Hi everyone. I am sorry that it took me so long to make another video, but I am back and here to stay. Got a lot of schooling and it was such a hassle. I promise this time I will be more consistent with my uploads. Expect another video to arrive within every two weeks. I miss you all because the connections that I have with you guys means a lot to me. I hope that you enjoy this video and have a great rest of the day. :)
Saiga GeneCast It's good to have you back!! Hope you are doing well! That was a great video and review of the Sega Dreamcast VMU! I missed you, dude but I'm glad you're back! Looking forward to next video! :)
It's good to see you too Dante. I am doing well. How about you? Thanks, I am glad that you liked the video. I want to take the time and sincerely apologize to you because I kept making promises in the past, saying that I will be staying on TH-cam and time and time again I broke those promises. But, this time I am fully committed to be consistent with my TH-cam videos. I missed you too man. Oh, I think you'll like it. It is about another amazing Dreamcast peripheral. :)
Saiga GeneCast You're welcome, I'm doing pretty good myself! Thanks for asking! It's okay, I completely understand and I believe you 100%!! Looking forward to seeing more videos in the future!! 👍👍:)
That's awesome and thank you so much for understanding and believing in me. Yep, I'll try my best to make more great videos for you and the other guys.
Man that’s awesome. Thank you for making this video man. I got a Dreamcast Wednesday, and I always wondered why the VMU had a d-pad and buttons besides being used to set the time. I love portable and console games. So this kills two birds with stone. Can’t wait to get games for it.
Saiga GeneCast Well, don't remember very well, but some were MVC, MVC2, Spider-Man 2k, Army Men Sarge's Heroes, SA, SA2, Crazy Taxi, SoulCalibur, RE3, RE Code Veronica, and others, but those were our childhood. Our uncle got them somewhere.
Crazy that Sega went backwards with the Dreamcast memory card only 128KB with only 100KB available for saves yet the Sega Saturns memory card was 512KB 4x the size what were Sega going to do if the console hadn't died and games required more than 100KB to save the game as the bios couldn't recognise cards bigger than 128KB.
Yes his advice is wrong in the video. VMU's get the regular CR2032 coin cell, the dreamcast clock battery gets a rechargeable coin cell soldered in (or a battery bracket that supports said battery). HUGE difference but they are almost identical. If you mix them up it can leak on your dreamcast mobo and fry it.
Hey, I don’t know if you’ll see this reply, but I had a question. Is it true you can transfer your saved data from Shenmue to Shenmue II? Does it matter which version of the second game you have, as long as it’s for the Dreamcast?
Yes, it is absolutely true! I do it all the time. The easiest way is if you had PAL copy for Shenmue 1, it will automatically transfer to the PAL copy of Shenmue 2. If however you have the American copy of the first game, you will need a special disc to convert the file to a PAL format (I can give you a little tutorial on how to do that if you are interested). Once you have done that, then the European copy of Shenmue 2 will be able to recognize the file and then you are able to continue your Shenmue journey. :) I am not sure if it matters if you use a Japanese copy of Shenmue 2 instead of the European version. Definitely ask Adam Koralik, as he will probably have the answer.
Wow, thank you for the reply. I really appreciate it. I do have the North American version of the first game. I am interested in finding out about the special disc to convert the saved data. I think it would be worth it. By the way, I'm enjoying the content. I'm a subscriber now.
You're very welcome. To make the special disc, I would highly recommend using a old computer in case you accidentally click the wrong links that will give you viruses. Anyways, you need to download 2 programs first: Winrar and IMGBurn. Winrar will allow you to decompress the files and IMGBurn will allow you to burn discs that the Dreamcast can read. Then you need to go the website that I have provided the link for. Link: www.theisozone.com/downloads/dreamcast/homebrew-apps/shenmue-save-converter/ Once you are there, click the download button underneath the description. When that happens, two tabs will open. One of them is a fake that will probably give you viruses and the other one is real. The one where the page says shenfix_beta_1.rar is the correct one. Click the blue download file underneath it and you will be getting the compressed file in no time. Then, the rest is very simple as all you need to do is decompress the file with Winrar and burn it to a CD-R with IMGBurn at the lowest speed and you are all set. :) If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
DO NOT use LIR! They're 3.6V, they should be 3V, the correct ones are ML. You're stressing the hardware with the 1.2V overvoltage from the LIR. Just because it works now doesn't mean that you aren't causing damage to it over time.
How many games are there, where you could you play the mini game to unlock important items or abilities to use in the big console game? I think every game should have had this, and it would have been amazing.
Thanks Has anyone found a hack to make the VMU be frugal with the battery when it's not being used? By the way., does this make the VMU the smallest console? Assuming it's smaller than a Tamagotchi, though that may not be a console. Thank you. God bless, Proverbs 31
Yes I am back. It is always going to power on when it is in the controller, more specifically the screen. However, the Dreamcast controller does not charge the VMU. It needs to have the watch batteries in order for it to turn on when it outside of the controller.
Sorry for the delay in reponse. Turn on your Dreamcast and make sure that you have both VMUs in your Dreamcast controller. When the Dreamcast boots up into the main menu, select files with the VMU icon on top right. Once in there, select the VMU that has your save file. Once you have done that, select the save file that you want to transfer to the other VMU. You will be presented with a couple of options, select copy and the Dreamcast will let you select which VMU you want your save to go to. Select that VMU and your file will be copied. Hope this helps! :)
But I Think You Can Plug Them Together, There's A Plug On The Top Of The VMU And Plug Them Together And Then Somehow You Can Transfer The Save Game/Game
Yes, that's is another way to transfer save files. The problem is that you need to have both VMUs powered by CR 2032 batteries in order to do that. If you do it in the controller and console, you don't need to waste batteries to do virtually the same thing.
Nice find. But I am just wondering, did you ever try these batteries out? Because in my experience, there is always a catch when there are prices like that.
Saiga GeneCast I mean if the rechargeable variant cost a lot like you said, you might as well just buy a four pack of the non-rechargeable variants and just switch it out every time one dies. I heard that it takes a very long time for one of these to die anyway.
I believe that I said in video that the CR 2032 variant was expensive. The LIR 2032 or the rechargeable battery are not that much more expensive than the CR 2032 and are definitely the better investment to get.
Snes was 16 bit and can support many different color palettes. The VMU is 8 bit and can only support two colors, black and white lol. I was just saying that he should give it a try and see if it could be possible.
I like the ending... compared to sega VMU.... Sony's memory card is crap.... the worst and cheapest crap. How many saves can Store in a VMU? Or how much capacity it have?
I wouldn't say that Sony's memory card is crap. It's just that the VMU is so forward thinking that it leaves Sony's memory card in the dust. The VMU can store around 200 blocks of memory, with games usually taking around 20 blocks. On the other hand, the VMU mini games usually occupy most of the 200 blocks.
!!!!!! WARNING !!!! DO NOT use a regular coin cell CR2032 to replace your dreamcast clock battery!!! You can use them in the VMU's but the one inside the dreamcast that keeps the clock time is a RECHARGEABLE CELL!!!!! If you solder a regular CR2032 coin cell in there it will leak/explode and damage/kill your dreamcast motherboard. Make sure you put a rechargable one in the dreamcast and a regular non-rechargeable CR2032 in the VMU. Simple and easy to get wrong so don't feel bad. Please correct it with an annotation in your video or some sort of graphic over the top. I'll make it for you if you want! Hit me up. !!!!! WARNING !!!!!
I was just thinking. There are a lot more failures in video games than there are hits and successes. And its kind of all of our own fault. Sometimes we can be extremely harsh on a game. Like were a bunch of spoiled brats. And I think with the right marketing campaign. We can all be convinced to jump ship on something that has bowed down to us for years and years. I wish Sega could get a 2nd chance to re enter the market. I think they should be a Nintemdo Switch competitor. They would need at least 3 new exclusive game ideas that are super creative in the world's and stories and characters. And then bring back all the classics, be the more edgy nintendo that people crave. Maybe even have one exclusive be a type of game that everyone wishes nintendo would make, but you know for sure that they won't. Us gamers, love our mascots. Crash bandicoot is what stole the spotlight from Sonic. And I dont think the switch to 3d had much to do with it. They marketed very very well. Crash could have been a 2d side scroller and I think us 90s kids would have still loved it. It was the attitude and his expressions, or the ability to express more that made Crash feel like that future concept game we crave. Crash came in with the confidence that he knew, all eyes would be on him from now on. Nobody knew or cared what a Bandicoot was. They just liked crash.

