  • Bad design. 1 cent piece of plastic breaks on/off button. Can still be operated, but this thing isn't designed with owner servicing in mind.

Thank you. With out opening and as always losing screws and springs I simply manoeuvered the offending button into a position where I could safely drill a 4 mm hole in the side to control it. Then I used vice grips to destroy it which left me the opening to get to the on off switch as per your image. THEN I could use a cocktail stick to start it. 😃😃

Thanks for this video. We've used our Krups daily for over 10 years(and it was used when we got it!) This is the first failure ever.

The kitchen aid blade coffee grinder
Is nice, i love the removable grinding bowl.

Thanks. Same problem. I noticed that I can still trigger the switch, but wanted to see if I could recover and replace the bottom. Didn't see any screws to disassemble it, so I found your video. Yep, a pencil it is

Thanks for posting. I just found this now as my button broke too. Will watch and learn. Very disappointed that a brand like Krups have something so flimsy.

Thank you for posting this. My button broke off today and fell down into the housing. I take it you recommend not taking it apart because springs will be lost and there is no fix anyway.
Thank you. I do have pencils in the house.

Hi - our button fell in after 3 years - this is still the one of the highest rated grinders in UK so we were keen to repair it (£60 replacement cost) - after checking several very technical videos on YT I found you - thankyou so much - a red plastic cooking spoon is now our switch - it works perfectly and will last for ever....!🥰

my gvx1 had this malfunction. i got it disassembled to troubleshoot in less than 3 minutes. i used a butter knife and it worked well, according to your directions. THANKS!
the plastic button was fatigued, i guess and wouldn't return to the resting position.
    TIP:
i have an oversized pencil and i'll use the erasure end to 'manually' activate my grinder until i can locate an inexpensive button replacement.
saved myself the cost of buying a new grinder. i bet i only used this machine 30 times in the course of owning it for 5 years or so.

Cool and great fix. Anytime beer can is involved I approve. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the video! I fixed my button by making a beer can split and gluing it back together. You instructions were invaluable in being able to re-assemble the unit and it now works better than new!
I put some instructions on harapwhite's blog mentioned above.

Nifty solution - thanks! To add to your wisdom a bodged together plastic widget / tape button has 'fixed' it.

Merci beaucoup pour cet excellent vidéo à propos du bris du bouton. J'ai pris le temps d'écrire à la compagnie pour leur recommander de revoir cette faiblesse du produit. Hope they will accept the feedback and make something out of it... Meanwhile, I will work around the problem with a pencil. Thanks again :-)

Yeah, Krups could have spent 2 pennies more for a better mount for the button. Lame Krups.

The Bodum is great. But I still keep the Krups around for some reason, thinking that I'll create a wooden button for it one of these days.

Mine just went, I’ll 3D print a button or look to solder a better switch in if that fails. Ain’t buying a new one just yet!

Yeah, i would have never opened it up if I knew the trouble involved and that there is no way to "fix" the button.

That freakin' button...used a duck tape diy thing with a paperclip at the end for a while...then got a hand grinder. Now looking for a burr, probably the bodum you got. Hopefully your vid will help others keep their Krups for a little longer...

You can fix the button once you take it apart. Unscrew the mounting for the button and take the button apart. Put two pieces of duct tape over the plastic mounting, sticky sides inwards and facing each other.
Here's and image of the disassembled and taped button:
    drive.google.com/open?id=1B9DnZAcE4MgJzVxqhMsPTKbvQ38UJNTRcQ
    and another reassembled:

Cloth hinges are actually quite common for applications which require precision but I'd try not to be too rough with it. I did mine last week and no problems so far.

Thanks for the video, but it looks like the entire board in my grinder is fried. I had to bypass the entire thing. The motor still grinds beans, but I have no timing function.

+-=tAz=- I just pried the cheap plastic button off with a teaspoon and it works fine. Thanks for the video.
