    Tell me why i had my rear main seal replaced on my eco mustang and i have a leak now that the garage is trying to charge me $450 because the oil pan needs to be resealed. You mechanics can really screw a person over because of a mistake you make and blame the owner of the car so that you guys do not lose money in the process. Some of you guys are really cool and take on the responsibility of your error. I am currently going to take this garage to small claims because Ford even stated that these guys did not do a great job and that they should not be charging me for their mistakes and that a oil pan reseal is not ever a part of a rear main seal job. 5 days without my car sucks

    I got a 350z and it’s got silicone all on it. The previous owner told me that there was a small leak but I haven’t seen any oil leak. I got the part and took it to a shop but they told me they have to take the whole engine out to be able to take off the silicone and replace the rear main seal. I wish I could share a picture but is it worth the time and money for it?

    Question sir..if your car is automatic transmission...and your rear main seal is worn out.what oil will coming out there?is it ATF?or ENGINE OIL?
    Another question: IS IT THE SAME ON REAR CRANKSHAFT OIL SEAL?

    • @LetsDriftMedia
      @LetsDriftMedia  ปีที่แล้ว

      Rear main seal is the rear crank shaft oil seal. So regardless of transmission it would leak engine oil.

    ... i have seen many videos where the plate is NOT removed cleaned up and resealed, just the rear main seal is replaced ... QUESTION --> should the plate ALWAYS be removed cleaned and resealed ... FYI i have a 1999 Honda Accord EX 4 cylinder Sedan and im about to have this work done on my car?

    • @LetsDriftMedia
      @LetsDriftMedia  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it has a removable plate then yes. It’s only a few bolts to remove. If your mechanic doesn’t reseal the plate or replace the gasket after being that far into the job I would stop going to that mechanic.

    • @jcorral2

      @@LetsDriftMedia ... I was thinking the same thing, but what's interesting is I see many videos on TH-cam where only the seal is popped out and replaced , no plate popped out and gaskets replaced and resealed, I'm sure I can Google it but do you know if there's a way for me to find out if my 1999 Honda Accord EX 4 cylinder 4 door sedan has a removable plate?

      Probably around 8 hrs labor if its 2wd. Maybe 13-14 if 4WD. Price depends on shop labor rate.

    So you normally use a wire wheel to remove silicone I noticed? Does it ever damage the surface? I typically use a straight razor

    • @LetsDriftMedia
      @LetsDriftMedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do cause its faster. On things like cast iron you don't really have to worry but you can damage aluminum alot easier with a wire wheel.

    So if you have oil coming from between the engine and the transmission bell housing can you take the oil pan off and redo the rtv gasket then seal it up then clean everything then come back to see if it is still leaking then if it is can you conclude that the problem is the rear main seal? Also I have a 2013 Ford Focus SE, would you have to take off the oil pan as well to replace the rear main seal or can you simply take it off then reinstall a new seal with the oil pan still on the engine? Thanks for reading if you do!

    Toyota service center is quoting 2 grand for this. Is it that hard?

    • @LetsDriftMedia
      @LetsDriftMedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds about right. Depending on the vehicle, keep in mind labor rate is typically 150$ an hr and up at the dealer, plus parts/fluids. Its not hard if you know what you are doing, but if you are not experienced then a job like that would be considered very hard and alot of work.

    Hey im doing a 99 civic ex d16y8. For the rear main seal housing, do i need to use a gasket, gasket plus gasket maker, or just gasket maker?

    • @LetsDriftMedia
      @LetsDriftMedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it comes with a paper gasket you don’t need to use any gasket maker.

    • @michaelMMs
      @michaelMMs 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LetsDriftMedia is the paper gasket good enough? I understand some people just use gasket maker or hondabond instead of the paper. Just want to be sure sure cause one time shot.

    • @LetsDriftMedia
      @LetsDriftMedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaelMMs ive never had a problem with paper gaskets and if you are questioning the gasket doesnt hurt to apply a thin layer of silicone gasket on both sides for extra assurance. I have dont that before when I wasnt sure.