20 years ago...unbelievable I was 13 then playing Sonic Adventure completely blown away by the graphics

:)
We're getting:
A Dreamcast
Red controller
Red VMU
Plus our old DC collection, N A I L E D I T
Nice!
:)
Just curious, what do you have in your DC collection?
Saiga GeneCast Well, don't remember very well, but some were MVC, MVC2, Spider-Man 2k, Army Men Sarge's Heroes, SA, SA2, Crazy Taxi, SoulCalibur, RE3, RE Code Veronica, and others, but those were our childhood. Our uncle got them somewhere.
Nice set of games. Well I hope you managed to find them.
The Visual Memory Unit is my first Dreamcast accessory that I got when I first got the Dreamcast for Christmas in 2000.
Thanks, great video. Saludos desde Medellín Colombia.

Man, I miss the see through plastic on electronics from the 90s. I remember I had a see through crystal Gameboy colour. Nostalgia 😩
7:49 right when he said do you recognize the noise a switch add played and it started with the switch click thing.
I LOVE how the VMU Looks! Good thing i learned how it works since you mentioned it.
I love how it looks too! You're very welcome.
:)
Excellent video man 👍🏻 love the vmu such an under rated device
Thank you !!! I didn't know why my dreamcast clock didn't work... Rechargeable LRI2032 ...ohhhh
(Almost the same as vmu batteries)

Still has features that I would love to see on a game counsel now.
Indeed it does.
love the vmu
What's that intro music?
I got 2 vmu's one is green and another in white
I LOVE this video. you're awesome. I'm subbing.

It has a alarm clock or not?
What jump pack for Dreamcast can you recommend?
VMU to save and load games?

Very expensive battery's ? bro there three bucks on Amazon
Subbed!!
Thanks for the sub.

BEST CONSOLE EVER MADE! :')
Indeed.
I would like to agree
your rumble pack isn't offical dude
Hey, your back to making videos! BTW, can the memory card be powered by the controller?

what are you talking about I literally found a 2$ lithuim ion battery on Amazon
You got a link?
Saiga GeneCast amazon.com

Can it play doom?
Probably not. The resolution size of the VMU screen would make a port of Doom incredibly challenging.
But if you know how to program, be my guest.
:)
Saiga GeneCast You sure that thing can run it though?
well probably i mean the snes could run doom...

That's cool!
I bought a VMU from Ebay, But the batteries are dead...So I'm watching this video.
Cool, hope this video is helpful!

6:03 why are you saying KILL ‘Yourself’, like deducing your sense of Self to those small pixels of a VMU.😂😂
