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I got mine from Lisle, IL. I drive everyday on I 80 in the insane East West derby. The Regen I don't use because I click on autopilot and it accelerates and slows down for me. Heck I even let it steer a lot of the time. The side mirrors do seem small so I turn on the cameras and it takes care looking out the back windows as well. The car rocks and the more I drive it the more I love it.
      Besides floor mats get a pillow. It really made the drive a lot more comfortable.

      Man, you hit every nail on the head! I rented a 2023 Model 3 for 3 days. I found exactly the same concerns. 9:10 one of the benefits of getting the old model is it may still have the steering column stalks - one of the biggest rumours is that the stalks have been removed and replaced by buttons on the wheel for both gear / direction selection and turn signals. I think honestly I wouldn't enter a purchase if they don't come with stalks I would have walked away from the brand and looked for something else just around the corner - if they do go down that path I think they will turn off far more potential buyers than they think especially at a time when so many more new options are just about to land.

    I'm currently renting one from Hertz for a week. I've owned fast cars before, but haven't had one for quite awhile. I'm very satisfied with the acceleration, not having any lag is the impressive part. I guess I got the very basic model because I'm not very impressed with the audio. The audio in my 2022 Jeep with 19 speakers definitely sounds better. I surprised that it doesn't seem to have lane change assist or warning. Or maybe I need to learn something. I also got dependent on Android Auto or Apple Carplay. For some reason I thought I'd be able to do that in the Tesla 😀 . The factory navigation isn't bad though.

    I have a question. Does anybody have issues with Model 3 leaning to the right? My car is doing that consistently and they mentioned that the Tesla’s are designed for flat roads and on any other it does that. I have to hold the steering so tight while driving and the Tesla service team has still not able to fix it after 3 visits. I don’t know what do I do. Any help would be appreciated.

    • @AxelSpark
      @AxelSpark 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That seems to be an evasive answer from the mechanics. The car needs to go straight, on flat, straight roads, however it might pull a bit to the right on certain roads, depends.

    Frankly, the looks of the 2023 Model 3 are better in my opinion; that nose is just totally unique, and the new design begins to look like everything else out there. I have taken several over-the-road trips so do appreciate the extra range (especially in West Texas, where there are few chargers). But I completely agree that with a home charger (easy to wire into the circuit box yourself with a pair of $9.00 plug-in breakers from Home Depot and some no. 6 wire), you're good to go for 90% of driving needs.
    By the way: you forgot to mention the best part of no gas stations... no 'roll food' and 'big gulps' and other junk food! Your health gets a big boost!

    For many of the reasons you mention, I am thinking of getting one now rather than waiting for the refresh.
    Of the reasons you listed, one that has a lot a merit with me is the "tried and true" factor rather than rilling the dice on the new changes.
    If it turns out that part of the refresh is to have a Model S style instrument cluster behind the steering wheel, the I will regret buying now.
    I consider the Model 3 not having instumentation in front of my eyeballs to be a serious flaw in the design of the car.

      Excellent aftermarket displays are available for $200-500. They plug into the car and bring over a lot of info from the main screen. I’m thinking about it, but ok with the main screen for now.

    Really the one thing holding me back on buying an electric vehicle is the insane cost of buying a battery replacement. It's at least $15,000. Sure, you're never buying gas or paying for oil changes and it'll likely be at least ten years before you have to do it but that's still an insane price.

      There's an 8 year 100,000 mile warranty on battery and drivetrain. The battery likely will outlast a gas car. Even if in 10 years the battery needs replacement, those batteries I can virtually guarantee will be way cheaper than today's, probably 1/3 the cost.

    The bigger they are the harder they fall. Point is that Teslas are the most talked about cars as they are a new brand and of course different. Plus, every single brand and car has its negatives. I bought the lowest price Y and love it. You are not made to feel you’ve spent £8000 less. It is so fast and the range (half of the range of my diesel car) is just nut an issue with home charging. Love it. But…. The low speed ride quality I absolutely hate. That for me the only neg.

    • @JSLReview

      Yeah the base model Y is quite appealing with its recent price cuts and access to its full ev tax credit. What issue are you experiencing with the low speed ride quality?

    • @JSLReview

      Of course the performance is going to be more feature rich, you’re paying $13k more for it. I’m not suggesting one is “better” than the other, it all comes down to individual use case. For me and what I need, the performance isn’t worth it.

    90%? It depends on were you live 0-60 in the 5 second range is pretty normal these days for anything least bit sporty... Like my 2020 Ecoboost premium mustang that I got for $34k would beat your Telsa off the line and on the track road or Oval because of it's 5.4 secound 0-60 and light weight front end and just being a pony car. And I'm pretty sure any sport trim of any mainstream cars would to... Which where I live most people mostly drive muscle cars or trucks so yeah your beating more like 30% here... And when you do get into the 5 second 0-60 you get that telsa feel as my mustang can do it to... As gravity is gravity so it does not matter your power train... which BEVs don't put all there power down like in theory they can becuase you are limited by modern tires and steel... Which my ecoboost can break the tires loose with Traction control on I've never seen a telsa do the same.
