i have a 2014 1 series just like yours. I have been servicing it at an auto shop for the past 2 years. Now after this i am atleast abit more clued up on what to do. I have start changing y own oil from now and filters. that is a job i can save an expense on. anything else ill just take it in. Thank you for an informative video. Great calm steps and well detailed and i can actuallly see what youre doing. not rushed. just perfectly explained ! thank you sir !
Good video. Couple of extra steps 1. Open the oil cap when draining old oil from sump 2. Always use a torque wrench both the drain plug and oil filter cap are 25nm 3. It is easier and better to place the new oil filter in the housing using the locating pin on the filter first then screw the cap in.
I was just about to say all this. the only thing I would say. if the oil filter housing is on the top of the engine like this open it and let it' it drain back into the sump.
13:54 you are cleaning the air filter box with a rag. Take it out instead and wash it. It is only held in on 2 sliders and easily relocates. Nice video.
Useful video dude ..... hope the designers at Vauxhall watch this and see where a oil filter should be located !!😅 Confident to do this to my bm now and not pay a small fortune at a garage for relatively simple procedures cheers 👊
thanks for the video my friend, very clean and proper instructions with calm voice and good steps to follow easy :D looking forward to my next service (so happy) haha
Are BMW’s worth getting only every time I say about getting a series 1 people always say steer clear clear of any BMW because they’re always breaking down or having trouble
Just curious, after you replaced the drain plug on the bottom why didn’t you pre lube the filter and O rings before inserting the filter back in and then fill the oil reservoir I thought this was “good practice” but I could be wrong. Thanks for the video, very informative.
Thank you for the great explanation...i recently took my car for an 'oil change' ...was surprised when i checked the dipstick 2 weeks later that the colour of the oil was black on the dipstick really wondering whether they changed the oil or not...that is why i better learn to do this myself...
Usually I just take off drain plug then take off filter then I wate like 40 minutes and let it it drain then put drain plug on then the filter and this does perfect for my car runs perfect every time I do my own to on my bmw but instead of going to bmw for oil I'm getting Castrol this time thanks I was hesitant because they say to use original bmw everything it's annoying
Hi mate might be late but you can jack it from the front - directly. There is a round circle on the under tray toward the back marking the jack point. Make sure you use a good trolley jack as a lot of weight, with a flat surface ideally with the rubber pad to avoid damaging the tray. Once up you can use a jack stand either side on the bmw jacking points. You can get two rubber inserts to rest on the top of the stands for better stability and to avoid damaging the plastic.
Hey Paul! You'll find that most cars have pretty much the same way of servicing. I sometimes take a little bit longer with cars and figuring out where the oil filter and drain plug is etc. Usually TH-cam is a great place when you get stuck!
I changed the oil, the mechanic reset it manually but the oil only gave me 6k km for the next service and below it appears non-executable reset being green, I see cases where this non-executable reset does not allow the service to be carried out, do you know why that is? Since the brake fluid reset is impossible, please help me. Me
i have a 2005 120d, on micksgarage they said i needed 5w-30 so i got that and put it in today, but euro car parts is saying 5w-40... is this bad? i already put the 5w-30 in
It won’t do any damage to the engine. Have a look at which grade your manual recommends. You can always do another oil change in a few thousand miles or so!
Will not make any difference if you live in the UK. 5w40 is really only necessary in a very hot climate, so 5w30 is perfectly fine. The manual will give both options to cover different countries and climates. The most inportant thing is that the oil is fully synthetic and low Ash and is bmw approved. You're looking for BMW LL04 standard on the oil. Once you have this it doesn't matter what make of oil you use as it means that the oil has been blended correctly to meet the manufacturers requirements. Hope this was helpful.
Perhaps the fuel filter, brake pads. I guess it depends on whether it's an interim or major service. You can probably find a few more things to do depending on the service history of your car
I do - I click and collect most orders. I found that Car Parts 4 Less is their subdivision with less overheads, hence the prices are lower. So started ordering from them instead!

I understand. I’d recommend getting a basic one off Amazon, capture the code, and clear the light and seeing if it returns back. You can get one around £30 and return it if you don’t need it. Garages charge upwards of £40-50+ for a basic OBD scan

Are BMW’s worth getting only every time I say about getting a series 1 people always say steer clear clear of any BMW because they’re always breaking down or having trouble
Good question and I hope you get an answer soon from the host 🤔
I’ve owned over 50 cars in my lifetime covering a lot of different makes and models the only ones to leave me on the roadside (2) were BMW.
I would personally put either a carbon activated cabin filter or a bio function version. That one you put
in only filters dust- not smells or gas
Just curious, after you replaced the drain plug on the bottom why didn’t you pre lube the filter and O rings before inserting the filter back in and then fill the oil reservoir
I thought this was “good practice” but I could be wrong.

Yes, he should have lubed the o ring. It seals better when it's lubed up
Yeah!!! And again I didn't see him replacing diesel filter or does this 120(d) not equipped with it🤔
Very good tutorial ! Thank you so much for that vid ! Greetings from France

On a major service should also have done the fuel filter as well just an FYI🙌🏽still a great job though!

Attention! The oil filter MUST BE ALWAYS REMOVED before the oil ! Every one seems to make this mistake !
Hey Bobby. What's the reason for that?
I got into the habit of doing it in this order because there's always a massive oil spill!
@@leong1163 because u release all the pressure and the oil come off naturally

You have to pop de oil cap before draining the oil

At what mileage do you reckon needs to change the gearbox oil. I am driving 116i . Thanks

Why do everywhere I look it says BMW does not have dipsticks anymore? Is this just for the one series ?
