Our Story:
We are Carissa, Iwan & Frankie the sausage dog, and in 2020 decided one night over a bottle of wine that moving from North Wales to Portugal would be a good idea. Within a month we were on the road to Portugal to find the perfect piece of land to call home. We picked up Albi, Joao and Simao the cats along the way, as well as Diogo the podengo and a flock of chickens.
Subscribe to follow our project as we turn an old stone barn into our home, and learn the ropes of looking after a piece of land to make an abundant garden and one day, our very own winery.
I am suddenly struck by the realisation that one of my favourite elements of these videos is the interaction between the 2 of you. You seem to work so well together, the way you stay calm and patient whilst working under intense factors. Of course I realise that you could edit out the arguments, but overall I get this feeling of gentle care and beautiful partnership. ❤

Technology is making life in extremes comfortable, in places that would have been nearly impossible only a few decades ago.
Have you guys thought of collecting the water off your roof? In Australia majority of the houses do this actually a lot of the councils are making it compulsory. It’ll save you time. Australia 🇦🇺
water tanks are our life blood here, am surprised not many other countries use them
I’m pretty certain they have a drainpipe that goes into the well, if I remember correctly.
We have a pipe that goes into a 1000L tank, the rainwater isn’t drinkable so we need to keep the well isolated.

Always love your videos. They are so calming. You did so well to last as long as you did without a means of getting cooled off. Hopefully the well water upgrade works out ok as you'll soon be pretty much self sufficient. What a wonderful way to live. Thank you for opening the door into your daily lives.

Oh yayyy.. air con! You deserve it! ❤ 30- something degrees is just too much! Enjoy every minute of cool air! (I wish I could be saying I need air con!🙄 Derby UK. Say no more! 🌨 the footage of the storm was ace though! ⚡️) also.. I said it last year.. treat yourselves to an above ground pool. Be such fun to jump in and cool off. For ontop of the Well. 🎉❤
Thank youuuuu, so so so enjoying the cooler air. I think next year a pool might be on the list! The only problem is water management vs algae growth! I'm not so sure about using chlorine so need to make a plan :) the dogs would love it! Hope you get some sunshine soon xx

@FrankieOffGrid yeah, I know chlorine isn't for everyone.. I do use the tablets in a little device, and a filter system(it costs about 1p per day to run it) and honestly, there's zero water problems, the chlorine is a really tiny amount! And it's one pool of water per year! Maby at the end of summer stop the chlorine tablets, let the water turn natural and use it for garden? Xx

Fantastic that you got air conditioning! You work very hard and to me, that is just taking care of yourselves! Hope the UV filter takes care of bacterial issues and you have drinking water on tap by fall!
I am so happy you finally got a split AC system. I have always felt so sorry for you living in that merciless climate. I am in Alabama, USA, and in the Summer temps stay in the 90s to 100 F, and it’s unbearable especially if you are like me and that is spoiled to living in comfort. Unfortunately, I just had to replace two indoor window ACs. Plus, the AC in my car also died. I always thought that the reason you did not have ac was because the large amount of electricity that they use and you use solar. Anyway, God Bless! Be careful about that Clostridium bacteria. It can give you a serious case of food poisoning. It could be that some dog or chicken or other feces managed to get into that beautiful blue well water. I wonder if you would be able to filter and aerate your well water to clean it? Good job!! Wade in Alabama

I like your ways of keeping it simple, the solar power is the best ,even air conditioning!... Yes, the water filtration is a
must did you try hydrogen peroxide in your well, ? And by the way, when do you gone finish the top with concrète? In a fall, I guess? It is a great idea to build with pallets but my advice is reinforce it, with metal studs, and sound proofing, of the roof. This type of roof is noisy when ,it's rain fall .
Wouldn't hydrogen peroxide immediately be dismantled with water, as it is an unstable molecule?🙄

Unbelievable, a hailstorm in July! I say that because we had a July hailstorm here in Colorado, too! And even more surprising the day had started out hot and humid. Just wanted to let you know you're not alone.

Depending on what variety of cauliflowers they are, they may develop a lot faster than Brussels sprouts and purple sprouting broccoli and have to be planted out long before autumn. Keep an eye on them!

MMS is magic mineral supplement , chemical name is chlorine dioxide and it is a disinfectant. It is not toxic, yet some say it is.
To help prolong life of water filter, get a large bucket with a lid, some sort of filter material, cooker carbon filter works well, and some chicken wire.. start by drilling loads of holes in the sides of the bucket, leave top and bottom 3 inches.. next wrap filter material around bucket, followed by chicken wire, then drill hole in lid for hose, put hose through lid, and fit lid to bucket, pool noodle or bike inner tube can be fit around top lip of bucket to float right way up.. no sediment or plants for pump to deal with. love what your doing keep it up..

We have had tons of rain showers here in Dublin Ohio. Which makes me very happy because I don't have to water our gardens. Over in France they are also having rainy. I suppose in Portugal, rain keeps away brush fires.

I have had experience with the reverse osmosis filters and the UV light systems, that should cure your drinking water problems.

I enjoy your videos, I have an old small house in the USA and no AC but added a couple of those air units like you and yes, it makes 36 C and humidity more bearable. I too struggle with well water but acidity has been the biggest issues. I had to ad an acid neutralizer.

Hi guys, I don't like to criticise but I'd be very reluctant to put brasicas in the greenhouse as they will more than likely go leggy and that's not good,try some outside and some inside and judge what happens.
