Good video! I have one in the box that I’ll assemble soon. I purchased it, honestly, to be used with Sparksdr as a multiband WSPR Rx to feed spots back into the wspr DB. But Pete Juliano’s talks on this rig have intrigued me to use it as a transceiver with a qrp input amp. Keep up the good videos… 73 de K4FMH
This is the future of radio. Now we just need some more open source, all mode, 40 mhz to 6 ghz SDR radios that start off at 5W output. If such a thing existed, and could do 5W at 6 meters, and maybe trailed off to 1W at 3ghz, they'll be flying off the shelf.
The Hermes lite is in stock again. I guess they're able to get the Intel FPGA's again. Also the cable modem chip is asbout $40 on Mouser and Digikey. I picked up the full kit from MakerFocus this morning.
Thanks for the look. You should get a hold of Tech Minds and compare note. He has been playing with one for a bit now. I definitely plan on picking one up on their next run.
Hi Ape, At 11:50 you show receiving on 7.272.832 Mhz. There is a signal that frequency sweeps through the band. What is it? I see something like it at my place relatively often. its quite strong and annoying. Is it a chirpsounder? With mine I chased it with my RTL-SDR and it turned out there was another sweep going the opposite direction and the two sweeps converged at 14 Mhz something , I forgot the exact frequency but it was above the 20m ham band.
Hey Michael. I do see that from time to time but have no idea what it is, would like you have done more digging than I have. If I ever figure it out I’ll post a video. Thanks for watching 👍
@@TheSmokinApe I have one video dedicated on this QRM in one of my livestreams where I ask exactly the same question. What is it, what is the cause. The recording I did was in Thailand. I think it is man made and it is maybe some kind of welding machine.... I have these signals coming in very very hard in Thailand, especially when I beam towards China! De ON7OFF
Sounds like a great radio. It seems already a few years old. Are there recent updates, or new designs in the same price-class. Maybe one that also handles V/UHF?
I heard one live few days ago. There was a studio mike and an amplifier used with it. Any idea of what amp is available for such of a low 5 watt input? Thanks.
That's pretty neat too bad they're out of stock on parts. I did get 2 parts from Amazon Amazon for SDR and I'm gonna see what I can do with that maybe sometime today I'll get to go back to where you showed it on TH-cam and find out what programs I have to download to make it go 70 take care good DX
Just got mine going but the transmit signal is not showing in the display like yours is. It is showing on the DSP panel and I can monitor it on another receiver but it's not showing in the green bar like yours. Is there a setting I have missed?
No wrist grounding straps. yet the boards are not in esd static protective bags. Guess not cmos, etc. Hm//my MO is to wrist strap. Informative video. thank you sir. My headphones and speaker are busted1 Gads. I wonder..did you do PureSigbal in this video? Hm...2nd harmonic would be like 50db down as I recall. My Hermes lite II is due next week.
@@TheSmokinApe I was aware of decoder. Tx is harder but it requires synchronizing the time slots. I’m not surprised it’s not available. There’d have to be a OpenSDR-type plugin for SDR applications.
Heck yeah Ape. Glad you enjoyed the radio and were able to make a great informative video about the now impossible to get sdr.
Thanks again for sending it over 👍
It’s now on a group buy with makerfabs if you’re still looking

It would be perfect for that WSPR project. Thanks for checking out the video Frank 👍
Great video Ape, that radio is pretty cool!!i
Thanks Chuck 👍
Nice rig. Nice price!
Thanks for checking it out David 👍

Awesome, good luck with the build 👍
@@TheSmokinApe Thank you. Looking forward to it.
Great video as always Ape. Looks well built and schmick…. I notice you still have those spurs on 40m 😉 Look forward to more from you mate 👍
Yep @ Spurs. Thanks for checking out the video @ Hayden 👍
Back in stock as at March 2023
Get 'em while you can 👍
My order has been placed
It’s about time son!

I saw TM's video back in May (I think), he did a great job. I have a buddy who has been using one for a while and I plan to pick his brain a bit.

As far as I know this is the most recent version, based off the global semiconductor shortage I know they are looking at alternative chipsets.
I think they are back in production at the moment. 73's

Not that I know of, I am going to look around. Thanks for watch K2ICC
Im using a Hardrock 50 amp with mine, works great.
Thank you for a good video!
What is the sensitiv?
Thanks for watching Ken, not sure I understand the question
You’ve already taken it out of the anti static bag? So I assume by the way you are handling it you are wearing an esd wrist strap?
I wasn’t, shame on me 😕
i need to find a video of someone transmitting in AM.

I don't recall a setting for that, sorry man

Well…
@@TheSmokinApe 😄👍
Very interesting that they connected over Ethernet
Yeah, sure is 👍
You are transmitting without having installed the heat sink?
for a few seconds, yes
So where can i go and buy one of these Hermes Lite transceivers
They sell out fast: www.makerfabs.com/hermes-lite-2.html

Do you know of a SDR that can do Digital Mobile Radio
You can use a decoder for DMR receiving, I am not aware of any that with transmit

That would be great if they were actually able to be purchased.
The QDX looks cool, and I look forward to mine, however it is very limited compared to the HL2. 73 de w8tam
Right Dusty
Most likely won't have the same RF power output of the COBRA 200 GTL DX.
