Not sure if it was a common issue or it was only common with me. I owned from brand new the 2014 F20 118i fitted with the ZF 8Hp. Ended up selling it at 76000kms. Soon as it got to 68k kms started complaining about drive train. I would take it to the dealership as it was still under motorpla, 1st time battery was changed, and all subsequent times they couldn't really find what was wrong with it. Then I learnt a technique I could use wherever I'm stuck with the drive train fault cos it sometimes left me stranded. Until ultimately the technique stopped working for me. Long story short, I then traded it in for a 2017 (LCI) 318i F30 which left me with the same problem cos it basically had the same engine but I managed to drive it up to 105k kms until I sold it for a 2020 G20 320d and I have never been happier owning a BMW. This is by far the best BMW experience, real sheer driving pleasure. I'm at 80k kms now without a single fault. I guess moving forward I'll stick to Diesel engines. So anyone looking to get a BMW, I'd recommend the diesel variants unless you're looking for the performance variants then you can look at the petrols. DISCLAIMER: I love BMW and would choose it any day...
Great video. Appreciate that there are reviews for average South Africans like us who never buy new. Also appreciate that you avoid the Dooms day propaganda that some reviewers push regarding the used car segment for German brands!
Owned my 120 for 7years from new the only major issue has been fuel pump failure. It does require oil top ups but its a reliable fast comfortable daily and fun. Im keeping it indefinitely maybe even pass it on one day.
Imagine if you channel was channeled in this manner ma'am. Very professional here. That's what your channel need. We appreciate dlsepitor but to be international something's gotta give. Great video.
I agree with you, for the first time I actually enjoy watching her present. I hope from now on she sticks to professionalism. It suits her very well 🙌🏽
How to buy a BMW 1 series - don't buy it. Maintenance cost is much higher than that of 1'st edition 1 series hatch back. We had a 2004 model for years, minimal maintenance required. The latest models have turbo, oil separator (have to replace entire rocker cover for this one) , bell housing & weak timing chain issues but to name a few. All which the first series (1 series model) did not have. Not to mention the depreciation in value / price on the BM's. (Sadly as they are actually nice to drive. They loose value (for reasons unknown) like crazy. We really wanted to buy another 1 series, but after doing some decent research we decided to rather opt for something better retains it's value much better and ended up with the lovely new Toyota Corolla Cross. Just my 5 cents on the 1 series topic. 🙃
The reason for the engine vibration is not because small engines vibrate more. Three cylinder engines do vibrate more because of the imbalance. Four cylinder engines have two pistons going up and two down at any time and that gives it more balance. Three cylinder engines have two going up while one goes down and vice versa. A three cylinder engine is not necessarily a small engine.
Not-so-smooth idle is due to the unbalanced nature of a three cylinder engine, not the engine size. There are many examples of smaller 1.2 liter four cylinder engines that idle smoothly.
I am loving this segment ne but can you also include normal everyday cars that other ordinary people would get i.e.. Your Opel Corsa's, Mazda 2's, Kwids, Toyota Etios, Hyundai i10's, Renault Clio's etc...wa bona.
I would definitely get this vehicle in a heart beat!😮😊 However, since i love their bulletproof 320D il only get this in a 120D But ke even this 118 will do but fuel consumption evrything for me👊🏽😛🕺🏾 2018 120d
Well, hear this! I bought a 2024 320i LCI, which is a face lift (supposedly) It didn't have: 1. Leather seats, 2. Reverse camera, 3. Power tailgate, 4. Spare wheel, etc. So I swapped it right away.
Here is the code you use to buy bmw: 1.If fuel type = petrol, then select * where engine capacity >/= 3.0L 2.If fuel type = diesel , then select * where engine capacity >/= 2.0L
It's not that expensive. BMWs are serviced once in 2 years or after +/_24K km. It depends on how you drive it, gently driver (+24K km or 2 years), harsh driver (
Just stay away from the 1series ( or any modern BMW ) or you might end up crying. I know it is tempting to own a BMW and they failry cheap but they are very problematic 2nd hand. It is only good for those who can afford brand new and dont mind spendng money on them. Too long for me to explain why BMWs give issues but just stay away please guys. Dnt listen to those who say just service your BMW and you will be fine because even Toyota's need to be serviced. The problems they give has nothing to do with servicing, it is the way they are designed. The simpler the car's technology the less issues they give ( and more boring the car ). German's cars are over-engineered and planned for obsolescence -that and expensive parts and labour will force you to sell an organ
Yoh guys, so I owned a 2014 for 6 years, only drove up it up to 130 000. Most unreliable car Ive ever owned. Fuel pump, exhaust vanos, stretched timing chain, coolant leak by turbo, numerous oil leaks. Got it under plan but the car literally falls apart after it falls out of plan. Only buy a 125i or up, the small engines are terrible
What a tinderbox with a prestigious badge. Get yourself a Lexus UX, more power, better materials, better build quality, cheaper, more room. and better value!.. unless all you want is the badge, then I can't help you.
Am just here to leave a comment. Supporting local TH-cam is the right thing to do. Ndaa
ndima dekwana!! 😂😂😂😂
It’s the truth caaw
I mean, the channel is also very good local or not, but yes agree with the sentiment
Proper stuff
Finally, a segment that speaks to the average South African vehicle consumer and is well presented.

This is literally my car. 2015 118i manual. Love it dearly.
Thank you for your awesome comprehensive buyers guide with things to look out for. Best video yet.
The review was well done and this segment is just what has been missing in the South African car review space. Great choice on the presenter as well.
This is a bachelor's car, the backseat is for children😅
Also it looks good in Orange
After all these years its amazing that BMW never sorted lack of rear leg room

Would have loved to see cost of service also. But great vid!
She is here to stay
I owned this car for 5 years. Traded it in with no issues at all. Whoever bought it has no issues I am sure…
The reason for the engine vibration is not because small engines vibrate more. Three cylinder engines do vibrate more because of the imbalance. Four cylinder engines have two pistons going up and two down at any time and that gives it more balance. Three cylinder engines have two going up while one goes down and vice versa. That rear wheel drive is a drifter's ideal car

Well, hear this!
I bought a 2024 320i LCI, which is a face lift (supposedly)
It didn't have:
1. Leather seats,
2. Reverse camera,
3. Power tailgate,
4. Spare wheel, etc.
So I swapped it right away.
2024 LCI? 💀💀💀😳 which one is that one
How do you buy a car without looking at it.
Don't come lie here lmao.
Here is the code you use to buy bmw:
1.If fuel type = petrol, then select * where engine capacity >/= 3.0L
2.If fuel type = diesel , then select * where engine capacity >/= 2.0L
How many takes did that intro take… beautifully done. 😎
let her do her intro!!!!!
We here for the cars mate..
Replacement parts prices are not bad for a BMW, only the rear breaks I find pricey...😂
I would buy that e39 back there but if it's a 540
Super helpful
Uyasazi istory sakho around cars ntombazana🤞👌👌
Nice car but if i'm going to buy a bmw hatch...it has to be a 135i
Nice review
I'm strong but not enough to own a BMW again..... nice to look at but stressing to have, just like your ex.
Just service your car
Believe me I did, but buying a pre owned performance car in S.A is too much risky because you don't even know how well it was taken care of.
9k- is not that bad ☺️☺️☺️
Kindly do how to buy used audi A5

bmw doesn't make a 1 sries that accomodate people in the back ...from the first generation till now... ..its better to get a 2 series sedan ..
